For the uninitiated: The Mansion was built in 1899 for the Oliver P. Posey family by architects Theodore Eisen and Sumner Hunt, but is best known as the longtime home to oil baron Edward Doheny and his wife, philanthropist Estelle Doheny. The Mansion became a centerpiece of Mount Saint Mary's University's Doheny Campus in 1962, and remains so today.

The Doheny Campus is now home to the Mount Saint Mary's University Graduate Division, Weekend/Evening College and associate's degree programs, as well as the critically acclaimed The Da Camera Society, Los Angeles, which presents chamber music in historic settings – like the Doheny Mansion!

We're excited for some more music in the mansion tomorrow! Hope you can be here for an exciting -- and free(!) -- Musical Encounter with an exciting, emerging classical artist!

Need a musical interlude? You’re in luck. Tomorrow is a FREE “Musical Encounter Friday” at the Mount! The The Da Camera Society, Los Angeles here at MSMU will present this free event on both campuses, Friday, Oct. 26. Performances feature Jesse Flowers, an award-winning classical guitarist from Australia. Flowers recently won the top prize at the International Eurostrings Competition, and is currently an artist in residence with Da Camera.

Flowers’ casual, 30-minute Musical Encounter on Friday will feature a 19th century Italian showpiece, a romantic Brazilian prelude and a “haunted sonata” just in time for Halloween. Q&A time follows each performance. Join us! Open to all students, faculty, staff, Mount Alums, partners, neighbors and friends. Details in the images here!

We loved hosting the inaugural Women in Music Festival here at Mount Saint Mary's University. Nothing like a performance in the Mansion's Pompeian Room!

We have some great pics to share from Mount Saint Mary's University's first-ever Women in Music Festival, held on our Doheny Campus and inside the historic Doheny Mansion! The day-long, free festival -- created by the Mount Saint Mary's University Los Angeles Department of Music -- showcased the diversity of music, as well as the power of music as a vehicle for positive social change.

The festival also featured Grammy-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens, who opened the festival by leading a masterclass with emerging artists, and closed the festival with a performance alongside Lara Downes with a setlist that included overlooked or forgotten women musicians and composers across a wide variety of genres, including spirituals, Broadway and Americana tunes.

Thank you to the Mount's Music Department for creating this experience, and to the The Da Camera Society, Los Angeles for their support!

We always love getting dressed up this time of year! :)

Thanks to all who came to the Mansion's Christmas Open House this year, or came to other Mount Saint Mary's University and public events throughout the month. We're looking forward to the new year!

We hope your halls are decked and your stockings are hung by the chimney with care. Most of all, though, we hope you are celebrating this special time of year with the love of family and friends. Happy Christmas Eve!

We're thrilled to welcome a newly renovated space to the top floor of the mansion here at Mount Saint Mary's University! Welcome, CSJ Institute!

It's official, the CSJ Institute has opened our new home. Located on the third floor of the historic Doheny Mansion, the Institute now resides in the former Chapel of Mrs. Doheny and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet / Los Angeles.

We celebrated by inviting our sisters to bless the space and continue to bless our work. We at Mount Saint Mary's University stand on the shoulders of these great women. Thank you for your courageous and visionary leadership and for inspiring us to serve our #DearNeighbor.

Who watched Downton Abbey's final season premiere last night? We particularly enjoyed watching Lesley Nicol, aka Mrs. Patmore, especially in her scenes with Mr. Carson! We were honored to host Mrs. Nicol here in the Mansion last month, as part of a special reception presented by KLCS - offering a sneak peek at the final season of Downton Abbey!

Pictured here is Lesley Nicol, at left, with Mount Saint Mary's President Ann McElaney-Johnson.
