When at a wine tasting event, it is not frowned upon for spitting wine out. Take a sip of wine and hold it in your mouth for a couple seconds, then either swallow it or spit out. This is an acceptable way to know if it’s a good wine. A good wine will have a lengthy aftertaste.

Such a great event on Sunday! Loved the interaction - whichis what it's meant to be. New Zealand is a beautiful country and it's wines are the same. Thanks to Graham Painter and David Harlow of New Zealand Wine Navigator, we were treated to a discussion on some of the wine regions in NZ and wines from three of them: 2020 Little Darling Sauvignon Blanc, 2018 Forrest Rosé, 2016 Ceres Composition Pinot Noir, and a lovely 2013 Vidal El Legado Syrah!

"It was such a great experience - my first virtual tasting and first New Zealand wines. I learned so much that and didn't know - I usually don't drink Rosé (I will now), and both the Pinot Noir and Syrah were excellent. I'll be buying New Zealand wines from now on." Lois

"Thank you for such a wonderful event today Sherry and I enjoyed it immensely and can't wait to order the Syrah."
Keith and Sherry

"I was surprised at how well I could taste the grape immediately in the Sauvignon Blanc - very educational and well done event!"
Norman

Thank you, everyone - see you next month when we visit another country with terrific wine!

TIME TO MAKE YOUR RESERVATION!

Why get 3 bottles of wine when you get get 4... especially if the 4th is this showstopping 2013 Vidal El Legado Syrah. REMEMBER... reserve no later than this weekend to have the wines shipped to you in time!

In 1900, Anthony Vidal set out to produce wines of his own and Anthony began a search for the perfect growing region to produce the high-quality continental style wines he favored. He found it in Hawkes Bay, NZ purchasing an old racing stable which he converted into rudimentary cellars and established Vidal in 1905. Success followed quickly, underpinned by his patient and natural approach to winemaking. Today they continue this approach, producing unique, terroir-driven wines from outstanding sites in Hawkes Bay and Marlborough.

This enticingly fragrant Syrah from the renowned Gimblett Gravels region in Hawke’s Bay shows aromas of violets, dark rose and underlying spice. Elegantly balanced, this wine is finely textured and has a long, concentrated finish. An exceptional wine that will age well over time.

Pinot Noir your favorite? Brothers James and Matt Dicey combine ethical viticulture with minimalist wine-making techniques to craft wine in partnership with the Roman Goddess of Agriculture. A relationship shaping the most beautiful expression of the land that mankind can create with nature – exceptional wines that hero-worship the vineyard they come from. These wines are adorned in the artwork of James' wife, Odelle Morshuis to celebrate all those “artists” involved in capturing this moment in time and space. From Central Otego, South Island, NZ, comes this lovely 2016 Pinot Noir - attractive and engaging bouquet of ripe red berry fruits – raspberry, plum and cherry; plenty of spice and mineral tones with a wild red rose perfume.

Find out more about this and other wines we'll be tasting from New Zealand on March 14th -

Is Rosé your cup of tea? As one of the wines we'll be tasting on March 14th -- a little about the winery -

Just outside of Renwick, in Marlborough, NZ the Forrest family has been crafting wines since the late 1980’s. Returning to family roots and generations of farming in the Marlborough region seemed a natural progression for John and Brigid Forrest, after successful careers in scientific research and medicine.

Fast forward 30 years; many awards and accolades, various labels and vineyards across the country. Forrest is set for generations. Rosé holds a special place in our hearts. With the first Forrest vintage in 1990 – the result of an over-filled red wine fermenter - ‘accidentally’ delivering a trophy winning Merlot Rosé – Forrest has been enjoying success after success ever since. We'll be checking out the 2018 vintage...

One of the wines we'll be tasting March 14th is the Little Darling Sauvingnon Blanc by Darling Wines in Marlborough New Zealand.

Chris Darling and Bart Arnst teamed up in 2007. After making great wine for other people they decided to make great wine for themselves under The Darling label. Using only certified organic grapes to make their wines, they find it increases quality and gives certainty to the integrity of the wines. With over 45 years of winemaking experience between them, Chris and Bart make regional, complex wines, that drink well on any occasion.

JOIN LAWineFest March 14th for another International Sunday ‘Brunch’ and WineTasting as we travel (by zoom) to New Zealand. Ready for a Kiwi wine-tasting experience? Discover some of the best international wines you've never heard of?

You bring the Brunch – we’ll bring the wine (shipped to your doorstep) and a few pairing and recipe suggestions. Then join Graham Painter and David Harlow (from New Zealand Wine Navigator) who will take you on a journey to explore what makes New Zealand wines so special -- and they'll taste and discuss the various varietals right along with you! (and maybe tell you why they call New Zealanders 'Kiwis'!)

You'll taste and enjoy unique hard-to-find wines from the New Zealand Wine Country. We can't really travel right now so let's do the next best thing - spend some time learning about the country and their wine regions (maybe you can visit NEXT year)! And, you'll have time to ask questions about the wine - and the country!
________________________

You’ll have your choice of a THREE or FOUR bottle package - curated from a selection of small, family estate producers - exceptional wines from small out-of-the-way winemakers from a small, out-of-the-way country.

Meisha: Perfect way to start Valentines day!

Metin: Thank you all so much for doing this! Wonderful wines and conversations, so enjoyable! France was so nice to visit, where do we go next?

Liesl: This has been delightful and would love to do again. Small, unique, educational.

Lance: Thank you so much for this. The wines
are delicious and the commentary has been great!

Norman: Loved the Pet Nat and the Rouge has a really nice bouquet and the low tannins are so appreciated.

Just a few of the comments we received about Sunday's International Valentine's 'Brunch' and Wine Tasting with the Winemaker/Owner Andrè Tremblay of Domaine Du Tix Winery in the South of France. He introduced us not only to his winery and the region, but also to three delectable wines. Guests had the opportunity to hear about the wine process at his boutique organic winery, and then to taste three distinctly different wines. Thank you Andre, and all of you who attended.

We're planning the next 'brunch' soon - stay tuned!
