Growing up in the San Fernando Valley in LA, Kenny Scharf's quintessential Jewish family placed importance on tradition and middle class values. His parents supported his interest in art from a young age, taking him to visit museums and galleries.

When Scharf arrived in New York City in the early 1980s, he quickly befriended Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. This trio, amongst the fervent creative bustle of a depressed downtown scene, would soon take the art world by storm. While Basquiat and Haring both died tragically young, Scharf lived through cataclysmic shifts in the East Village as well as the ravages of AIDS and economic depression.

'When Worlds Collide' is about the art of fun, about living life out loud, despite setbacks, and about Kenny Scharf’s particular do-it- yourself, high-tone, technicolor artistic vision. Scharf currently lives in LA and you can see his street murals in West Hollywood and citywide. He has exhibited worldwide and recent exhibitions include the Hammer Museum, MOCA, Pasadena Art Museum, Nassau County Museum of Art in NY and others. He is currently working with Dior on an exclusive line of clothing.

'When Worlds Collide' is about Kenny Scharf’s particular do-it-yourself, high-tone, technicolor artistic vision and was filmed over 11 years by his daughter Malia Scharf and co-director, Max Basch. The filmmaking team captures testimonials mixed with rare archival footage of Scharf and other icons of pop art, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Keith Haring. Interviews with Ed Ruscha, Dennis Hopper, Yoko Ono and others make this a must watch film for anyone who has heard of the street graffiti artist Bansky and wants to know more about the history behind street art and pop culture.

About Dior and Kenny Scharf’s Influence in Fashion:
Poised between utopianism and cosmic travel, Dior's petites mains collection is influenced by Kenny Scharf’s* hypnotic work. Designs by Kim Jones are distinctive for their luminous vitality, they are a symbol of pure joie de vivre. The American artist’s paintings – such as Viva Mare Viva Mar, When the Worlds Collide and Globo Mundo – are transposed onto precious brocade, Chinese seed-stitch embroidery, or prints combined with fringe or metallic threads, creating statement pieces and dazzling total looks. Such technical feats attest to the excellence of Dior's petites mains. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGmaT6RGg_s

#BREAKING
Actor George Segal, who’s been on “The Goldbergs” for all eight seasons, died today at the age of 87. In a statement, his wife said it was due to complications from bypass surgery.
Before “The Goldbergs,” he enjoyed a long run on the sitcom, “Just Shoot Me!”
Of course, Segal also had a successful career in movies. Among them: “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” “Where’s Poppa?,” “The Owl and The Pussycat,” “A Touch of Class,” “The Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox,” “Fun With Dick and Jane,” “Look Who’s Talking,” “For The Boys” and many others.
What a talent. I interviewed him a few times over the years. He was a very nice man and just naturally funny. May he R.I.P.
