Coronaviruses, Ebola, and rabies... you probably think bats are a biological threat to humans. Rather than viewing bats and other animals as threats, how can we view them as protectors of human viral pandemic outbreaks? How might we reframe and manage future public health disasters? Dr. Olivier Pernet invites you to reconsider common misconceptions about bats and viruses. Join us on Thursday, April 30 from 12-1 pm through Zoom! Sign up here: tedx.ucla.edu/conversations

How important is species conservation and what does it mean in our world today? How and why should we prioritize nature? In this week’s conversation, wildlife biologist and filmmaker Alex Braczkowski will discuss everything from taking photos of big cats in trees to global conservation issues to “Tiger King.” He will also discuss how he, as both a scientist and filmmaker, can tell a good story with limited resources. Anyone recognize the buildings in these photos? 👀
We started Create for TEDxUCLA as a way to showcase our community, and we received this stunning submission by photographer Aye Pyae (@apyaephotography) for the prompt of creative agency. She uses photography as a way to express creative agency, and here’s what she has to say about it:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Photography is a way for me to express my creativity. I enjoy shooting portraits because I believe that people are the best subjects. I like to experiment with various angles and lighting to complement my composition. I started photography because I wanted to capture moments and the raw emotions that people expressed in those moments!”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Who is someone you know who expresses creative agency? Tag them here and PM us - we would love to feature them!

Revolutionizing space exploration by launching an atomic clock into space | Jill Seubert | TEDxUCLA

We can revolutionize deep space exploration by launching an atomic clock into space. What might this mean for our next 100 years of space discovery? Dr. Jill Seubert is a mother, a wife, and an interplanetary navigator at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. She has navigated numerous missions to and about Mars, most recently guiding the InSight lander to its touchdown in Mars’ Elysium Planitia. Jill studied Aerospace Engineering at the University of Colorado, Boulder and the Pennsylvania State University. As Deputy Principal Investigator for NASA’s Deep Space Atomic Clock technology demonstration mission, Jill explores how highly-stability timekeeping in deep space can improve deep space navigation, as well as reveal secrets of the universe

Hey Group - Anyone else been suffering from a medical mystery, and you doctor's haven't been able to figure it out either? PM me.
Join us at TEDxUCLA Salon: Restoration on 8/10! We are so excited to announce our speakers and share more info about the Activities Fair this week! Thank you all for your patience so far and hope you can appreciate the amazing program we have curated for you. That said, our first speaker announcement is Erin Sommerville, who will be talking about Living in the Field of Unlimited Possibility. "As children life is filled with wonder and possibility. As adults we often focus on our perceived limitations, losing our connection to those magical childhood traits. In this talk - I am going to open up the door to living life again - the way we are meant to be living it - creatively, joyously and mystically in the Field of Unlimited Possibility."
When will the speakers selected be notified and announced?
