Know Your Veteran’s Day LA Co-Host!

Meet BJ Lange, USAF Medic, Retired 2016.
BJ Lange is a current resident of Los Angeles and a native to St. Louis, Missouri. BJ is an alumnus of iO WEST (formerly improvOlympic West), Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre - Los Angeles, and a graduate of Second City Hollywood Conservatory, long form program, and musical improv programs. He has also studied at The Groundlings Theatre.

BJ has been seen on MTV, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Comedy Central Central. He is an instructor at The Improv Trick , 321 Acting Studios, and The Second City Hollywood where he leads the Improv for Veterans Program. He is a past instructor at the prestigious Orange County School of the Arts Acting Conservatory and coached the high school’s Improv Club.

BJ uses his improv training in other aspects of his career including hosting national televised events and tours such as Maxim’s Spring Break in Panama City Beach, FL. His talents also led him into “shoutcasting” for The World Series of Video Games (CBS Sports) and hosting GameRiot (MTV2).

BJ started in theatre (high school, college, and community) and soon found himself working in radio – landing himself a role as the stuntboy on the nationally syndicated Steve & DC Radio Network which, not surprisingly, got him arrested for many critically- acclaimed stunts. Radio is also what fueled BJ’s experiences in voice-over work.

Live events are where BJ continued to thrive as he kept audiences entertained hosting events such as the Simon© dTour Live! Presented by ABC Family, X-Games BMX Jams, and the LG National Texting Championship and Mobile World Cup. BJ also toured with famed Disney star Selena Gomez while hosting the Monte Carlo movie tour. Other notable events include “Meet Your Makers” a 60 minute late-night talk show event for Electronic Arts at the GameStop Manager’s Conference. BJ has performed around the world. He was in Germany for the U.S. Army and lived in Blackpool, England while performing at a Pleasure Beach Amusement Park theatre.

Around Los Angeles, you can find BJ playing with various groups including his two-man comedy duo, Tacklebox Improv. He recently performed at the Alaska State Improv Comedy Festival and Improvaganza! Hawaii Festival of Improv.

When BJ’s not “Yes, and-ing” his passions include beatboxing, riding motorcycles, aviation, barbequing, and volunteering. BJ is a pilot, and proudly volunteers as a Public Affairs Officer in Civil Air Patrol, the United States Air Force Auxiliary, where he is also an accomplished aircrew member and graduate of the Air Force & Coast Guard’s National Search & Rescue school. BJ has received many service awards including a Presidential National Disaster Relief ribbon, and a “Find” ribbon for his volunteer service.

BJ is a retired @USAF Reserve medic and two-time testicular cancer survivor. He is a service-connected disabled veteran yet continues to be an athlete, ambassador, and mentor in the Air Force Wounded Warrior program where he also serves as a comedy coach teaching applied improv as part of the resiliency programs. BJ is also a proud cast member of DIAVOLO Dance Theatre’s Veterans Project which recently performed at The Kennedy Center. BJ serves on the Artists Council for the Armed Services Arts Partnership - ASAP and is a proud member of the The Veterans of Comedy, Veterans in Media & Entertainment, and the American Legion Post 43 - Hollywood, CA / The American Legion National Headquarters.

Viet Nam Navy Veteran and Lead Singer of the second generation of The Platters, Jerome Robinson, will bless us with his beautiful rendition of the classic Ray Charles "America" at 2:55 pm followed by an aerial demonstration to close out our event.

@Jerome Robinson Sr.

In 1967 Robinson joined the Navy, did a tour of duty in Vietnam and then was stationed in San Diego.

Born Jerome Benjamin Alexander Burgess

Born the son of a couple from Nassau, Bahamas. James and Barbara Burgess gave Jerome Robinson (then named Jerome Benjamin Alexander Burgess) up for adoption.

At the age of two. He was taken in by a wonderful woman named Ruby Robinson. He had been told all of his life that his natural family had passed away.

Twenty-eight years later, Jerome received a phone call from a man who said he was his natural father. Jerome learned of a family he had never seen and of a father that wished to share his love ...

Jerome said, "After I wiped the tears from my eyes there was nothing left for me to say." Jerome met his father. It was very emotional. Unfortunately, two years after meeting, Jerome's father passed away.

This led to the recording of the song "I Never Sang for My Father," (Jerome was known and performing at this time under the name of Alexander Love. In 1979 Jerome recorded a CD titled "Pieces of Love".

Besides being an entertainer and great singer he is very proud of his other accomplishments in being a father, grandfather and great grandfather and loves the moments he gets to spend with his family who live in other states. He also is a former policeman and a veteran and loves performing for veteran events.
Jerome is a gentleman with a big heart and treats everyone he meets with respect and dignity.

"My favorite thing in life is performing. The reason I love it so much is that it touches people. I am the happiest when I have touched someone's heart through a song. People come up to me after I perform and say things such as, " That was the song played at our wedding or when we met." By the grace of the good Lord, I am doing what I love to do. I give God thanks for the gift of my voice, so I can bring happiness into other people's lives".

THE LOS ANGELES COLISEUM: DEDICATED TO THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES MEMORIAL – Los Angeles Coliseum

Did you know?

"In 1953 approval was granted for a memorial patterned on the famous photograph of the flag raising at Mount Surabachi on Iwo Jima, and its location was to be the Figueroa Street entrance to Exposition Park. For reasons lost to history (perhaps the fact that the United States Marines were about to construct a monument with the same imagery in Washington, DC), the Park memorial never materialized".

Thank you Courtland Jindra for sharing and your never ending dedication to ensuring our history is preserved and never forgotten!
