AdventurUs Women is a women-led company dedicated to providing the opportunity for women of all ages, races, sizes, backgrounds and experience levels to learn and experience outdoor sports in beautiful environments. Confronting the reality that outdoor sports can be intimidating if not impossible to access on one’s own, AdventurUs Women strives to create safe learning environments that encourage friendship and skill building while connecting with nature in beautiful locales. We are a company and a community intent on supporting other women both in their outdoor journey and as professionals. To that end, whenever it is possible, we commit to promoting and partnering with companies that are owned and operated by women.

We’re over the moon - we have some super exciting news to share! We want to offer you something to look forward to! We’re getting ready to share not one but TWO new locations for our 2021 Escapes. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
We know this year hasn’t been easy and we’re certainly aware that the road ahead is still uncertain, but we’re adapting and planning in order to bring you Escapes in 2021. Experiences like these take a lot of planning that needs to be happening now.
⁠⠀
These Escapes will look a little different than in years past - with smaller groups, extensive COVID protocols to keep you all safe, and fewer hugs - but we know we can deliver an experience that’s just as fulfilling and enlightening as those in years past. ⁠⠀

This was the team behind REI's Outessa, a national event series for women similar to the Escapes but on a much larger scale. Imagine 400 women together for a weekend playing in the outdoors... it was magic in so many ways. Our team was different in more ways than we were the same... age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, work experience, life experience, personality... but together it was a dream team. ⁠
⁠
Working with these women was empowering, inspiring, and life-changing. We knew the impact the events were having on the lives of the women attending and we put our hearts into every piece of what we did. I have never worked so hard, slept so little, and loved every minute of it. The amount of respect I have for each of these women is endless. I learned a lifetime of lessons from them and still lean on them. When Outessa was sunsetted it was the experience I gained with these women both personally and professionally that inspired me to create AdventurUs Women. ⁠

We often see women putting limits on themselves, especially when it comes to seeking adventure in the outdoors. That inner voice of doubt is there nagging... you are not strong enough, fit enough, experienced enough, small enough.... ⁠

We are here to tell you... YOU ARE F**KING FANTASTIC just as you are. We are not saying you are perfect... who is? Not us! Perfection would be so boring.⁠

Day 1 – Oh goodness in many ways it was really hard to pick just one woman that I admire as we know so many amazing women, and yet Lisbeth stuck out for me. This woman has an enthusiasm for life that is contagious, a desire for trying new things that is inspiring, and a positive attitude that is endless.⁠
⁠
Lisbeth decided that in 2019 she was going to learn more about the outdoors and I was lucky enough to be along for the journey. We met when she was a student in the Wilderness Travel Course that I teach as a volunteer... it was the beginning of many firsts. ⁠
⁠
Our snowshoeing day was her first time in the snow! ⁠
2 weeks later she was backpacking for the first time to snow camp in the Sierra!⁠
⁠
She also joined us at our first AdventurUs Women Escape where she tried:⁠

🧗🏽‍♀️rock climbing⁠
🛶kayaking - without knowing how to swim, and⁠
😋had her first S'MORE!⁠

I love that picture captures her adventurous spirit. When I think about the why behind what I do I think about all the different times Lisbeth came up to me with a giant smile saying "Saveria, this is my first time...."⁠

The barrel cactus is one of our favorites. Bright red it always stands out among the golds and browns of the dessert. Similar in many ways to the other desert flora and yet completely unique. ⁠

At our Leavenworth, WA Escape last year, as we paddled into a strong headwind on Lake Wenatchee we started losing steam. A 🌈 appeared ahead of us and I shouted "just paddle into the rainbow!" We got an extra boost of energy that only a rainbow magically appearing could provide.⁠
⁠
TGIF Friends... as we head into the weekend and towards 2021 remember to "Just paddle into the rainbow! Keep paddling into the rainbow!" ⁠

Someone who understands how important it is for women of all skill and experience levels to have opportunities to participate in outdoor activities.⁠

⁠Often outdoor activities can seem too intimidating to try, adventure can seem beyond reach, and that pesky inner voice keeps you from trying something new. ⁠
⁠
We create experiences that allow women to try outdoor activities and learn outdoor skills under the expert guidance of women instructors in beautiful places in a super supportive environment... sound awesome? They are... the Escapes are in the words of past alum.... "life-changing"!⁠

I don't want to focus on celebrating Thanksgiving as we were traditionally taught. As we know the fictional tale of "Indians" and pilgrims gathering in celebration and peace ignores the true history of how the land was stolen from the Indigenous Tribes who lived here and the unfathomable ways they were taken from their lands.⁠
⁠
As we reflect on back on the year it would be easy to dwell on how hard 2020 has been, but for today I want to focus on the positive and focus on today being a day of thanks.⁠
⁠
Today I want you to know how grateful I am for the amazing AdventurUs Women that are part of our community. ⁠ Because today is about family and loved ones I want to tell you about Deanne. ⁠
⁠
Have you ever met someone that you instantly know is your sister from another mother? This is how I feel about Deanne. I guess technically she is my "aunt-in-law" but she is so much more to me. She is a dear friend and someone I look up to, respect, admire and secretly wish I could be as cool as she is.

Not only has she trekked all over the world, she used to be an emergency flight nurse on helicopters. ⁠When Deanne is not hiking or paddling, she is an ER nurse in Florida where she has been fighting the good fight to save lives while risking her own in the midst of this pandemic. She chooses to work holidays so others can be with their family. She is fiercely independent and also selfless. She is an avid dog mom of rescue pups. She has a smile that will light up a room. ⁠
⁠
I was so stoked when Deanne's husband (all around amazing human and uncle!) surprised her with a ticket to our Leavenworth Escape last year. Having her there ... with her sister Nancy, was incredibly special for me.⁠

Tomorrow, September 26th marks the annual holiday to celebrate America’s public lands. Traditionally this is day where many gather to do service projects and support our public lands. ⁠ ⁠ While we my not be gathering, we ask that we each do our part to get out and support our public lands.⁠ ⁠ As we celebrate and show our gratitude on National Public Lands Day, though, we cannot ignore the history of the land on which we recreate. No sewing machine - No Problem!⠀ ⠀ Because not everyone has a sewing machine and/or extra $$ to spare right now... we wanted to share this quick and easy way to make face masks using items you probably have in your outdoor kit.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Materials needed:⁠⠀ -> Buff or bandana⁠⠀ -> 2 standard rubber bands⁠⠀ -> 2 small rubber bands⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Instructions:⁠⠀ -> Fold Buff into 3rds⁠⠀ -> Slide regular rubber band over one end of buff⁠⠀ -> Fold buff end over rubberband (adjust amount to determine width)⁠⠀ -> Secure with small rubber band⁠⠀ -> Repeat on other side⁠⠀ -> Use rubber bands to secure over ears.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Easy Peasy. Happy New Year’s sisters and friends. ✨ This past decade was one of deep discovery, random paths, big race goals accomplished, mountain summits, desert wanderings, healing oceans, beginnings, ends, high highs and low lows. A decade of leaving my 30s behind and embracing my 40’s. Almost all of these experiences happened with other people... friends, family, colleagues, strangers, students, teachers, mentors... this is what made this decade so remarkable. For me it is never just the experience, but the people I have met along the way that continue to shape and inspire who I am. If our paths have crossed... thank you. Know that as I reflect on this decade you are there and I am grateful for you and how you helped me grow. ✨ I have to say...as I stand here ready to step away from this past decade... I am so excited to charge into the next one! I am excited to continue building this community and following my passion of getting women outdoors. I can’t wait to see what is next... there are so many people that I have yet to meet that will become part of this journey. So many experiences that will continue to shape who I am. I am excited to discover what my 40’s and 50’s will look like. I’m pretty sure the fact that I will bring in the New Year wearing 🦄 leggings mean that there is magic ahead! ✨ Let’s find the magic together! ✨

This past year has given me so much to be thankful for that honestly I find it a bit overwhelming at times. 🍁I’m thankful for all the new people that have come into my life this year, those who have made it so much richer, those who have helped me grow as a person, and for each of you in the AdventurUs Women community. 🍁I’m thankful for the friends that were already there but stepped up and supported me in so many ways that I will be forever grateful. 🍁I’m thankful for making the time to see an old friend who was sick so I could reflect back on our time together when he passed. 🍁I’m thankful for all the beautiful places I’ve experienced both close to home and far away... places that fill my soul and center me. 🍁I’m thankful for my friends that are family and my actual family for their love and unconditional support. 🍁I’m so thankful for my little family... my husband who made sure that AdventurUs Women became a reality and for little Betty with her endless puppy 🐶 kisses and companionship.
