The goal at Lynette McNeill Studio is to produce confident actors who are equipped with the skills they need to perform in any situation and to do so with outstanding results. The one constant in the entertainment industry is that it’s full of change. It takes an actor who is strong and confident with his acting abilities to handle whatever comes his way when conditions are less than perfect. Creating good work without agonizing is the name of the game. I've been teaching and directing for over 20 years now. When I was in college I began directing. It was through directing that I discovered how important it was to work with an actor in a way that allowed them to fully create the part so that it was uniquely his. That understanding led me to teaching. Since then I’ve had the pleasure of teaching some of today’s most talented artists – Adam Sandler, Giovanni Ribisi, Jason Lee, Ellen Degeneres, Janeane Garofalo and Anne Archer, to name a few. My purpose in teaching is to help an actor to find their voice creatively and passionately. When an actor creates freely and confidently their choices are often the richest and most imaginative. My approach is different in that it’s mine and not taken from another technique. Rather than reactivating past experiences, I teach my students to BE the character, to create them in the present. There's nothing I love more than to help launch the careers of wonderful new actors! Feel free to ask me any questions and tell me a little bit about yourself too. Warmest regards, Lynette

“Actors are responsible to the people we play. I don’t label or judge, I just play them as expressively as I can.” A favorite quote by the talented Philip Seymour Hoffman, and a wonderful perspective for all of us actors to embody. 🎬❤️🎬

I’m often asked by actors, how to make good choices for playing a character in a scene…

One of the first places to look, is the script itself. Understanding what the writer needs from you can help you gain a new perspective on the character, the scene, and what he wants at this moment.

I recently saw an interview with writer Aaron Sorkin (of “The Social Network” and “Molly’s Game) who talked about this very thing.

He said:

“I worship at the altar of intention and obstacle. That’s the driveshaft of the car.”

What do you want, how do you intend to get it, and what’s in your way?

Work harder than anyone else.
I’ve had the honor and privilege of working with some Academy Award winning talent. They started their day earlier, left later, and worked harder than anyone else around them. And I never heard them complaining. They were too busy creating!

Here’s to your success!

Keep your purpose strong. 💪🏼✨
In these trying times, it is easy to want to stop or give up. Take this time to focus, to learn and grow. Behind everything that stops you is a failure to have accomplished your goal. Rekindle that goal and your drive to succeed will be restored.

“Drive. Geniuses have a strong desire to work hard and long. They are willing to give all they’ve got to a project. Develop your drive by focusing on your future success, and keep going.”

How can you apply that to your career immediately? What scene do you want to tackle in acting class? Do it. What future success would you like to have? A lead on a series, a reoccurring part on a series, a feature film, a web series, name it. Now go into action on achieving that.

As a teacher, my focus is to work with the student in front of me, an individual and not a generality, to help him discover his voice as an actor. This is vital to opening the door to a successful career.
My philosophy as a teacher is that actors learn by doing so every actor works every class in exercises that are tailor made to his or her needs to expand his or her range with character and emotion. The focus is on providing the actor with the information he needs to know to be a skillful working actor – everything from script analysis, to auditioning, to working on set.

I believe all actors want to go further in the exploration of what it is to be a human being. That’s what makes them so irresistible. I believe it’s amazing to have the courage to try to explore the mystery of putting yourself in someone else’s shoes. I have respect for actors. I am grateful when they unexpectedly sweep me away from the horror of trying to make a movie. I am thrilled when they transport me out of reality. I am excited by their possibilities. I love actors. #thankful

Great advice from Jimmy Fallon. “There’s always going to be someone out there… who doesn’t believe in you or who thinks your head is too big or you’re not smart enough. But those are the people you need to ignore, and those are the times you need to just keep doing what you love doing.”

When you find a role that speaks to you and you plan to audition for it, always read the entire script. Once you’re done, read it again. Find the character within the words — their unique qualities, their good and bad, their subtle nuances. Doing this will put you well ahead of the competition and help you nail the performance 🎬👍🏼

Whenever you’re working on a set, ALWAYS respect the crew. These men and women work long, tough hours to help make sure your scene is shot perfectly. You never want to develop a reputation for being that difficult actor on set, so have fun, be on time, be respectful, and enjoy your crew! 🎬👍🏼

If you’re going to audition, go in as a professional, not an amateur. When you walk into the casting director’s office, know that you’ve been given an opportunity not only to read for a part, but to also show your skills as an actor. You’ll either leave a great impression, which could get you called back for the part, or leave a bad impression and not get the opportunity again. 💫🎭

The number one thing you need when deciding to pursue an acting career is commitment. It sounds so simple, but the first thing you need to do when starting a career is to know that this is what you want to do. Really make the decision that you’re going to do this, then make the commitment. 🎞🎤

Sometimes we feel uncertain about how to break down a character or we get nervous about having enough time to prepare for a role. When those situations arise, working one on one with an acting coach often helps you stay grounded in the character and focus on it’s logic within the story. This keeps you open and available for notes or adjustments that come your way throughout the audition process as well as during production. 🎟⭐️
