To Our Ebell Community:

The Ebell of Los Angeles is the oldest continuously operating women’s club in Los Angeles. It was founded by women, for women in 1894. Our legacy is one of community, service, philanthropy and history. Like so many others, our business model has been broadsided by the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. The Ebell is experiencing a cash flow crunch because our revenue stream from the Wilshire Ebell Theatre and Special Event Department rentals has come to a standstill.

That is why we launched our Ebell Emergency Fund to help our Club through this public health emergency until we can reopen. Our goal is to raise $500,000. This will bridge the operations gap for the next 6 months. Your support of the Ebell is critical right now.

The Ebell legacy is strong. We have endured for more than 125 years, through two World Wars and the Great Depression, and we will get through this, with your help!

If you are woman. Give. If you love a woman. Give on their behalf.

Instead of indulging in flowers or candy today, consider a gift that will serve diverse women of all ages for generations to come.

Through this uncertain time, a donation from you will keep the doors open for the 125 year old Ebell of Los Angeles and its Wilshire Ebell Theatre. As the longest running women’s philanthropic club in Los Angeles, it has weathered two World Wars and the Great Depression, and with you, it will endure. https://ebellofla.com/club/support/donate-now/

We’ve asked our members to share stories of how they are staying healthy, happy and busy. We hope you find inspiration and comfort in knowing we’re in this together. Please check out this great story from Ebell Member Nancy Meade:

“I am an avid swing dancer and have loved dancing pretty much all of my life. I am taking virtual swing dance classes with Steve Sayer of L.A. Jitterbug Swing Dance Academy. Steve is a wonderful instructor, known world-wide among swing dancers, and he, along with his lovely wife Karine, began teaching virtual classes this week.

It is particularly encouraging that Steve jumped right in and took positive action and, consequently, has spread an awful lot of cheer and happiness in these trying times. Anyone can join his classes and, since you are in the comfort of your own home, do as much as you can, and no one is looking to see if you miss a step.”

To our Ebell Community,

We want to assure you that the Ebell puts the health and safety of our members, guests and employees first. Due to the recent outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) we are implementing extra measures to keep our community safe and additional housekeeping routines are being implemented for more stringent sanitizing of our facility.

All of our employees are well aware of the proper hygiene and cleaning procedures, and additional posters have been strategically placed to remind them of these procedures. Hand sanitizer is positioned throughout the Club, and use is advised for all Club visitors and staff. Housemen have been given instruction to sanitize points of common contact every hour, including doorknobs, light switches, handrails, countertops and iPads. The kitchen staff, food handlers and servers have received training on proper hand washing techniques, wearing gloves to prepare and serve food. Employees are instructed to stay home if exhibiting any signs of illness.

We are prepared to alter our procedures and planning in the event that the situation changes. We will communicate with our membership as appropriate.

The practice of good hygiene is the best way to prevent vulnerability towards and the spread of any virus, including the Coronavirus. Up-to-date information on the Coronavirus may be found on the CDC website. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html

We are grateful for the support of our members and guests. The safety of our community is of utmost importance to us.
