Hershel Dean Hood transitioned to Heaven on May 16 with his family by his side as his sweet daughter-in-laws sang “It Is Well with My Soul”. He was in the NMMC CCU after suffering a massive heart attack on May 6 at his home.
Hershel was retired from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad after working there for 30 years as a conductor. He was a Master Sergeant in the Army National Guard. Hershel served in law enforcement with the Monroe County Sherriff’s Department for 17 years as an auxiliary deputy.
Hershel served the Lord at Cason Baptist Church where he served as the choir director, one of the musicians, deacon and children’s worker. He was a lifelong musician playing in the Nite-Liters band whose record, “Little Band of Gold’ reached the top ten in the charts in England. He also played for the Singing Prophets Quartet. He was inducted into the Rock-A-Billy Hall of Fame. He also drummed for Elvis on several occasions. Hershel was a fun part of the Carolina Community pickin’ session on Monday Nights. Hershel will be remembered for his kind soul and for helping others.
Hershel leaves his wife, Ann Oliver Hood of 56 years; his sons, Gregory Dean Hood (Joan) and Andrew “Andy” Hood (Tammy), both of Amory; grandchildren, Micah, Lexi, Leah and Aaron (Edie); sister, Judy Holman, Amory; brothers, Billy Ray Hood (Ann), Amory and Lamar Hood, Jr. , Grenada; in-laws, Kay & Ray Hurst , Pensacola, Fl and Joe & DeWanna Oliver of Algonquin, Il; a host of nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Hershel. He was a father figure to many a kid and had many special friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lou Ollie Adams Hood and Lamar “Barley” Hood, Sr; his brother, Jerry Hood; and his grandson, Camden Hood.
Funeral services for Hershel Hood will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Cason Baptist Church with Dr. Greg Hood and Dr. Ron Oliver officiating. It is with a saddened heart that we pass along the news of the death of one of our regular Monday Night Jam friends.

Mr. Columbus Morris died earlier today from injuries he sustained in a car accident.
He was a regular Jam attendee along with his brother Jake. If the music was playing, Mr. Columbus was on the floor.
His presence will be missed.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Friends & neighbors be on the lookout for a white Altima (Lee County Tag LEG 4988) driven by a white male who appears to be under the influence. Last seen traveling on Carolina Road pulling up to houses and churches.

The Itawamba County Sheriff's Department (ICSD) has been notified. Call 662-862-3401 to update on whereabouts.

Also ICSD advises residents to lock their cars while at home. There's been multiple accounts of theft from unlocked cars in driveways.

Well friends & neighbors, it appears we have a theif in our midst.

Mailboxes in the Carolina, Peaceful Valley, Cardsville and Lost Corner have possibly been hit.
If you were expecting a check or debit or credit card, please contact the appropriate entity to be certain it has not been cashed or used.
This may have taken place on multi days.

In most cases, the theif left the mailbox lid open & no mail was at the residence for a few days.

If you have seen a vehicle at a mailbox (other than our beloved mailman Joe Peters) please report it to the authorities.

Thank you Carolina RCDC for inviting Kirklyn to participate in your Senior Night, May 3rd. I wish we could attend, however she has an event that was scheduled prior to this date. I am so disappointed because I would love the opportunity for my home community to see how she is all grown up now. Thanks again for thinking of her.
Please make a note of change in location due to parking issues. We will meet at the Evergreen Community Center. We can't wait to celebrate all of your accomplishments this year!
When is the Halloween carnival thing going to be?
Don't forget Pickin' in the Park is Thursday night. Line dance lessons at 6:00. Learning the dances is easy. We teach one step at a time and go over them until everybody knows them before we put them to music. Come on up and have some fun. People say, "I don't know how to line dance. I can't come." That's the whole point is to TEACH you to line dance. It's great exercise and loads of fun. The musical entertainment starts at 7:00. Lindsay Shields, Ryan Perry, and Sean Austin are the players this week. IAHS Basketball Boosters will be selling hot dogs, chips, Cokes, and water. You won't even have to cook supper!!!
Pickin' in the Park THIS Thursday, July 13. There will be cloggers, Blacktop 45, and Wes Sheffield. Should be a great show. Don't miss it!!
