Script Supervising Awards

Script Supervising Awards An online awards "show" for script supervisors After the Oscars, Globes, and SAG Awards are handed out on TV, and then in non-televised awards shows, the WGA, DGA, ASC, Costumers Guild, Editors Guild, Sound Editors, and countless other groups have handed out their awards, there still remain hundreds of crew members working in jobs that receive no recognition during awards season, other than the generic "thanks to the crew" that some winners are decent enough to shout out.

This page is for the script supervisors who have helped guide award-winning films from the set, to the editing room, to the big screen.

The 2020 Script Supervising Awards:
Emmy Winners!

Congratulations to all of the script supervisors who worked on Emmy winning TV shows this year.

So many shows, so many awards, so many script supervisors. With more and more shows hiring more than one of us, there were way too many to fit onto one poster. Had to do 4 this year. To view the posters, click on the main one below and click the right & left arrows to see all 4. To maximize any of them, right click on it, select "Open Image in New Tab," go to the new Tab, and the cursor should now be a plus sign, which will blow up the photo to full size.

The 2020 Script Supervising Awards: Emmy Nominees Edition

We’re back!

As it’s been a while, and we have some new honorees this year, it’s time to repeat our Mission Statement.

“After the Oscars, Globes and Emmy Awards are handed out on TV, and countless other groups do their televised and non-televised ceremonies, there still remain hundreds of crew members working in jobs that receive no recognition during awards season, other than a generic "thanks to the crew" some winners are decent enough to shout out. This is for the Script Supervisors who helped guide award-winning (and nominated) films & TV shows from the set to the editing room to the screen.”

The Emmy Awards honor the best in television, and being television, there are a lot of categories. So many that they can't fit them all into one night, hence the untelevised awards being handed out this week, before the big show on Sunday. Lots of categories means lots of shows, which means lots of script supervisors.

This isn't the Oscars with their wimpy 24 awards. With this announcement, we honor the 200 script supervisors who worked on 219 shows that received 650+ nominations for 119 Emmys. No, the math doesn't add up because 102 nominated shows did not use a script supervisor. (Documentaries, reality, sports, news, etc.)

A note regarding criteria and inclusion: We here at the Script Supervising Awards make no distinction whether you were the full-time script supervisor, 2nd unit, or just filled in for a day. If you set foot on the set of one of the nominated shows, you’re on the list. I only worked for 3 hours on the pilot episode of Euphoria, but I'm obnoxious enough to include myself on their nominations. :)

If you worked on one of the nominees and are not on the list, it’s because you didn’t update your IMDB profile. If this is you, send me a note and I’ll correct your profile and add you to the list. But please, everyone, learn to keep your IMDB up to date.

I like to bring attention to those of us who worked on more than one nominated show.

This year’s Emmiest Script Supervisors, with FOUR nominated shows each:

The Script Supervising Awards Bonus Episode, part 2: The Razzie Winners

While the Razzie Awards Show was cancelled due to the Coronavirus, the winners were announced via press release and we have them, along with the esteemed script supervisors who tried their best but could not save these cinematic masterpieces from shooting themselves in the foot. Again, I must stress that a film's inclusion in these awards is no reflection on the script supervisor, nor anyone on the crew. In fact, most of my fellow crew mates love being able to say they worked on a Razzie winner. It's become a badge of honor.

Special Yin & Yang Shoutout to Paula Casarin, for script supervising this year's Oscar-winning Judy as well as multiple Razzie winner Cats.

The Script Supervising Awards: Bonus Episode: The Razzie Nominees

Reminding us to not take this job and business so seriously, the Razzies have once again "honored" the worst movies and performances of the year.

I must add (every time) that a film being nominated for a Razzie is in no way a reflection on the script supervisor. In fact, every year we have a few script supervisors who worked on a Razzie and an Oscar nominee. This year we have six!

My dear friend Dawn Gilliam not only script supervised Oscar nominee Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, she also script supervised Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Razzie nominee for Worst Remake or Sequel.

Also in the Double Trouble Club:
Paula Casarin script supervised Oscar nominee Judy and Razzie disaster Cats.

Renee Burke script supervised Joker (nominated for 11 Oscars) AND a Razzie (Hustlers), nominated for the one positive Razzie: The Redeemer Award. Joker was also nominated for a Razzie for Most Reckless Disregard for Human Life and Public Property.

Rebecca Sheridan worked on Oscar nominees 1917 and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and then Razzie Redeemer nominee John Wick 3.

Rachel Slansky script supervised Toy Story 4, nominated for an Oscar and a Razzie Redeemer Award

Sasha Vitelli worked on Oscar nominee Marriage Story as well as Razzie Redeemer nominee Uncut Gems.

As the 2020 awards season comes to a close, as usual we end with the big one. The Academy Awards. But before we learn who the Oscar winning script supervisors are, we will honor the nominees tonight.
