Building African Womenâs & Youth Movements and Forming International Sisterhood
Newsletter ********************************************January 2018
We are continuing the process of building powerful African Women and Youth Movements that will connect all African women and youth inside and outside of Africa. This is a very important part of the African independence movement. African Womenâs and Youth Movements are necessary in order to educate, mobilize, and organize the largest number of African women and youth as possible. Our vision includes obtaining our own collective housing, collective kitchens, schools, childcare, transportation, and employment/skills training. We want clean drinking air and clean drinking for all. We must build a strong infrastructure in Africa and we must be tightly organized inside and outside of Africa.
The strengths and weaknesses of those of us outside of Africa are directly related to the strengths and weaknesses of Africa itself!
CONFERENCES EVERYWHERE We started the African Womenâs Charity Organization (2000) after having traveled to Angola (1999) and asked the Organization of Angolan Women (OMA) to tell us how they organized 1.5 million women into their organization. They suggested that we build the womenâs movements outside of Africa to connect with the womenâs movement inside of Africa. We decided to organize conferences in the US to bring together African women (women of African descent) and organizations to get to know about each otherâs organizations to support each other, learn from each other for the purpose of unification, independence, and self-sufficiency of Africa. We believe that the strengths and weaknesses of those of us outside of Africa are directly related to the strengths and weaknesses of Africa itself. We are determined to make a contribution to the unification of Africa through the emancipation and leadership of women.
We organized our first conference in Oakland, CA in 2000, honoring International Womenâs Day. We proceeded to organize conferences throughout the U.S. With much interest from women in Africa wanting to participate in the conferences in the U.S. we were encouraged to start organizing conferences in Africa. Our first conference in Africa was held in Dakar, Senegal in 2007.
Altogether, we have organized over thirty conferences, about half inside and half outside of Africa. Our goal is to have a conference in every country in Africa within five years. We also want to have conferences wherever people of African descent are.
Some places that we have organized African Women and Youth Conferences are Oakland, CA, Richmond, CA, San Diego, CA, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, GA, Los Angeles, CA, Pikine Dakar, and Touba, Senegal, Accra, Kpando and Komenda, Ghana, The Gambia, Bamako, Mali, Dalaba, Guinea, Kigali, Rwanda, Sacramento, CA, Dar es Saleem and Arusha, Tanzania, Kampala, Uganda, and Pretoria, South Africa. Our next conferences are scheduled for April, 2018 in Cape Town, South Africa and in December, 2018 in Guinea.
You can help by seeking women, youth, and other organizations that are working for the people, interested friends and family, and organize or help to organize an African Women and Youth conference where you are. From the people who attend the conference start a study group and a chapter of the African Womenâs Charity Organization. Inside of Africa, we are âWomen for the Unification of Africa.â
HOW DO WE ACHIEVE THE UNIFICATION OF AFRICA
*We think that the strategy of organizing organizations is the key to the unification of Africa. Our goal is to organize African Women and Youth conferences in every country in Africa in the next 5 years for the purpose of education and organization.
*We want to locate, identify, and develop a relationship with all the womenâs organizations in Africa. In every country in Africa, we want to ask all the womenâs organizations to build an organization of women organizations whose purpose is the unification of Africa. This organization is called âWomen for the Unification of Africaâ
*We want to locate, identify, and develop a relationship to all the youth organizations in Africa. In every country in Africa, we want to ask all the youth organizations to build an organization of youth organizations whose purpose is the unification of Africa.
*We want to ask all the men to organize men into an organization whose purpose is the âEmancipation of Women.â We will call that organization âMen for the Emancipation of Women and the Unification of Africa. This organization will be a part of the Womenâs Movement and under the leadership of organized women.
WHY IS ORGANIZATION NECESSARY FOR THE UNIFICATION OF AFRICA
Organization is necessary in order to facilitate the planning of our liberation and monitoring the implementation of the plan.
Organization is necessary because it channels all of the energy of those who work for our betterment and improvement.
Organization is necessary because without it, we leave ourselves open to the oppressorsâ tactic of âdivide and conquerâ or âdivide and ruleâ.
Organization is necessary because without it we let issues dictate what direction we go in. There are always issues for us to respond to. The end result is that we go in circles and never really get to the root of the problem.
Organization is necessary to ensure that the youth are brought into the struggle.
Organization is necessary because it forces us to be more conscious and aware of our conditions and to be responsible for changing our lives.
Organization is necessary to systemize training programs for potential members.
Organization is necessary to expedite womenâs emancipation.
Organization is necessary to make sure that we engage in self-evaluation of our strategies and tactics, to insure that we modify our approach when necessary.
Organization is necessary for us to keep an inventory of our resources, to see that they are utilized properly.
Organization is necessary for us to have expert communication systems to all parts of our community.
Organization is necessary for us to see that we as a people respond quickly when the situation dictates that we do so.
Organization is necessary because oppressed people have never become successful without it.
Organization is necessary to safeguard our independent territories from external aggression.
Organization is necessary because the enemy/negative forces are organized.
Organization is necessary to combat the lies that some of the media bombards us with.
Organization is necessary because it allows us to see who the real workers for the people are.
Organization is necessary because lack of organization is our biggest enemy.
Organization is necessary to attain power. There is a direct relationship between power and organization. Those who are the most organized have power. Those who are the least organized are powerless.
Organization is necessary because it allows us to use our time most efficiently. With organization we can do in one day what previously took twenty years.
Organization is necessary because âorganization decides everything!â
