This recital is a companion concert to our film Musical Interludes | Alice's Piano, presented by PCM in partnership with the Holocaust Museum Los Angeles and Steinway & Sons. Some of the performances were recorded at the Holocaust Museum LA and others were recorded in Barrett Hall.

The Pasadena Conservatory of Music, in partnership with the Holocaust Museum LA and Steinway & Sons, presents Musical Interludes | Alice’s Piano.

Musical Interludes | Alice's Piano is inspired by the story of pianist and Holocaust survivor, Alice Herz-Sommer. PCM faculty members perform selections from Chopin’s etudes, as well as pieces that give voice to the Jewish experience. Alice's Piano was filmed at the Holocaust Museum LA and is narrated by PCM board member Jane Kaczmarek, with commentary by museum staff, and a recitation of the Kaddish by Joseph Alexander, a 97 year old Holocaust survivor.

Play On | Lilian Li

Lilian Li, PCM student of Artist-Teacher Susan Svrcek, plays Debussy's Children’s Corner (The Little Shepard).

When Lilian Li questioned if her performance was okay, because of timing and dynamic "mistakes,” Dr. Svrcek told her, "What we need to remember is that every time we play something, it will be different. That you are listening with the idea of finding things to improve shows you are exactly where you need to be. We never find that “perfect” performance. Perfection is in the process!"

Thank you for sharing Susan and Lilian!

Jadon Elliott, Alumna

In May, Jadon Elliott was scheduled to present his senior guitar recital in Barrett Hall, a rite of passage for many students as they conclude their high school music studies. However, when Covid-19 caused a mass cancellation of events worldwide, senior recitals like Jadon’s were cancelled as well.

So when he sent us the video of his senior recital, which he recorded over the summer, we asked if we could share it with the PCM community. We are delighted to feature his recital on our YouTube page and include it in our latest blog post.
