SongFest

SongFest SongFest at Colburn is the premier music festival and training program dedicated to song in the United States.
SongFest is the United States' premier art song festival and training program held each summer at the Colburn School in Los Angeles. SongFest attracts an international roster of leading recital artists and pedagogues as well as students from some of the nation’s top music conservatories. Audiences enjoy a vibrant concert series presented in Colburn's state-of-the-art venues that is entirely free to the public, and auditors can attend daily masterclasses and lectures led by the most exciting artists of today. In partnership with the Sorel Organization, SongFest has made a substantial contribution to the art song repertoire through its commissioning program that has produced new works for voice and piano by such distinguished composers as William Bolcom, Gabriela Lena Frank, John Harbison, Jennifer Higdon, and Libby Larsen. A limited number of need and merit based scholarship opportunities are available, and eight full scholarships for both singers and collaborative pianists are graciously provided by the Marc and Eva Stern Foundation. SongFest Alumni feature prominently on the rosters of many opera companies, Young Artist programs, and university faculties. Tickets for the songSLAM Festival are MOVING! Experience the fourth annual songSLAM Friday, January 17th (a competition for new song where the audience awards $2,000 in prizes), and then come back the next night to see legendary Stephanie Blythe in recital on the 18th.

These are not your typical song recitals! (psst- it ain't your grandmother's pricing either - with everything $25 or less) You *could* go to the Met for over $100 and see this kind of talent through your binoculars... or you could sit 20 feet away from the talent at the The DiMenna Center for Classical Music. 7pm both nights!

Bruno Roy(alias: "The Fly") seducing Abby Raiford! Bruno gave Jeff Goldblum a run for his money!

BRUNO ROY, baritone
A graduate of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble, Montreal-born Bruno studied at McGill University. The 2018-2019 season included a house debut at Oper Frankfurt in “Capriccio”. In May 2019 Bruno is a recipient of the 2019 Eva & Marc Stern Fellowship at SongFest.

ABBY RAIFORD, soprano
Abby studies with our own SongFest faculty Amy Burton at The New School in NYC. She was recently featured with the Mannes Orchestra singing “Chanson de Ronsard” by Milhaud (lots of high notes!). Abby is thrilled to have been chosen as an Apprentice Artist at Sarasota Opera for 2020. Her performance of Tatyana in Heggie's Great Scott quartet “The Starry Spangled Banner" was unforgettable!
