CicLAvia is a free and recurring event that allows for the temporary closing of interconnected routes throughout the region, creating a web of public space in which Angelenos can walk, bike, exercise, socialize, celebrate, and explore new cultures and neighborhoods. Similar events occur in many other cities around the US like Portland, New York and San Francisco. The Bogóta ciclovía also has inspired programs in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Quito and Melbourne.

Thinking of Buying a Bike? Get Ready for a Very Long Wait

In March, nationwide sales of bicycles nearly doubled compared with the same period last year. Sales of commuter and fitness bikes in the same month increased 66%, leisure bikes jumped 121%, children’s bikes went up 59% and electric bikes rose 85%. By the end of April, many stores and distributors had *sold out* of low-end consumer bikes.

“We are seeing people who hadn’t biked before are trying it for the first time. We are going to see a lot more of that.”

The United States is facing a shortage of bicycles as anxiety over public transportation and a desire to exercise has sent the demand surging.

"While 55% of car commuters said that they didn’t miss their work journeys at all, 91% of bike commuters said that they miss at least some parts of theirs." Will future commutes 'return to normal,' or will commuters seek out ways to bike & walk to work?

Will car traffic surge as lockdowns end, or will millions of Americans decide to bike, walk, or work from home permanently? Emerging research offers some hints.

London’s Trees Are Saving the City Billions

Trees are economically friendly, too! A report estimates that tree cover saved London more than $6.56 billion (US) from 2014 to 2018 through air cooling alone. Additionally, by keeping summer temperatures bearable for workers, trees prevented productivity losses of even more.

Shady trees mean less air conditioning and increased worker productivity in the summer months.

Our Story

CicLAvia is a free and recurring event that allows for the temporary closing of interconnected routes throughout the LA region, creating a web of public space in which Angelenos can walk, bike, exercise, socialize, celebrate, and explore new cultures and neighborhoods.

Similar events occur in many other cities around the US like Portland, New York, and San Francisco. The Bogóta ciclovía also has inspired programs in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Quito, and Melbourne.
