These are just some of the most recent deaths highlighting centuries of systemic racial inequality. Black lives DO matter. They matter at the Department of Theater. They matter at TFT. They matter at UCLA. They matter in Minnesota. They matter everywhere.

Earlier this month, UCLA flew our flag at half mast in honor of an incredible artist, friend, and faculty member. Neil Jampolis dedicated his life to theater and we honor and remember him as the talent he was. Aside from being a Tony award-winning lighting designer, he was also a scenic designer, a costume designer, and a director.
This 4 time Tony Awards nominee most recently completed the lighting design for Mozart's "The Magic Flute" which opened on November 2nd at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. We are so thankful to have had Neil in our department for 26 wonderful years as a designer and mentor. We celebrate a life outstandingly well lived, but we will miss his presence greatly.
