We’ve got a gentleman that could use a mentor. He’s planning his first LD at Spring Fling. Let me know if you can help and I’ll PM his contact info. He lives in Rock Hill.

Reminder—the deadline to get your entries in for the 75 mile distance this year is March 25.

We enjoy seeing riders who have a new goal at our ride. Whether it will be your first ride, first 50 or 75 or maybe you’re working on getting a decade team award, we’re excited to have you!

What are your goals for this ride?

Thank you riders, volunteers and vets for a wonderful ride this year. Many of you braved crazy weather conditions to get there but like true endurance riders you overcame!

Anyone interested in purchasing hot dog type food on Friday? Beth & Bruce (The Grille at Site 1) can make that happen but would love to have an idea how many to prep for. Potluck still a go, we just know some will be here all day Friday and want a snack.

04/12/2019

Today is the day... to get your entries and deposits in before the late fee applies. Don’t worry though, we’ll still take late entries right up until next Friday.

04/02/2019

We wanted to let you know of a few details. Dinner will be provided to riders on Saturday after the ride. Meal tickets can be purchased in advance for crew/family/friends. The menu is spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert. Friday night supper will be potluck (please bring a dish to share). The ride will provide paper products, tea and water. We hope to have the potluck supper and rider meeting by the fire pit next to the clubhouse if the weather permits. We're looking forward to a great ride!

Happy trails! It’s a lovely day in South Carolina.

There are so many people that help to put on a successful ride. The list is long.

Thank you Kelly Emerson for staying for the duration and doing whatever was asked and seeing things that needed to be done before somebody asked!

Thank you to Robin Heath for being my personal gopher. Robin doesn’t ride but she gives up her weekend to help us crazy horse people.

Thank you Julie Hart for driving a 5 hour round trip to do whatever we needed which happened to be sitting out on the trail and being a spotter in the steady rain on Saturday. Please forgive me Julie!

Thank you Betty Washburn for coming and volunteering Friday and Saturday. She brought the Krispy Kreams. Which were a big hit by the way. She also stayed at the finish line until all the 75’s were in on Friday night.

Thank you Patsy DiLillo Gowen for being on standby Friday and Saturday afternoon if we needed to rescue a horse and rider. She knows the roads well and can drive to trail locations quickly. Fortunately, we only had to rescue a broken down 4-wheeler.

Thank you Carolyn Rierson for taking care of breakfast for us all. I didn’t have to lift a finger. She took care of it all.

Thank you Larry Rierson for working on the trails for weeks prior to the ride, putting out glow sticks, riding trails the 2 nights before the rides putting out helper signs. There were a couple of nights that he and BJ didn’t get any sleep at all.

Thank you Nina Barnett for making all the vets and volunteers fat. She bakes for weeks prior to rides so that we can have Nina cookies, breads, muffins, ham, chicken salad and other goodies.

Thank you Lara and Tim Worden for driving down Saturday to help with pulses on Saturday. We had 90 horses on trail. Because they are so efficient, we couldn’t have gotten the horses through the pulse box any quicker. They rocked it!

Thank you Cheri Ayo Swerbinsky for coming down early and helping me set up the vet check area and helping with the Costco run last week.

Thank you Mayona for scribing all weekend and helping with our injured rider. The rider went to the ER. She’s ok but sounds like she may be having knee surgery soon. Please keep her in your prayers.

Above all thank you riders for coming. We had a great turnout. It makes it all worth it when you all show up and have a good ride!

Duane, Tammy and BJ

Y’all don’t forget Thursday night is a potluck meal around the campfire. What is potluck? We all bring food to share. Bring your chair and a drink too. We will provide the fire pit, paper plates and utensils.

We came around the corner and found this guy...he was just kinda hangin' out. Thought maybe it was Mickey Mouse for a second because it just wiggled a tiny bit in the breeze.
Then I bust out laughing....yup

We tested yellow trail after dark. Had sooooo much fun!

It's not a race but some things make it a memorable ride. This is for the Jr who might miss the "moment" while on trail. This will help to recall all the beautiful things there was no time to absorb while trucking on!
Good Luck, have fun, just ride

Mark and I have donated a trophy for the First Junior rider in the 50.

03/20/2018

When will the pictures be posted??
Calling all Spring Fling 2019 participants!! The PICTURE wait is finally over. I have been off Facebook for some time now and work along with my personal life has been INSANE the past couple of months, so I apologize for the delay. I was able to upload all photos that were featured on the slideshow that was shown during the awards ceremony the Saturday evening after the ride to a google photo album for your viewing. You should be able to download individual photos from the album with no issue - just click the three dots in the right hand corner, click download, and save the image. Please see the following link & feel free to share with whomever: https://photos.app.goo.gl/59Tf1nVUsNz5537w9 If you have any issues, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. Enjoy! *Please note: I am not a professional photographer. I simply enjoy capturing beautiful moments and breathtaking views.
Big Shout Out to everyone who made this ride awesome! It's my favorite ride for many reasons, but mostly because of the wonderful friends and folks who come and support each other ..well...and Nina's cookies!. Special thanks to Tammy Reid, Duane and Nina Barnett, BJ and Larry Rierson, the great vets and all the volunteers. There were so many inspiring stories of riders overcoming obstacles at this ride and seeing the overwhelming support and encouragement for them was heart warming!
An anyone tell me who the photographer was at the 2018 Spring fling ride? Thanks.
What a great weekend at a wonderful ride. First time Penny Markle and I rode red arrow and absolutely love this trail. Amazing amazing ride management Tammy, Duane Nina and BJ. Wonderful volunteers who met everyone with smiles, encouragement, and congratulations. Thank you for an amazing weekend!!
My husband, Donald and I just attended the Spring Fling at the Sand Hills for my husband's first LD ride, and we just want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone that had a part in this event. You can tell there were countless hours put into preparing for this event and it shows. Starting out in a new sport with new people can always be a little intimidating, but everyone we encountered this weekend was beyond friendly and helpful. Very well done, and we look forward to future rides with this amazing group of people!
Good much everyone in the trail tomorrow see you when you finish!!
Will there be a ferrier there? We have a horse with 1 front shoe.
I have an extra horse standing around doing nothing on Fri. if someone wants to ride the LD.
I'm sooooo excited we made the quota for the 75! Whoop whoop! Larry and I have been busy re-marking trails. Replacing old wore - out for new shiny ones...they look so good! They just make ya HAPPY!
This will be my daughter's 1st - 25 mile ride and I keep asking her, "are you ready for the race?" She says to me, "stop calling it a race, let's call it a long trail ride, and yes I'm ready."
Mark and I have donated a trophy for the First Junior rider in the 50.
