Hello from artistic dorector
Happy music making, everyone! ❤️
A small clip from our artistic director, John Perry’s lecture-recital at NJMTA last weekend. Here, he is answering questions from the audience. What an inspiring, informative, educational, eye-opening, and breathtaking beauty of two hours! Eventually, he quiets the audience by his vast amount of knowledge about music and the mechanism of the piano - followed by his heavenly Schubert.

An ill-timed power outage became a rare opportunity to perform in the dark! With only a small array of LED lights illuminating the keyboard, our young pianists performed stunningly for the rest of the night in almost complete darkness.
Here we have a short clip of Umi Garrett performing a section of Beethoven Piano Sonata in E minor, Op. 90.
Enjoy!

JPA 2017 Day 5:
A small clip of our guest artist Sasha Starcevich teaching a JPA 2017 Academy student Ray Zhang.
He gave such an incredibly profound lecture on the importance of learning a piece well from the start, wrist motion, storytelling, ways to phrase and bracket sections of music, and combining it all with a superb metaphor to Julia Child and her cooking.

Past recipients include Van Cliburn, Dave Brubeck, Leon Fleisher, Ross Lee Finney, Henry Steinway, William Bolcom, Joan Morris, Alan Walker, Warren Jones, Manahem Pressler, Iris and Morty Manus, and Byron Janis. He received this honor at an award brunch at the MTNA conference 2015 in Vegas last Wednesday.
At the same award ceremony, John Perry's former student Sam Holland was named the MTNA Teacher of the Year. He is currently the Dean, Algur H. Meadows Chair, and Professor of Music at SMU, Meadows School of the Arts. He gave a beautiful speech showing his gratitude for Mr. Perry as his greatest mentor and teacher just prior to Mr. Perry's acceptance of his award. It was so moving that it rendered Mr. Perry almost speechless.
