We have lost someone important in our community today. We are saddened by the passing of Timothy Ray Brown. Our hearts go out to his friends and family.⠀

It is with a profoundly heavy heart that IAS – the International AIDS Society – today mourns the passing of Timothy Ray Brown, the first person to be cured of HIV.
Though this year was different and we couldn't all be together for a physical AIDS Walk LA, we still felt the spirit! Thank you to one of our Star Walkers, Danielle Ramos, for continuing the tradition and doing your own, safe Walk around your neighborhood for #AWLA2020. 💪👟❤️
Participants and Walkers, you all are the reason APLA Health can provide services to our clients and help make a difference in the community!
APLA Health
Let's talk about HIV. Let's stop HIV.
In LA Country, gay and bisexual men still make up the majority of new HIV transmission. But we can stop this; we have the tools. With PrEP, we can prevent new transmissions, and with proper medical care, we can get people living with HIV to detectable viral loads, which will also stop new transmissions.
Reach out to APLA Health today and learn how about all the tools you can use to help end an epidemic.
Thank you Walkers for sticking with us this year even though we couldn't physically be together! The Walk may be over, but APLA Health’s mission continues all year long. ✊
We can’t wait to keep building on the momentum from #AWLA2020 and look forward to expressing our gratitude in person when it’s safe. 👟🖱❤

Today is #NationalHIVAIDSAndAgingAwarenessDay and an important reminder of why we walk every year. We walk not only to end the epidemic, but to end the stigma and empower those living with HIV.
We are here to grow with you! ✊❤️
#NHAAD is always a significant day for us. We've been working with and caring for people living with HIV for nearly 40 years now, so we know first-hand how important it is to provide support to the aging population. We're here to improve the health and well-being of this group by addressing stigma, social isolation, social support, and empowerment.

AIDS Walk Los Angeles officially logs off today. It’s been an incredible experience seeing all you’ve done to support HIV health services during a time when Angelenos need you more than ever. We are truly inspired by the dedication of the individuals and teams who came together to Get With the Programs. 👟🖱️❤️
The Walk may be over, but APLA Health’s mission continues all year long. We can’t wait to keep building on the momentum from #AWLA2020 and look forward to expressing our gratitude in person when it’s safe. Thank you from Team AIDS Walk! 🥳❤️
Thank you Lois Perilman for being a Star Walker!!!!
In 1985, the world's first AIDS Walk took place on the Paramount Pictures studio lot and this year Richard Garcia went back to that original route. Thank you, so much for your support, Richard. You're a STAR!!!
This year’s AIDS Walk LA has exceeded our wildest expectations. In just 24 hours, our community has raised $50,000!!! Imagine what we can do in the next 24 hours. We’ve surpassed our original goal and we’re SO CLOSE - only another $50k away - to $950,000. #AWLA2020
Looking to make a last-minute difference for your fundraising and for 18,000 people living with HIV in LA County. Try this donation idea: This weekend, donate $1 dollar every hour, on the hour. This way not an hour goes by that we don’t get closer to ending the HIV epidemic! 👟🖱️❤️
AIDS Walk 2020 ends TOMORROW, so time is literally of the essence! Donate your $1/hour here: https://loom.ly/5frYoWE
Can you believe it’s already the final Friday of #AWLA2020!? 👟❤️🖱️
Today we want to talk about the future, specifically the new APLA Health center opening next year on the campus of Charles R. Drew University. Our new location will give the community access to primary medical, dental and behavioral health care, HIV prevention and support services, STD screenings and treatment. It will also be a training ground for CDU students to get hands on experience in healthcare and advance their knowledge of LGBTQ+ affirming care.
Thank you Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager for your support of #AWLA2020! We appreciate what you do for our community. 👟❤️
With only a couple of days left of AIDS Walk LA 2020, how are you finishing up in this homestretch? Share a photo with us and use the hashtag #AWLA2020! 📸
Be careful this weekend! 🔥 Wildfires surrounding Los Angeles are bringing in smoke and ash to the area. In addition to following COVID-19 safety precautions, if you smell smoke or see ash due to a wildfire, limit your exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed or seeking alternate shelter and avoiding vigorous physical activity. For more tips on protecting yourself during a wildfire, see South Coast AQMD’s Wildfire Smoke & Ash Health & Safety Tips page: https://loom.ly/P1_MXLE
Let’s check in with our Top Walker leaderboard heading into the final few days of #AWLA2020! 🏆❤️

"Fundraise. Donate. End AIDS. Don't wait!" 👏👏
Thank you to Cheer Los Angeles for you constant support and always participating in AIDS Walk LA every year. #AWLA2020 may look different this year, but we still have our strong energy to continue the fight to end the AIDS epidemic. 💪👟❤️
We’ve always been ambitious! In 1983, APLA Health launched one of the nation’s first AIDS hotlines, initially housed in an old closet, with all that we knew about the new disease – a single page of facts and resources on a clipboard. Our early mission was to educate our community with factual, up-to-date information about AIDS. For nearly 4 decades, we’ve relied on support from people like you to help us eliminate disparities in healthcare through education. 📖👟❤️
Help us further our mission beyond #AWLA2020 by donating during this final week push: https://loom.ly/kncnyOk
The finish line is in sight! 🏁👟❤️
The 8 week #AWLA2020 sprint has been amazing, and by Getting With the Programs, you’re helping APLA Health do vital work for at-risk communities all year long. Make that final fundraising push by September 13 and let’s close this year off right! 🖱️
Seven weeks down, one more digital week to walk! You’re absolutely crushing it for Care, Support and Education programs this year, but the work’s not over quite yet.
AIDS Walk 2020 ends this Sunday, and there’s good reason to keep asking for donations: our top Walkers will get a special shoutout on AWLA social media after the Walk! So dig in, reach out to your network and let’s squeeze every last drop of success out of your amazing efforts in #AWLA2020! 🖱️❤️👟
In this final week of #AWLA2020, donate to help us reach more Angelenos in need of mental health services to stay clean and stay safe. Substance abuse can increase engagement in sexual risk behaviors among those who use. APLA Health’s Party Wise program aims to reduce the risk of HIV transmission and social isolation caused by crystal meth through community events and health navigation sessions.

- Set up a donation jar in front of your house and encourage neighbors to contribute on their daily walks.👟
- If you’ve already hit Star Walker status ($1,000), share the love and donate $1 to someone who is SO CLOSE to their goal! 🏆💪
Your health depends on having a home that is safe and free from physical hazards. With COVID-19 placing so many Angelenos out of work and unable to pay rent, APLA Health has been working to make sure people living with HIV are able to keep a roof over their heads and stay in care. 🏘️❤️
Donate to help our housing specialists continue to help meet this critical need and alleviate the burden of housing anxiety.
The AWLA finish line is next Sunday, but you’re not slowing down! The funds you raise during the home stretch are critical in creating better health outcomes for people living with HIV all year long. Download our fundraising graphics to show your network that you’re picking up speed at the right time! 👟💪❤️

Blocking new HIV infections is how we will end this epidemic together! Unfortunately, PrEP usage by eligible candidates is only 25% - and lower still among African-American and Latino gay and bisexual men.
Your donations help APLA Health’s PrEP navigator program increase access to this life-saving and world-changing treatment in underserved communities.
Edward has walked and volunteered with us before, but this year he donated $1k himself! 👟🖱️❤️
“It is my pleasure, obligation, and deepest motivation to help APLA Health in any way that I can. This year is no different. We can still give with our hearts, give with our souls, give for those living with HIV, and give for those that are no longer with us except in our thoughts and prayers. I hope you’ll join me in supporting this organization that helps so many people.”
Follow Edward’s lead and donate today! Every dollar gets us one closer. Remember: AWLA20 ends September 13!
We’ve been fighting apathy for a long time. While today the world’s attention is rightly focused on stopping COVID-19, we also can’t let up in the fight against HIV, hepatitis C, and STDs. APLA Health is working with state officials to increase education, resources and funding around ending ALL epidemics in California. 📖 ❤️

AIDS Walk Los Angeles is the world’s first walk to fight an epidemic.
Since our founding in 1985, the purpose of AIDS Walk Los Angeles has been to raise funds for APLA Health (formerly AIDS Project Los Angeles) and other HIV/AIDS health and support organizations in the county. We use the event to organize communities, educate and bring awareness to HIV/AIDS, reduce HIV stigma, and to overall end the epidemic. Our clients at APLA Health are low-income and struggle not only with HIV/AIDS, but also face other significant challenges including finding secure housing, affordable food or health coverage; AIDS Walk Los Angeles funds allow us to supplement our 20 diverse programs across 16 locations, including 3 Federally Qualified Health Centers.
