Beer festival raises $10,000 for police officers, veterans

And this is how you do it right! Very proud to be associated with this organization!

PLATTSBURGH — After missing a year because of the pandemic, the Plattsburgh BrewForce Beer Fest — an annual beer sampling that raises money for police officers and veterans — was back Saturday at the U.S. Oval.

Robert Cronin, an organizer and retired state trooper, said the event was a sell-out with 300 attendees who bought tickets for $40 each. After expenses, Cronin said he expected this year’s event to raise at least $10,000.

“All these people couldn’t wait to come. We sold out three weeks ago,” Cronin said.

100 MORE ATTENDEES

BrewForce mainly benefits Tour de Force, an annual four day, 300-mile bicycle ride along the East Coast that raises money for families of police officers killed in the line of duty.

This year’s beer festival had 100 more attendees than its first one in 2019, Cronin said, and included additional breweries and wineries for them to sample.

Among them were Valcour Brewing Company, Oval Craft Brewing, Ausable Brewing Company, Livingood’s Restaurant and Brewery, Township 7 Brewing Company and more.

Food trucks, games and local band All Without the Bass rounded out the festivities.

SOME NORMALITY

For the North County Veteran’s Association, which had a booth at the festival, this year’s BrewForce was a chance to spread awareness about its cause and raise some funds for its food shelf program for veterans in need, renovations for a planned museum and other services it offers to local veterans and their families.

“It gives us a chance to provide information about our mission and meet some people,” Ken Hynes, the Veteran’s Association’s secretary, said about the event. “It’s also a great tribute to all of us socially to be able to get out and see some normality.”

Hynes said the association’s museum plans to put donated military memorabilia on display when it opens, including World War II uniforms and equipment used on aircraft carriers, such as telescopes and compasses.

FB-111 RESTORATION

This year’s BrewFest also benefitted the Plattsburgh Aircraft Restoration Group, which has been restoring an FB-111 and B-47 that have been placed at the Oval’s entrance. The group had a smaller FB-111 replica at its booth for attendees to sit in and take pictures with.

Bob Taillon, who is a part of the restoration group, said restoring the FB-111 and B-47 also restores parts of Plattsburgh’s history.

“Plattsburgh has such a huge military history here from the War of 1812 all the way up until the base closed in 1995,” Taillon said. “It’s the history of the base, of the Air Force.”

'WE MADE IT'

For John Gagliano, an organizer for BrewFest, he was happy to see people gather again.

”I’m so excited to see people out and about, enjoying themselves like they did prior to the pandemic,” he said.

“Hopefully, the pandemic is behind us, and it’s something we’ll look back on and say, ‘We made it.’”

There will be a very limited amount of day of sales tickets for $60 cash only starting at noon. However you are not guaranteed to get a lanyard.

Water will be available for free located in coolers around the event field

A few people have inquired about bring their own lawn chair. That’s perfectly fine, just please be mindful where you “plop down” as not to obstruct Brewers or other booths…

There have been posts of people trying to sell tickets. It appears these are scammers so buyer beware!

There have been a few questions regarding the time of the event.

The event is 12p-5p, however, alcohol WILL NOT be served until 1:00pm. The hour before gives our volunteers time to check people into the event, and the patrons to be onsite when the drinking starts (instead of standing in line). In order to keep the unlimited sampling the drinking has to be limited to 4 hours per NYS Alcohol Beverage Control rules. There will be food trucks within the venue to serve you.

We apologize for the confusion, and hope you understand we are trying to put on an amazing event with very little waiting! Please share this info with your friends.

We have been working with the Clinton County Health Department regarding COVID, and have decided to follow the new CDC guidelines. People who are fully vaccinated are NOT required to wear a mask. Those who are not fully vaccinated must wear a mask. Enforcement of the guidelines will be on the honor system.

Also there are less than 30 tickets left. We have said it before this is going to sell out. Do not wait...or you will be left out!

05/14/2021

FINALLY, after 3 months of dealing with the state liquor authority and the health department - wait for it - WE HAVE OUR PERMIT!

There are less than 75 tickets left and only 300 tickets will be sold. Get your tickets now, because if there are any left for day of they will be $80.

We are also working with the health department on the new COVID guidelines from the CDC and how they will apply to our event. More info to follow on that.

UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE We sold out the first 150 tickets! Lucky for us NYS has opened outdoor events to 500 people as of May 15th. We are in constant contact with the Health Department regarding COVID, and want to make the event as safe as possible, while being able to get out and DO SOMETHING.

We have opened up another 150 tickets, and that will be it. We do not want long wait lines for beer! If you are one of those who will wait until the day of the event to purchase a ticket the price will be $80 (If there are any left). We are trying to be as COVID friendly as possible, and not having to exchange money will help that. AGAIN there will only be 300 tickets sold...don't be left out on the wrong side of the fence!

Here is a list of who will be there (more to be added)

- Valcour Brewing
- Oval Craft Brewing
- Ausable Brewing
- Livingoods
- Hex & Hops
- Raybrook Brewing
- Great Adirondack Brewing
- Lake Placid Pub
- Big Slide
- Blue Line
- High Peaks Distributing (at least 4 different breweries)
- Saratoga Eagle Distributing (3 to 4 different breweries)
- Craft Build (3 to 4 different breweries)
- Olde Tyme Winery
- 4 Maples Vineyard
- Vescos
- Murry's Fools Distilling
- Twisted Pita
- The Dog Father

That is 26 different local brewers so far - each bringing at least 2 or 3 different beers - THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT EVENT!

Ticket sales have been INCREDIBLE! There are less than 30 tickets available...if you are still waiting on getting yours you might miss out!

🍻🌞Who's ready to party?!🌞🍻
The year+ wait is over! Come on June 12th! Tickets are selling fast! Whatcha waiting for?!

03/28/2021

Tickets will go on sale April 1, 2021 - They are the same price as last year, $40.00, for unlimited sampling! At this point NYS has cleared outdoor events to 200 people, therefore we have limited tickets to 150. It is fully expected NYS will increase the limit restrictions on events, and as that happens we will increase the amount of tickets accordingly. SO MAKE SURE YOU CHECK BACK OFTEN!

Refunds will ONLY be issued for the following reasons: 1) our permit for the event is denied, or 2) the event is cancelled due to COVID. As per the Eventbrite policy the fees associated with the ticket purchase will not be refunded, and refunds will not be available until at least June 17th.

You must be 21 years of age to enter the event grounds (NYS law), so if you are not 21 years old do not buy a ticket, because there will be NO refund for this reason.

The link for tickets will be posted sometime on April 1st, or you can go to eventbrite.com and search Plattsburgh BrewForce.

03/03/2021

Our permit has successfully been submitted. The plan is to limit the ticket sales to the first 400 people. Due to the high volume of interest we are expecting the event to sell out.

Projected date for opening of ticket sales will be April 1st (not fooling) so mark your calendar.

Reserve the date June 12, 2021 for the Plattsburgh Brew Force!

Due to the nature that COVID-19 has evolved into, effecting our community and restricting our festival capacity, we have decided to cancel this years Brew Force. We hope to ensure the safety of our friends and family in the community through the cancellation of the event, and hope that others learn to continue these safe practices. For those who have already purchased their tickets, we will be refunding back the full amount shortly. We hope to come back next year better than ever and we thank everyone for their continuous support for this great cause!
If you have any questions or concerns about this cancellation please feel free to email [email protected]

I know I'm going to be more than ready for this by June 13th!
Just what we all need AND deserve when this pandemic settles down!

Important Update:

At this point the BrewForce is still on for June 13th. However, the state has cut our attendance from 500 to 250. Which means tickets WILL BE VERY limited. We are hoping this virus situation will be over by June. If you are planning or thinking about attending I would not wait to purchase your tickets as it very well could be sold out!

Further updates to be posted as information develops.
