The California State Guard (CSG) is in urgent need for volunteers who are ready and willing to serve their fellow California citizens. The CSG's mission is to support all elements of California's disaster response teams ranging from the National Guard to CalFire. The COVID-19 emergency is unique, but California faces disasters every year for example: wildfires and earthquakes.

The CSG is looking for volunteers that are willing to join the CSG now and for the long-term. This isn't a one-time effort; it is a chance to make a difference here in California.

The CSG needs individuals with the following skills:

- ASE certified automotive and diesel mechanics and technicians
- FAA certified aviation airframe and powerplant mechanics and technicians
- Marine powerplant and hull mechanics and technicians
- Medics/Corpsmen/EMT
- Healthcare professionals
- Cyber security

Volunteers must be willing to join the CSG, pass a background check and meet minimum health standards. There is no age limit. Prior service in the armed forces is preferred, but not required.

If called to emergency duty the service member will receive pay and benefits commensurate with their pay grade and be covered by the State of California for travel, workers compensation and disability benefits.

The pay is good if you get called to Emergency State Active Duty. If you are in the top two of the above list, your application will be expedited. There is an immediate need for those capabilities.

There are three components to choose: Navy, Army and Air.

If you believe that you are ready to respond - contact CSG recruiting at:

I wanted to share an event that I am helping with this year. It's been a rough year for everyone and I'm doing what I can to try to help share the love with the time and skills that I have. If cancer has affected your life in any way please take a look and it would be incredibly helpful if you could pass it along. Personally, I've lost a grandad and three aunts to cancer that I know of, and the best way to fight it is with research. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Join us Sept 14th, the eve of the 206th Anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner for a special screening of Jefferson Moore's documentary National Anthem Girl. https://qudio.com/events/ In 2014, Long Island native, Janine Stange, became the first person in history to sing The Star Spangled Banner in all 50 U.S. states. This documentary chronicles her inspiring journey, promoting patriotism and generating gratitude for our troops, from pro baseball parks in Ohio, to donkey games in West Virginia, to a battleship in Hawaii, and all parts in between.
American Cancer Society is sponsoring the 2020 San Gabriel Valley Flower of Hope Gala. The San Gabriel Valley Hope Gala was founded in 2010. The event has raised more than 1.2 million dollars for patient services and ongoing research advancements for the American Cancer Society. Each year, as a special highlight, we honor cancer survivors, healthcare professionals, and community leaders who have demonstrated exceptional service and highlight their achievements at our distinguished event through a nomination process. This year’s theme is “Flower of Hope,” celebrating the hope that is at the heart of our mission to free the world from cancer. Flowers have always been integral to our culture and identity in the San Gabriel Valley and a symbol of how hope can bloom when our community comes together. This year’s event will be virtual; however, we would like to honor members of the San Gabriel Valley community who have provided hope for fellow citizens during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Nominees will be evaluated using the following criteria: - Nominee must be a resident of San Gabriel Valley - Nominee must have made a contribution to the welfare and betterment of the community While completing this nomination form please provide as much information as possible to allow the selection committee to make the most informed decision. Deadline to submit nomination form is September 25, 2020. Please return this nomination form to: Robin Hall-Community Development Manager, [email protected]. Selected Honorees will be presented at our Virtual Flower of Hope Gala November 7, 2020, at 5:30 PM. Download the Honoree Nomination Form -

Dear American Legion Family and my Post 43 Family: At the end of March 2018 I submitted my paperwork to join the American Legion Auxiliary. In April I attended my first meeting. Looking back now, I could NEVER have imagined how much my life would change in such a short amount of time. From forging friendships that I know will last a lifetime, to being asked to participate in the Rose Parade, it’s been quite a ride. Each and everyone one of you I’ve interacted with, from the Auxiliary, to the Legionnaires, to the Sons, to the Riders, to local Posts and Chapters, to State & National dignitaries, to Medal of Honor recipients & their families, each of you have impacted my life in a tremendously positive and lasting way. My membership with this great organization has allowed me a direct connection to my Dad’s service that I never realized existed. I live every day to make him proud. There aren’t enough volunteer hours available in my lifetime that will allow me to show how much you all mean to me. I can only promise this: to represent the American Legion family in such a way that I make you proud each and every day. I promise to be a voice for the Legion family every opportunity so have so that I can spread information and garner interest in who we are and what we do. I am proud to celebrate our legacy and to watch it grow in so many amazing ways. I am proud to be among all of you even though I feel I can’t hold a candle to those of you who’ve served our country. I hope that my service to all of you and to our community makes you proud and that I am granted further opportunities to represent the Legion family whenever possible. For my 43 family, to the members of the National staff, to Post 13, to our Medal of Honor recipients, to our National Commander: thank you, thank you, thank you. Your support allowed me to have an experience in the Rose Parade with my daughter that is unforgettable and life-changing. God bless you all, God bless the American Legion family and God bless the United States of America. Respectfully, Cristina M. Molina
American Legion Riders Chapter 43 is proud to host the 10th Annual Sarah Adames Memorial Cancer Ride on Saturday September 15th. Please come out and support this great event. All money raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
