We had an interesting phenomenon here at Summer Hideaway last night. A couple of hundred Nighthawks were swarming over the park swooping up and down around the center park. They apparently eat quite a few flying insects each.
I say go Nighthawks!!!
Halloween at Summer Hideaway is swiftly approaching.
If you want to share in the free meal, text Laurie at: 262-308-0612 NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 10th with your RSVP. Add to the text your site number and the number of adults and kids who will be in attendance and the meal preferences.
We look forward to seeing you there. Halloween is always a wonderful fun event to end the season. See the invitation below.
Don’t forget that our local venders will be here selling that wonderful sweet corn on both Friday and Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm. Yum!
Who's that masked man? We got our new Covid-19 Face Masks in this last week. We got them for the resort, the store, and even the bar and grill. They look pretty elegant if I don't say so myself. Just try to look at the mask and not the man behind the mask! :-)
The vendors will be selling corn on the cob, tomatoes, and other veggies again this weekend from 11-1 pm on Friday and Saturday. Come and get it!!!
The corn sellers said that they won't be able to make it this coming weekend the 14th and the 15th. They are going to a wedding. :-(
They did say that they would be back on the 21st and 22nd.
Every Friday and Saturday these local growers come to Summer Hideaway and sell sweet corn and tomatoes. Their sweet corn is infused with honey and it is some of the best I’ve ever eaten.
They set up right across from the office and are there from 11am until 1pm. Come on up and support our local growers. 👍
Summer Hideaway’s very own biker gang getting ready to hit the road on Saturday. I’m jealous!!!!
Kamper Kip is coming to Summer Hideaway this weekend. The entertainment event will take place on Saturday at 3 pm in the field across from the office. Bring you own blankets or chairs and let’s keep our social distances. If you need a mask we will happily provide one.
Kip puts his own lyrics to familiar tunes. Let’s all enjoy a fun event at the resort.
Happy Fourth of July everybody!!!
Laurie decided that we would have Bingo this afternoon in the main pavilion at 3:00 pm. $10 dollars to enter and we'll see how much cheap old Laurie puts in for prize money each game.
See you there!
The Buckhorn Grill and Bar is open and serving the best food ever.
Who is ready for the BEST hand battered fish fry on this side of the lake!?!? Offering Cod, Perch, Walleye, Scallops and Shrimp along with our full menu. Kitchen is open from 4PM - 10PM for dine-in and carry-out. Enjoy our beautiful back deck and pavilion with ample room for social distancing. We have our amazing servers ready to take your order and serve you at your table so you can relax and enjoy this holiday! Call 608-565-2757 for carry-out meals.
We just had a cancellation for this weekend. If anyone wants it give Laurie a call at 608-565-3825
This is the start of the Fourth of July holiday weekend. We are opening the pools for four sessions each day through Sunday. The swimming sessions will be from 10 am - 12 pm; 1 pm - 3 pm; 4 pm - 6 pm; and with the final session from 7 pm - 9 pm. The pools and bathrooms will be closed for a one hour cleaning and disinfecting at 12 pm, 3 pm, 6 pm.
Each swimming session will have a maximum of 60 people. Because of the limited capacity when you sign up you may only sign up for your site. It is not right for people to come up and sign up for multiple sites while other people are in line waiting. The rule will be that you can only sign up for your own family and your site. If other people want to swim with you they need to get in line and sign up just like everyone else.
Because of the number of people who want to swim you cannot come for multiple time slots so choose your times wisely.
The splash pad is open to 25 people at any given time and no wrist bands or sign up is required.
Remember that there are no fireworks allowed at Summer Hideaway at any time and quiet time is from 11:00 pm to 8:00 am. By quiet time we mean keep it on your own site that means noise, kids, dogs, and music.
Everybody have a great fun filled and safe Fourth of July!
No advertising, political, for sale, or temporary signage without prior approval posted on your site
We do not allow signs to be put on your site or on your trailer that is visible to the outside without prior approval from one of the managers. The reason for this post is that some people have approached us about putting up political signs on their site. We do not allow them because we want Summer Hideaway to be a safe, fun, political free environment. We understand a lot of people are passionate about a candidate, so we urge you to put up a sign on your property at home.
If you go ahead and put up a sign without permission we will take it down and notify you that we did.
We do allow birthday, congratulation, graduation, and other celebratory signs to be put up with prior approval for a short duration.
If you have something to sell just create a flier and deliver it to the office and Laurie will post it on our bulletin board.
You all are fantastic people and we appreciate you!
It’s Laurie’s and my anniversary today. Fifty years ago I married my best friend. We were married in Cedarburg, Wisconsin on June 20th 1970.
If the preacher had told me that day that I was being sentenced to fifty years to life with this woman I would have said yes in a heartbeat. Those fifty years have been a way too short but wonderful ride. I don’t know what God has in store for us but I cherish and look forward to our future together.
I love you Laurie. ❤️
Today is the annual Summer Hideaway Birthday Bash. We have a rummage sale from 11 to 2
At noon we are giving you a box lunch.
The lunches will be served on the back porch. There are 200 available so one per customer. So when they run out you will then need to go home and make your own lunch.
BINGO is in the Pavilion at 1 pm. Jim is calling the numbers you lucky duckies!
Have a great day.
Someone lost an unusual set of keys this past weekend. If you are missing a set come on up to the office and claim them. They should be easy to describe because of all the unusual items on the chain. And the picture below is not one of them. I just liked the GIF.
This is the sunset we were treated to the other night. I thought I would share.
These pictures are from Josua Reynolds. A dusk and evening picture of the moon over Summer Hideaway. A big thanks to him for sharing the pics.
Someone approached Laurie from the 200 Sites (Phase IV) and said their GFCI Outlet was not working. She wrote the name and site number down and gave it to me. I misplaced the note and she no longer remembers who it was who contacted her. If it was you please text me at 262-308-7893 and give me your site number and name and I will repair your outlet post haste!
Thank you! :-)
Sites available for this weekend.
Due to recent cancellations we have two of our overnight sites and the Park Model available for this coming Memorial Day weekend. You can either go on line and book your site now or call Laurie at: 608-565-3825 and she will walk you through the process or do it for you.
Happy Mother's Day to everyone. Have a safe and wonderful day!
The sherif stopped by today with a lost dog. He asked if any of you might have lost your dog. I told him I would put a picture on our page to ask. The dog is currently doing hard time at the pound in New Lisbon. He is extremely friendly although he is also a puppy with no training.
Give Laurie a call if he is your dog or if you know who owns him.
Hello to all of our campers!
We wanted to let everyone know we are posting both the Spring Newsletter and our Action Plan for the new COVID19 mandate posted by Juneau County Health Department into the Summer Hideaway portal by 5PM today.
Check it out!!
The water is on!!!! Everyone has water to their site.
We only had to swap out five spigots in the initial start up. Unfortunately we don't know the damage last night might have caused. The temperature dropped into the twenties for four hours in the wee hours of the morning. I will go out and try to spot any broken spigots today. If you come up and find your spigot dripping let me know and I'll get to it during the next week. I usually wait for a week day because I have to shut the wells down to swap out a spigot. On weekends there are too many folks up here to shut the wells down. It only takes a few minutes to do it but it can be a pain and can get costly depending on what is destroyed.
That all being said it is good to have the water back on. Be aware the bathrooms and showers are currently shut down for the duration of the pandemic but the laundry rooms are open. Please follow rules posted for sanitary procedures in the laundry rooms and practice social distancing. :-)
FIRE DANGER HIGH
The sheriff department just informed us that the fire danger is extreme and there are no fires allowed even in a campfire ring. You’re going to have to eat prefire caveman style tonight. That is of course if you don’t have an RV with a stove or a gas grill or a car to go pick up ribs or chicken at the grill or pizza and hot subs at the store. That kind of caveman style.
Keep your fingers crossed that the predicted warm weather holds. We are going ahead with the water starting up this Monday the 20th regardless. The bathrooms will be shut down as of Tuesday the 21st until there is no more threat. Also please continue to social distance.
If you are storing a golf cart with us it will be available by Friday the 24th of April.
The Buckhorn Store is open every day for gas, groceries, hot subs, pizza, and a smile. The Buckhorn Grill & Bar is also open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with a full menu and specials with carry out and curb side.
Look forward to seeing all of you. It’s been a long hard winter.
Everyone please have a blessed and happy Easter. Stay safe and healthy and Laurie, Erin, Tim, and I hope to see you all soon.
The latest update on the water is that we are not going to turn it on the 15th of this month. The ten day forecast is predicting 6-10 inches of snow in a winter storm watch for tomorrow and into Monday and for the temperatures to drop into the teens for Wednesday and Thursday.
That all being said the water has a new turn on deadline of Monday the 20th. The plumber has already been notified and we are hoping that everything will work out for that date.
Keep your fingers crossed and think very warm thoughts!!!
Don’t worry what is for dinner Buckhorn Grill has you covered!
Meat Saturday is here!! The ribs and chickens have been cooking for hours and will be ready at 4PM! Let us worry about what is for dinner and you can relax on this beautiful Saturday! Open 4PM - 8PM for carry-out or curbside delivery call 608-565-2757. Full menu available along with our below specials.

1 Half Rack Rib & 1 Half Chicken Meals ONLY $26
2 Half Chicken Meals ONLY $22
If you are up for Easter weekend come and enjoy the Buckhorn’s Good Friday special!! Best fish in the area and their full menu is available!
In honor of Good Friday, tonight at the Buckhorn you can get TWO of our famous hand battered cod or lemon baked cod dinners with your choice of fries, coleslaw or cottage cheese, and bun for only $20!! We will also have our deep fried or pan fried walleye and perch, scallops, shrimp, and full menu available tonight! We will start taking orders at 3PM and orders will be ready for carry-out or curbside delivery between 4PM - 8PM tonight! Call 608-565-2757 or order online to claim your special! Thank you so much to our patrons for keeping us going during this time, we appreciate every single one of you!
Checking the weather forecast through the 8th of April it is looking pretty good. Just one day below 32 degrees and that one is 31 degrees. I put in the order to fire up the water on the 15th. Will keep checking it as the date gets closer but it is looking good.
If the water is turned back on then we intend on closing the bathrooms until the stay at home order is lifted. The reason for this is that everyone has a bathroom of their own to use and we can keep people safer that way.
Campgrounds are considered to be an essential business in Wisconsin. For many seasonal campers Summer Hideaway is their permanent summer home and then they snow bird in the south in the winter. That being said if you are coming to Summer Hideaway from out of State we and Juneau County ask you to quarantine yourselves for 14 days.
Stay safe everyone and lets enjoy ourselves and practice the safe distancing guidelines.
Below is the sign that Laurie has placed on the office door. Our office is closed for the time being as our nation struggles through this crises. Both Laurie and I are in the high risk category and we want to mitigate our exposure to the virus as much as humanly possible. We can still do business outside at a distance or over the phone. Thank you all for understanding.
Laurie, Erin, Tim, and I have been struggling with what we are going to do and recommend for our extended community here at Summer Hideaway. This is what we have come up with so far. As the situation progresses we may have to modify our rules so be aware that we will continue to update this list on our page so please check in often.
1. We know that not everyone uses Facebook or has friended our page on Facebook so please feel free to share this on your pages and discuss this freely with others that you know are residents of our camping community. Laurie will also send this notice out to each of you in the mail and post it in our Seasonal Camper Portal on our website at: www.summerhideawayrv.com
2. We request that when you and your family come up to Summer Hideaway that you respect the social distancing guidelines put in place by the Federal Government. If you have been exposed to someone who has been infected by COVID-19 we ask that you quarantine yourself on your site for the full fourteen day incubation period to assure you and your neighbors are safe and to try to control any further spread of the infection. Our camping sites are quite large so it will be easy for families to stay put either in the trailer or on the site for that short period of time. Be sure to bring up enough food with you for the full time period.
3. Our Buckhorn Store is open for business as are the other area Grocery stores and pharmacies. We will let you know if that changes. You can still pick up Pizza and Hot Sub Sandwiches as well as basic food supplies from the Buckhorn Store. The Grill and Bar is also currently open for business for carryout from the menu, please see their Facebook for hours and updates at: https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=buckhorn%20grill%20and%20bar&epa
4. We use Bromine in our pools and according to everything we’ve researched COVID-19 cannot be spread in a Bromine Treated pool as long as the levels of chemicals are kept at the US and State recommended levels. Both Tim and I are CPO certified and we check the chemical levels in the pools at least twice a day. We also have ORP Computers constantly checking the chemical levels. That being said the disease can be spread through human contact so again follow the Federal guidelines for social distancing and we should all be fine. The pools are scheduled to open on Memorial Day Weekend.
5. We have antibacterial soap dispensers in all of the bathrooms and Laurie and Erin have ordered hand sanitizer dispensers which will be located at the store and strategically placed in the center park. Please wash often and for the twenty second suggested duration.
6. The water is scheduled to be turned on April 15th as long as the ten day forecast predicts temperatures above 35 degrees both day and night. You can keep an eye on the weather apps to see if we will be on track for the 15th or later.
7. We will keep you posted if there are any changes to this posting. Let’s have a fun and especially safe 2020 season here at Summer Hideaway.
Don't forget your payment is due for the 2020 season.
Laurie asked me to remind you all that the seasonal payment is due no later that the 15th of March.
If you already paid the fee, thank you, and ignore this post. If not get it in the mail post haste!

Laurie and I are in Wichita celebrating the New Year with her sister Debbi and brother-in-law Pete and they took us to the botanical gardens to see over two million lights. This video is just a tiny portion of the show. It was all done to music and synchronized Christmas lights. Enjoy!
We wanted to let everyone know that though the weather makes you want to jump outside and head north, we need to caution you before you do that. Right now with the warm temps and the 4 inches of rain we have received over the last two days the roads are all flooded. Any vehicle shorter than a truck or high suv will get stuck in deep puddles. Tim has been plowing water here and at the store non-stop over the last 48 hours but there is simply no place for it to go. That said because of all the snow the water levels are contained to the roads. If you do decide to come please know it is at your own risk. Think spring everyone but slow spring so that the melting goes more slowly! 😳
This is a show Laurie and I went to in our campground here at Mission Bay. Maybe we should have a luau at Summer Hideaway. Hmmmm... We could have Tim do the fire dance.
