Sri Lanka corrals Beach clean-up machinery to get rid of X-Press Pearl plastic nurdles…

With the wreckage of the Singaporean ship X-Press Pearl in the Western sea of Sri Lanka, massive environmental damage was caused to the Sri Lankan Western coast as well the marine environment. As a measure taken by the Singaporean-based global non-profit, the Alliance donated eight (08) Beach Tech Hydro Sweepy beach cleaning machinery worth about US$ 180,000 to the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) of Sri Lanka.

Those Beach Tech Hydro Sweepy beach cleaning machines are made of German technology are capable of cleaning up plastic nurdles and other types of waste. The clean-up process in a safe manner reducing human exposure to hazardous materials is another advantage of the equipment.
Yet, it is still questionable whether the damage caused to the marine environment is reversible.

Sri Lanka claims to be the first in whole South Asia to launch a Submarine Cable protection and Resilience Framework…

With the aid of the Japanese government mediated through the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Sri Lanka launched the Submarine Cable Protection and Resilience Framework. This is crucial to Sri Lanka, as things have changed with the new age of lockdowns, remote working, and virtual conferences have come on to the stage. the community is hugely relying on digital communication. Currently, over 99% of all international data and communications are transferred via a network of more than 400 cables, which span a distance of more than 1.8 million km across the world’s oceans. With the global pandemic situation, inclining towards remote work, remote education, and remote personal video communications.

Thus, more resilience and protection are required, understanding the pros and cons and responsibilities of having several cables running through its jurisdiction. And also, it was remarked by the telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Director Oshada Dissanayake, this framework would contribute to Sri Lanka ‘s overall image, projecting the country as a maritime and logistics hub in the Indian ocean.

Deobox becomes Sri Lanka’s first-ever online subscription business…

Deobox, Sri Lanka’s first-ever online subscription business was started in 2019 with the basic intention to butter up Sri Lankans who sought good quality original deodorant products. With the success they have reached now they are looking forward to entering the UK market in the hope to cajole the global clients who are seeking to purchase original and globally recognized deodorant brands on a subscription basis.

The concept of Deobox is the overture of the co-founders Binara Sakalasuriya and Sudara Melvin. But following Binara’s exit in October 2020, Kasin Perera took over the place, joining Sudara Melvin. And Deshan Perera supports the duo for the team’s marketing process as a Digital Marketing Consultant.

Currently, Sudara and Kashin are aiming to expand their company’s portfolio within the next few months without restricting into deodorants alone, but including razors, shampoo, cosmetics for the men and women as well sanitary products. Via Deobox, the current customers can purchase original products from Adidas, Nike, Wild Stone, Fogg, Old Spice, Yardley, Denim, and more. The subscription packages are conceptualized as Deobox for Him and Deobox for Her and start from Rs. 850.

The founders even have taken measures for the sustainability of their business by pulling out single-use plastic and going for reusable corrugated boxes instead.Let’s hail these budding entrepreneurs from Sri Lanka to chase their aspirations and reach the pinnacle of their success.
