Music for Seniors presents Kelle Jolly at Knoxville Museum of Art

Music for Seniors is dear to my heart. This is a wonderful program and any senior or Chilhowee Club member that can make this concert should definitely do it. Sarah started this program with her mother when her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers. Her mother helped her build the program and later music was her peace.

Now that they are in Knoxville, they will be planning events and can also help plan events at nursing homes, assisted living, and Alzheimer units. Please contact me if you are interested in learning more.

One century ago, women still lacked this right.

”In every crisis there is a message. Crises are nature’s way of forcing change — breaking down old structures, shaking loose negative habits so that something new and better can take their place.” ~ Susan L. Taylor

After 27 years as the chief editor of Essence magazine and the visionary credited with building the brand, Susan L. Taylor left publishing to devote her life to building an organization that is devoted to breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty among African Americans. The National CARES Mentoring Movement is that organization: a community transformation crusade dedicated to “changing the predictable futures defined for our young who are struggling along the margins and living with the indignity of poverty,” she says

Book Susan L. Taylor to speak at your next event. Contact APB Speakers for bio, videos, topics, and to inquire about speaking fees and availability.

One thing that education can do is it can provide us with an opportunity to understand one another better, and so while I've spent a lot of my time in the world of politics, I've always felt that it is really not politics that will solve this for us. ~ Condoleezza Rice

Fran Estes Leonard: Chilhowee Club was delighted to donate 20 willow oak trees to Habitat for Humanity’s current project in Alcoa. Twenty homes will be built on the new Spurlock Circle named after Dr. Jeanne Spurlock. Environment/conservation is one of our club’s five main focus areas, and some of us were able to spend this morning planting these beautiful trees. Many thanks to Sharon Sweetser Pound and Doug Jenkins for organizing it! At 129 yrs old, Chilhowee Club is the 2nd oldest women’s club in TN with 95 active members ranging in age from 23 to 103. 🌳

Chilhowee Club Christmas social was a wonderful event! We celebrated members Mary McKinnon, Dorothy Crawford, and Hilda Walker who all have over 50 years involvement in Chilhowee Club. We also installed new officers. Soprano Kristi Burkhalter provided us with moving holiday song.
On Monday, December 10, six members of Chilhowee Club’s ESO group enjoyed lunch at Aubrey’s in Maryville. Sue Gibbens, Jamey Daly, Elaine Kant, Barbara Steverson, Marge Bogert and Martha Cobb spent a couple of hours socializing, working on next years schedule and wishing Barbara Steverson good luck as she moves to Florida next year. We will miss her and all the wonderful books she has given to the members over the past couple of years. It was good to welcome Martha Cobb who took time out of her busy schedule to join us for lunch. Marge Bogert gave out copies of the reporting form and reminded members that the deadline for reporting is February 1. There is no meeting scheduled for January. Happy New Year from ESO.
