How I’ll Be Predicting the Oscars for Variety (Column)

Like many, we always look forward to hearing/reading what Clayton Davis has to to say about films and the people that make them.
We'll miss AwardsCircuit, but are delighted for Clayton as he starts his new job at Variety -- and we know we'll be able
to keep getting the benefit of his insights and predictions. And as the saying goes, "they couldn't have picked a nicer person."

MFF 2020 Update!

Dear MFF Filmgoers and Friends,
Thank you for your patience while we have been figuring out our options for this year’s festival. Everyone’s health and safety during these uncertain and challenging times have been paramount in our planning.

We are pleased to announce that MFF2020 will be a virtual (online) festival COMBINED with outdoor, socially-distanced screenings. Our outdoor, evening film screenings will include at least one drive-in AND a large screen on the grand lawn of the Salamander Resort in Middleburg. Both our virtual and outdoor screenings will feature the carefully curated slate that our filmgoers have come to expect — including “Oscar buzz” films, international features, independent gems and fascinating documentaries.

We will be hosting numerous exclusive conversations and tributes with both legendary and “breakthrough” actors, leading filmmakers, and special guests from all over the world. Other highlights include our signature concert honoring a renowned film composer, virtual and in-person wine tastings at Greenhill and Boxwood Wineries, post-screening live Q & A’s, and a virtual festival lounge where you can meet and compare notes about films. Stay tuned for more details and sneak peaks of the program coming soon!

Advance ticket packages (including a variety of pass options and group discounts) will go on sale on September 8 from our website middleburgfilm.org. Individual tickets will go on sale when the schedule is announced at the beginning of October. Please check the MFF website, mobile app and social media @MiddleburgFilm for updates.
Lastly, we want to thank you for all your support during these difficult times. We’ve heard from many of you who care deeply about the festival and are very much looking forward to attending, either virtually or in-person. We know you’ll enjoy this year’s films, conversations, and special events — and we think you’ll also be excited with some of our new plans.

We look forward to seeing you at the movies— either online or in Middleburg, safely socially-distanced.

Best,
Sheila Johnson (MFF Founder & Board Chair)
Susan Koch (MFF Executive Director)

New Industrywide Theater-Safety Plan Launches with Acknowledgment: ‘Going to the Movies Is Not Risk-Free’

According to infectious disease specialist Dr. Joyce Sanchez, "there is a “high probability” that theater-going presents no greater risk than dining at a restaurant"

The key of course is wearing masks and social distancing and good ventilation.

With plans for indoor-air quality, mask-wearing, and social distancing, NATO hopes a united front will help encourage a return to theatergoing. Here are all the details, including an assessment of risk.

This looks like such a cool film festival with some really amazing titles included! I love supporting independent filmmakers, so I thought I would add to the page by sharing my latest discovery, Empathy, Inc. by Yedidya Gorsetman. It is a sci-fi thriller that follows the story of a virtual reality startup gone awry and it is chock-full of some truly dark elements. These include the all black and white coloring and suspenseful editing, I would definitely recommend! If anyone is interested it is out on VOD now.
‘Two Popes’ wins Audience Award at Middleburg Film Festival; Could a Best Picture Oscar nomination be next?
Any chance you can confirm that tickets are still going on sale today? If it's going to be Wednesday, a time would be most appreciated. Like many people, I've been sitting at my computer all day and I'm really excited to attend.
Why can’t I buy ticket online for the 19th for Maggie Gyllenhaal venue???? It indicates that buying is on pause..
Hello fellow film lovers, 'treat yo-self" to a might night and watch "Madame"! This hilarious drama comedy had me rollin' with the crazy situation Maria (Rossy De Palma) got in after her madam, Anne (Toni Collette), forced her to be a dinner guest. It's out on VOD so you should totally see it ;D http://geni.us/Madame
Who were the audience winners at the festival this weekend?
A friend ended up not being able to come with me to the festival so I now have a bunch of individual tickets I'd like to sell off because I really don't want them to go to waste. I have: Call Me By Your Name - Friday 10:30 am *Happy End - Friday 7:30 pm Call Me By Your Name - Saturday 5:15 pm Loveless - Saturday 8 pm Three Billboards - Sunday 10:30 am *Lady Bird - Sunday 1:45 pm I, Tonya - Sunday 4 pm *these shows are sold out according to ticket distributor
so an unexpected scheduling issue came up and now I have a ticket for Call Me By Your Name on Friday 10/20 that I can't use. I'll sell it for the discounted $10 price if anyone is interested.
Using my iPhone I purchased my first ticket last night (Tuesday) before going into a 7pm meeting. Once out of the meeting I tried to resume purchasing more but am unable to get a response from the “Buy Tickets” fields on the screens of my iPhone or iPad. Is there a Box Office where I can go in the morning (Weds) to make these purchases? Many thanks!
Problems with schedule. Meltdown moved from master schedule where it was at 10:30 to 3:oo on Sat where it is supposedly being shown at the same time and place as faces places. What gives?
I think we have gone a bit overboard 😳with our tickets
