Merry Christmas to all our friends and neighbors! We are looking forward to seeing you in the new year! Information for our first Play Day of 2021 will be posted soon! 🎄🎉🎁

Wow! What can I say? I am so honored to be able to serve the community of Leona Valley and all of it's friends and neighbors in this capacity
Horses are my first love and the LV Gymkhana has grown dear to my heart! I'm so thankful that I found my way back to my first love! It has brought so many quality people into my life!
We have some exciting things planned for the upcoming season so please stay tuned!
For the first time, we will be offering an electronic Pre-Registration option for the play-days, along with an electronic payment option. I am hoping that this new technology will make registration a much more stream-lined process for our riders!
Once again, thank you all for allowing me to be of service to you!

I would like to officially announce Belinda Gonzalez Henley as the new Chair for our Leona Valley Gymkhana and Horse Arena!! Although I am sad to leave to head East, I am beyond confident in Belinda and am happy she decided to continue our LV tradition. I know it will be in good hands! Get to know her and read her bio below! 👇🏼
〰️ 〰️ 〰️
Very much like my daughter Shiloh, I was bit with the horse-bug at an early age.

My mother took me to horseback riding lessons at the age of 8 and I learned to ride with the Blue Shadows of Hansen Dam.

Not much longer after that, my parents bought some horse property in Sylmar and bought me my first pony. Her name was Cherokee, and she was a POA (Pony of the Americas). She was a feisty little thing. My parents couldn’t afford to buy me a saddle, so I rode the pony all over the foothills of Sylmar bareback. We also acquired 2 other horses after the pony so that she would have company.

A short time after that, I had a school mate whose parents showed Cutting Horses. He wasn’t interested in horses at all, but when his parents found out that I was, they hired me to exercise their horses.

They taught me to ride using my legs and spurs only as aids to cue the horse to cut cattle.

For a long time after that, horses were not a part of my life, as I grew up and moved out of my parents’ home and they rehomed the horses.

Then I had Shiloh and from the time she was a toddler, she expressed a love for ponies and horses.

For her 4th birthday we had a pony party for her. She and her guests had pony rides at the party. It was so much fun that two weeks later, my husband decided to buy her a pony!

That’s when Ana came into our lives and soon the others followed… Connor, Cali (who is now passed away) Elahi and our newest herd member Charlie.

I have done some Endurance Riding with my horses. My older horse Connor has done 4 endurance rides, two-25-mile rides, a 30- mile ride and a 35-mile ride. He finished in the top ten in all 4 of his rides.

However, I had to retire him because he was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation.

I also have a rescue horse named Elahi, who ended up being a Registered Pure Blood with endurance bloodlines. On his first 25-mile endurance ride, we placed 3rd and got to show for Best Condition. My Bucket List ride is TEVIS! It's a 100 mile ride!

I became involved with Gymkhana because it is Shiloh’s preferred Horse Sport. Growing up, seeing the older girls run barrels has had an influence on her. Although it’s not my preferred horse sport, as a parent, I want to encourage my daughter to follow all her Horse Dreams!

However, I must say, that the sport of Gymkhana has grown on me. I find it intriguing to watch riders and their horses run the patterns and I am starting to think that I might like to have a go at it myself one day.

I am especially interested in keeping Gymkhana ALIVE in Leona Valley because the play days offer beginning riders and experienced ones an opportunity to get their feet wet in this sport with no pressure. I know that it has been a long -standing tradition in Leona Valley and I would like to keep it going for all those future riders, young AND OLDER people who have a DREAM in their mind and haven’t had an opportunity to achieve their goals YET! I’m one of those riders! I am in the process of getting me and my horse ready to run the patterns one day! And when we are ready, our first run will be at Leona Valley!

As for my Endurance goals, I don’t know what will become of them. For now, I’m focused solely on Gymkhana. I feel that I have been called to serve others by taking care of the Leona Valley Gymkhana. I never thought in a million years that I would become this involved with this sport because of my Endurance background and knowledge but I also believe that God puts us where He needs us to be. I’m just along for the ride but I am looking toward the future of this sport and its role in Leona Valley.

WELCOME

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!
So, this post is to announce that we will not be having a July Gymkhana. Our June Gymkhana was the best one we’ve had in many years and we were hoping to have another amazing one this month. Unfortunately, it’s just not that easy to put together with the current Covid restrictions going on right now. We appreciate everyone being patient with some restrictions last month, and we know if we were having a Gymkhana this month, you would’ve been equally as patient. For that, we thank you.
With all that being said, we will be following our normal schedule and will be dark for the August Gymkhana.
Also, if you become a member to The LVIA, you have the option to get an arena key! That way you have the opportunity to use our arena for practice (or fun)! See pricing on our webpage at myleonavalley.org (click on the “join us” tab and then the membership form link) or pick up a membership form (in The Cherry Chapters) at Ranchers Market.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or PM this page, and I will answer any questions you may have. Thank you for your constant support and I hope you have a great couple of months! Stay safe out there! 🐎💙

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Gymkhana yesterday (and being patient with some computer glitches)! We had almost 40 riders, the largest event we’ve had in a very long time! Your support is what keeps our Gymkhanas and other events alive!
(See my article in July’s Cherry Chapters for more details about yesterday!)

Good morning!! T-minus 4 days until our first Gymkhana since 2019!!!! Although we are no longer doing a Buckle Series, I’m happy to announce that we will be doing High Point Day awards, donated by KH Kustoms. AND- don’t forget to dress in your best patriotic colors for 4th of July! A $20 gift card to Hemme will be given to the “Best Dressed/decorated”! 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙🇺🇸

Riders and spectators: Please remember that we have to abide by the LA Co Covid guidelines (see Event post for further details). A HUGE thank you to Jack's Place for donating hand sanitizer and to Waste Management for providing the hand washing station. Both of which are mandatory for us to hold this event! Don’t forget to bring a sack lunch, but “grab and go” snacks and drinks will be available for purchase through the Queen Café! Because we have to Social Distance, we recommend bringing chairs since the bleachers may not be available. It will be a warm day so make sure to pack sunscreen as well!! It’s been a busy few days and I forgot to share to this page. Below is an update regarding upcoming Gymkhanas. (Sorry to those of you who are seeing this twice.)
🐎🐎🐎
Unfortunately, my Committees and I, with the backing of the LVIA Board, have decided to cancel the April and May Gymkhanas until further notice. The Rural Olympics that were planned for May 9th is also cancelled until further notice.

I’m sorry to those of you that are frustrated. I feel for my fellow Board Members and Committee Members that have had to make these difficult decisions in unprecedented times. I’m sad for the other LV organizations, LV committees and private rentals that have had to cancel events. I’m EXTREMELY sad for our local kids- The Community Queens, Gymkhana Queens, 4-H & FFA Clubs, and LV Elementary kids that have had these past couple (and upcoming) months taken from them.

Please know that the the LVIA Board took every thought and consideration into account while making these decisions, for the safety and well being of our community.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to myself, my Committee Members or any LVIA Board Member.

As most of you know, the March Gymkhana was cancelled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, and we have had quite a few inquires regarding the status of the April Gymkhana. The Gymkhana Committee will continue to monitor the situation and make a determination as it gets closer, under the advisement of The Governor’s Office, L.A. County and L.V.I.A Board.
Thank you for your patience during this unusual time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact myself or any of my Committee Members.

The Leona Valley Gymkhana Committee regrets to inform you that we must cancel our March Gymkhana due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
L.A. County (Fire, Sheriff, and Supervisor’s Office) has recommended that ALL Antelope Valley events be cancelled until further notice and we, as a Committee, cannot take this advice lightly. This was a very promising start to a successful season but we value the health of our Gymkhana Queens, Gymkhana Committee, participants, and spectators more than the event, ribbons, and buckles. We will keep monitoring this situation and give updates on future Gymkhanas and Events as often as we can. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
