The Harpers Ferry Outdoor Festival

The Harpers Ferry Outdoor Festival June 22 & 23, 2018

Every year we hold the Harpers Ferry Outdoor Festival and Tim Gavin Downriver Race. We raise money for river conservation through a silent auction, private donations, and other activities for the whole family! There's live music, good food and a variety of vendors to visit. Earlier in the day, we hold the annual Tim Gavin Downriver Race for some ...whitewater boating action on the Shenandoah River. This year's festival will be on Saturday, June 15, 2013! Help us support our rivers!!! Facebook links to our benefactors: Friends of the Cheat http://www.facebook.com/#/group.php... Friends of Blackwater Canyon http://www.facebook.com/#/group.php... Dear Beloved HFOF Volunteers:

I hope everyone has recovered from the weekend.

Don't feel too bad if you haven't LOL I have yet to fully recover. Mitchell and I could hardly walk Sunday night. This getting older business is for the birds.

I am always greatly humbled by all the hard work you guys do to help create such an amazing event. This weekend however; was the hardest I think we ever worked.

There were a lot of logistical changes, a lot of walking with heavily muddied shoes, standing in the rain, being blown around in the wind, wet feet for days, wet clothes for days, wet butt from everything you sat on, slippery conditions, did I say wet everything, no shuttle for those sore feet, no back gate to bring things in, wet camping gear to cleanup once home, lots a laundry.

There was an amazing amount of work and an amazing amount of love put into this event this weekend and it showed.

It made for a spectacular event when the clouds broke and the sun shone through.

We got everything off of the BRCES property Sunday night. I had spoken with the camp director for BRCES on Sunday and he didn't seem to upset with the mud ruts. As he put it "Kids like mud". I could not help but think that so do some of the adults especially those who braved the storm and the mess to come and support us.

We raised approximately $5000.00. We will have enough to pay our remaining expenses and donate a little :)

We will have a meeting down the road to look at the breakdown once everything has been paid for ie: bands, tee-shirts...

In the meantime, we have some repairs to make at BRCES. We should level the mud pits and then reseed.

I plan on going out to BRCES today and kind of rake out the pond road and any little places I can get with a rake and take care of a few shed items. Meet 7pm at the Demory Field Gate.

Bring a metal rake if you have one, gloves, water

I don't really plan on spending much time out there maybe hour or so. I feel like many lil trips is more my speed especially this week...and next LOL

Please join me if you can. We could even have a post fest depress at that time.
We will also have a meeting at my place to organize the bins at my house. Then Chris Ziegler will have to figure out what he intends on taking to further the Tim Gavin Down River Race and Doah Cup.

What’s left will probably be sold if it can be. Volunteers will have first dibs and then I purpose reaching out to maybe FOC or another local festival such as sleepy creek to see if they want any items such as light poles, trash cans, and tables.

What’s left over after that we can maybe have a yard sale? Regardless, we need to get that all done by the end of September or 3 months. That is when our lease for the shed is up at BRCES.

Very doable :)

I would like to give a very special shout out to our Board of Directors this year for sticking together and pulling through this final year of important decisions: Chuck Davis, Chris Ziegler, Ed LeClair, Linda Hill, Rob Keonen, Mike Moore, and the late Ryan Campbell.

A special thanks to Chris Ziegler for finding the most incredible bands and working with them so diligently to make sure they are all set. Jordon's Home Improvement and his crew: Raymond Charles Blakely Beck for building the stage. Doug Beatty and Scott Shinn of the Woo Yeahs who spent hours hauling the stage and hauling several loads of equipment in and then out again on Sunday mud and all and it is not like they live close by. These guys spent several hours setting up and tearing down the stage. Simply amazing 

KR Shimp and Chuck Davis for getting a generator to power the entire event!!! Ed Leclair for taking charge of our lighting needs and lead camp host. Chuck for making sure our finances are always straight and getting change wherever it was needed and picking up money when ever needed so that it didn’t end up in a mud puddle, back pack, car or otherwise. Thanks for staying up late to get the weekends numbers 

Special thanks to Melissa Miller, Artie Badger, and Max Bauer for trying to hustle up some vendors for the event. Especially Melissa Miller, for taking the lead on this project. Great job! Our vendors had a great time I thought it was perfect!

To our race coordinators: Becky Heinlein as Race coordinator and coordinating the Doah Cup and the Tim Gavin Downriver Race, Bobby Miller for Coordinating the Potomac Attainment Race, Trail to River 5K and the Bob Norr Challenge. Samantha White for your safety coordination efforts. Mike Moore for submitting the application for the river permits and getting the coveted Doah Cup. We may not have been able to have ALL the races due to the river levels but we were ready!

Also a special thanks to Bre Marston for an above and beyond Kids Area. And to John Marston (AKA Pappy) for making sure the kids tent was erected correctly for safety and shade for the kiddos. The Kids Area is truly one of the best aspects of our event. It is such a colorful experience, and a safe place where parents feel they leave there kids and can relax and enjoy the festival. Not to mention educational, Linda Hill's flower power, peace signs with reusable bottle caps were a huge hit I hope to see pictures posted soon.

Linda Hill Thank You for ensuring our First Aid supplies were in tip top shape. We used it this year 

Thank You Shana Stabi for organizing our left over silent auction items for sale and selling the Merchandise and to Mikie Battle B&G Customs for making incredible event shirts and donating some staff shirts and his time laying out the sponsors.

A HUGE Thanks to Mitchell Grove. Man there is just no replacing this guy LOL. He and Max Bauer hauled their tractors out to BRCES and practically mowed the entire place. Mitchell also hauled 2 side by sides, made a passenger trailer, brought the golf cart, brought the razor to winch out people who got stuck (well at least that’s how he justified bringing it LOL), moved hay around, drove shuttle for the vendors, musicians, campers and provided safety for the trail race. Not to mention lives with an office full of HFOF supplies year around and tolerates all my HFOF organizing, agonizing and anxiety. Oh and the mess that comes back post fest LOL.

Last but never least, because you are never least, you are my stars, my heros, my life savers, the backbone of the event: the admission folks, parkers, first aid personnel, the errand runners, race registration, race timers, shuttle drivers, pond trail access communicators, pre-fest setup, post fest cleanup, trail safety, River safety boaters, Merchandise, Kids area, camp hosts, builders, pre-fest arrangers, pruners, weed whackers, mowers, and the volunteers that just show up the day of and ask what can I do to help…..

Hi, do you have the dates yet for the Jun 2018 festival?
As many of you know, we are dedicating the 2018 HFOF calendar cover in memory of Dave Kersey. If you have a photo that you would like to include, please send it to me as soon as possible. I need them by Sunday 9/10 and can not accept anything after this date. Also, if you would like to have your birthday, special event, or your business featured, please send me those as well. Thanks. [email protected]
Hello all. We've lost a paddle near Whitehorse rapid, bent shaft, carbon fiber, Warner. Paul Marshall 's name should be on it. Please be on the look out for it if you are in the area. If you find it please PM us. Thanks!
