For three years every Thursday El Cid turned into a h***y tonk for bands, songwriters and musical instigators tearing it up in outlaw country, roots, old time and Americana territory. HTH became a central part of the roots community in LA and had shows at several other venues as well. Now we're taking a break, but will continue to post videos and photos from past shows as we prepare for new events on the horizon. Thank you for all the love and support!

Entirely tragic heartbreaking news. Porter was scheduled to play HTH here this summer, but because of shows being cancelled due to my condition, I had to cancel. He couldn't have been nicer or more forgiving about it. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

HTH is taking a long break after two final shows Oct 6 and our 3rd Anniversary Show Nov 3. After three years and 125 incredible shows, I need to take care of myself. I've been suffering from a joint condition this year that's been very painful and debilitating. It's exacerbated a great deal by stress. I haven't shared much about it because, frankly, I was expecting it to go away, but it hasn't yet. And as much as I love doing these shows, they are stressful to curate, promote and run. I am getting excellent care via an angel acupuncture doc, but I need to take as much stress as I can off my plate at the moment. Once this flare subsides, I hope to be back with more fantastic shows. Thank you everyone for your unending support of me, live music, and HTH, and thank you for your understanding!

It was a huge honor indeed to host the great Rosie Flores at HTH last Thursday! It was a tremendous night of music with a good dose of dancing, seeing old and new friends, and listening to some songs from Rosie's latest blues album she's working on. Ben Bostick Music stirred whoops and cheers for his excellent new songs as well. And Just Dave Band made a sizable crop of new fans from the full crowd who clearly appreciated good music. Our friend Travis Stevens of The Kenneth Brian Band -- playing this week's H***y Tonk Hacienda -- joined Rosie for a few songs too! A night of barn dance worthy fun all around. One fan even told me that he arranges his regular business trips to LA from DC on Thursdays just so he can come to HTH! Wow … that made my night even more happy.

Saddest song ever …
Grammy winner Jason Isbell has written plenty of songs with dark themes, but until now, he had never written the saddest song ever.
Last night's excellent set from OCHA LA ROCHA dovetails nicely with this nice pick to be included in the best TV soundtracks of 2015. An Ocha song was featured in the hit new series Jessica Jones.

Did this all really happen??? YES! There are photos and videos on my iPhone, so I conclude it is not a magical dream, but a magical reality! I'm still in happy shock! Yes the secret special surprise guest at H***y Tonk Hacienda's special Valentine's Saturday show last night was none other than The Mavericks! Yes that's right The Mavericks! Blazing the entire town from the El Cid stage - on the heels of their two Grammy Award nominations - they thrilled every heart and shimmied every shake.
This unprecedented honor capped an already blistering show. El Twanguero knocked dancers into frenzies, music lovers into passionate faints, and strangers into best friends. The Mavericks - so impressed by what they'd just witnessed - brought El Twanguero up to instantly become an extra Maverick.
El Cid was full from the start as Jeff West and The Witwoods had people dancing from their first song. The crowd of fans cheered their new crop of Buddy Holly-esque songs for modern life.
Everyone had a blast the whole night! I heard never ending thank yous. "Best $10 I've spent in years and years!"
My own never ending thank yous go out to the incredibly generous Mavericks! Especially angel magician Shilah Morrow and gracious exceptional star Raul Malo!! Standing ovation! A spectacular way to start off HTH's first night of El Twanguero's February residency! It was a stunning night all around. The Ventucky String Band started off with songs new and old all seeped in the early days of country and bluegrass. Tiny & Mary then brought tears to eyes with their treasure of sad songs and brilliant talent. Then El Twanguero leapt on stage and ripped off the roof with his fire licks, hip shaking groove, and playful incorporation of influences from Spanish guitar to old time pedal steel tunes to h***y tonk ditties from Bakersfield. Phenomenal night! Make sure you're at HTH next SATURDAY Feb 13 for the next very special night!
