CALLING ALL PEACEFUL WARRIORS - Come Together Against Hate

On Friday, August 25th at 6pm, we welcome our community of Peaceful Warriors to come together in honor of unity, togetherness, and love and against racism, divisiveness, and hatred.

In light of the horrific displays of racism and hatred in Charlottesville, BBCC will holding space for an open community conversation to address responses, reactions, feelings, emotions, and plans of action.

Following our discussion, we will hold a workshop where we use the power of movement to work together towards collective healing.

Mestre Amen will lead an Afro-Brazilian Dance workshop following the conversation where we can collectively release emotions and energies built up during our discussion.

This is an OPEN and FREE public event. Any donations collected will be given in support to an organization of our choosing (to be announced this week) to directly aid in efforts righting racism and white supremacy.

** It is our continued responsibility to stand together as a community of united Peaceful Warriors, not just in light of recent displays of hatred, but as an ongoing force against CENTURIES of oppression and divisiveness.***

Our hearts are with the victims of Charlottesville.

Here is a little about one of Mestre Amen's favorite percussive instrument
🔹🔺🔹🔻🔹🔺🔹🔻🔹🔺🔹
The Timbau is a membranophone instrument derived from the Caxambu drum. Slightly conical and of varying sizes, it is usually light in weight and made of lacquered wood or metal with a tunable nylon head. The drum is most often found in Bahia, originating in Salvador, Bahia, and is used mainly to play Axé and Samba-reggae. They are played in a similar manner to the Atabaque, another hand drum a version of which had been brought to Brazil in slavery and is used in Candomblé rituals. In the 1980s, a music/social movement was organized to bring the Timbal to popular music.

We were planning to do this trip before the ZIKA breakout and thought it would be wise to cancel it. We are not sure yet what to do. The purpose of this post was to check if people/families are still interested in spite of the virus. I am doing some research and would love your findings as well. This trip is VERY open to families. If there really is an interest, I will gather more information as far as pricing and dates ASAP.
