Though not part of the festival, here's another great Spanish film screening to be held at UCLA this week!

Please join us on Thursday, May 9, at 7:30pm in the fabulous Darren Star Screening Room (Melnitz 1422) for a special, one-night screening of Spanish director Jaime Chávarri's 1976 cult documentary, El desencanto (The Disenchantment)! The event is co-sponsored by the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, the Center for European and Russian Studies, and the Department of Film, Television, and Digital Media.

Aaron Shulman, author of the new book The Age of Disenchantments: The Epic Story of Spain's Most Notorious Literary Family and the Long Shadow of the Spanish Civil War (Ecco/Harper Collins, 2019), will introduce the film and join us for a post-screening discussion. A reception with hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will round out the event.

Seats are limited, so do be sure to mark it in your calendars and arrive early.

Thank you to all who attended yesterday's screenings of Los eternos indocumentados, Reencuentros: 2501 migrantes, and Bienvenido Mister Kaita!

Today is the last day of the festival! We will begin with an afternoon screening of two films about LGBTQ identity. This is a double feature session that takes place in YRL. The first film is Aurora Guerrero's Mosquita y Mari (USA 2012). This screening will begin at 12pm and will be held in the YRL Research classroom (Room 11630F). Immediately afterward, we move over to the YRL Presentation Room, where we will be serving Mexican food to enjoy during the second screening, Arantxa Echevarría's Carmen y Lola (Spain, 2018), which begins at 2pm. Following Carmen y Lola, there will be a Q&A session on both films with members of the Chicana/o Studies, LBGTQ Studies, and Gender Studies faculty.

Tonight’s closing night celebration features Juliana Rojas and Marco Dutra's As boas maneiras (Brazil, 2017), followed by a Q&A session with Juliana. This session will take place in the James Bridges Theater, with a light reception at 6:30pm and the screenings beginning at 7:30pm.
