Good news from the West Michigan Mountain Biking Alliance (WMMBA) on The Dragon Fundraiser. If you can contribute, that would be much appreciated. This trail is already a blast and will make for an amazing 47-mile one-day ride, bikepack, race, etc. some day soon!

Look at this progress report on The Dragon Fundraiser. You folks are truly amazing. We can't thank you enough!

As we move closer to our goal we'd like to offer WMMBA swag giveaways for those who donate to the fundraiser. People who donate will be tossed in the hat and randomly selected for prizes! Shirts, pint glasses and buffs are all up for grabs. Each donation counts as an entry.

Again, we thank you for your support. None of this is possible without all of you.

! CALLING ALL MOUNTAIN BIKERS !

We sat down as a board, in the middle of a pandemic that had cancelled all of our revenue-producing events, and had to ask ourselves, "What is the number 1 goal of our organization?" Our answer... "Building more trails."

While we've donated $37,500 to The Dragon thus far, we don't want to stop there. We're launching our Dragon Fundraiser to raise $18,750 to pay for tools, winter grooming equipment and fuel, kiosk and signage, and most importantly: MORE TRAIL.

Join us on going all in on the Dragon. The first person to donate any amount gets a free WMMBA pint glass.

Become An Ally — West Michigan Mountain Biking Alliance

Some ways to give back to biking this fall for those in West Michigan:
1. Become a member of the West Michigan Mountain Biking Alliance (WMMBA), just $40, or give a one-time donation or sponsor as a business. Money goes to building new trails like The Dragon and maintaining all of our other great trails. www.wmmba.org/membership
2. Attend the Luton Park Halloween Ride on Oct. 31, a fundraiser for the new bathrooms/water access. Kids event, Time Trial, Night Ride, all in reverse. www.bikereg.com/wmmba-luton-halloween-2020
3. Support local, pro-biking businesses like Cannonsburg where we ride free of charge. Consider attending their Haunted Forest this fall. www.cannonsburg.com/the-haunted-forest

Consider supporting private landowners like Cannonsburg so we can keep biking on their land!

Sad that we can't race together Saturday but it should be a great day to ride the course on your own or with your social bubble. GPX files and map here: www.lordofthesprings.com/race-info/course. We didn't ask people to gift their entry to help cover race losses - instead, we hope you'll consider becoming a member of the West Michigan Mountain Biking Alliance (WMMBA) or donating to the cause to help fund Yankee Springs, The Dragon and other trail maintenance, build new trails and advocate for protecting trails.

Unfortunately we have not been able to get the permissions and permits to hold the race on Sept. 12, as we informed registered racers yesterday. Everyone who had registered for the race will receive via email a 100% deferment credit to race in 2021 or 2022 (or use toward Coast to Coast or any Michigan Adventure Race). We hope you'll still get out onto the Yankee Springs singletrack and Barry County gravel roads and enjoy the grit and gravel, race or not. Can't wait for 2021!

We're staying in limbo land for now regarding the 37, 24, and 9-mile races scheduled for September 12. If you can do the limbo with us, great. If you decide to defer, just hold tight and we'll email you a deferment credit for next year when we determine go/no go. www.lordofthesprings.com

We're still planning on the race. September 12 is a ways off. We'll abide by the requirements and recommendations from state and local decision makers and health experts. And space you out as needed. Chip timing helps! If we can't race, you'll receive a 100% credit good for 2021 or 2022 for any of our bike or adventure races. www.lordofthesprings.com

Volunteers Needed

We can't start digging just yet, but there are several jobs we can get started with, including a strider loop, clearing the trail and bridge building. Much of this can be done independently or in small groups. If you are able to help, message us your email so that we can include you in our volunteer distribution list. We are looking to get started this weekend.

Thanks to sponsor West Michigan Bike & Fitness for supporting our races. Please consider supporting them now that they are offering curbside service and pickups. See below for details.

We're back in (limited)business TODAY! After looking into the latest Executive Order and seeing the League of Michigan Bicyclists interpretation of it, we will be opening for low to no contact curbside pickup on everything we sell as well as curbside drop off for service, but our showrooms will remain closed. We will make sure to have someone outside at all times to greet you from a socially acceptable distance and help get you taken care of, but for sales would encourage you to call ahead for a phone consultation before coming down for the best experience possible. Our Kentwood and Grandville stores will be open 10-4 Monday-Saturday and Holland will be open 10-4 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We look forward to hearing from you soon!...and maybe even seeing you.

Sign up for the 2020 Michigan Gravel Race Series. Racing in a series gives you extra motivation and a shot at some sweet swag. You'll need to complete Lord of the Springs (long or short course) and 3 additional long or short courses events to qualify. See below for details.

It's a new year and that means new goals! Whether you're a first time gravel rider or an ultra-distance hardcore we've got a series for you. Chose from the Cinnaire Short course series and dip your toes in or go for the Q and M Ultra course series and stack up those miles. Signing up for the series will give you that extra bit of motivation that comes in handy from time to time. You'll need to complete 4 of the long or short course races to qualify for standings or 3 of the ultra course events if that's your poison. Things like bonus points, smaller events and just showing up come into play at the end of the season. So what's it going to be?!

It's a good thing to blend in some fun, non-bike workouts into your training. Good for your body, good to avoid burnout. We put on the Michigan Adventure Race: Winter Edition in late January each year. How does this race work? You and your teammates get a map and list of checkpoints (CPs) at check-in and will plan a route to try to get as many CPs as you can in the 3-hour time limit. All are optional. You'll also find 5-7 not-too-difficult mental or physical challenges worth an extra point. If there's enough snow, one of the challenges will be a short snowshoe loop and we will provide the snowshoes. This race is all on foot and most people hike a lot of it (especially if there's snow!) so no pressure to always be running. We'll celebrate with a Honey Creek Inn chili lunch, awards, and raffle.
