American Blues, Jazz and Soul Food (ABJSF) celebrates three art forms that are embroidered within our culture, while honoring the entrepreneurs that have nourished them. Owing to their vision, dedication and expertise, they continue to provide wonderful platforms from which scintillating blues and jazz performances and mouthwatering soul food are presented to the public.

About the Author: Ron Rudison graduated from Morehouse College in 1972 with a BA in Economics. He served as a Naval Aviator aboard EP-3 aircraft, flew numerous missions in the Western Pacific and Middle East as an Electronic Warfare Mission Commander and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1994. Ron wrote his first book on blues, jazz and soul food shortly after retiring from the Navy and has since practiced real estate in Northern Virginia. His latest book is American Blues, Jazz & Soul Food.

Mission: ABJSF highlights blues, jazz and soul food venues in Atlanta, Memphis, New Orleans and Washington DC. A preview of the 2nd Edition, "From White Sandy Beaches to Cotton Fields," celebrates venues in cities such as Clarksdale, Houston, Jackson, Little Rock, Miami, Nashville, Orlando and Raleigh-Durham.

NC food icon 'Mama Dip' passes away :: Out and About at WRAL.com

I had the pleasure of interviewing "Mama Dip" 25 years ago for my first book. After 25 years, her restaurant still is featured in American Blues, Jazz & Soul Food, 2nd Edition. May God Bless her family as they celebrate the life of an American Soul Food icon.

One of North Carolina's most beloved chefs and restaurant owners, Mildred Cotton Council aka "Mama Dip," has died.

This much we know about the US Navy collision

Prayers for the families who lost their loved ones in this terrible tragedy. A thoughtful and well written article that puts much in perspective.

There is -- at this writing -- a lot we do not know about how the destroyer USS Fitzgerald came to collide with a heavily-laden freighter in the waters off Japan in the middle of the night.

NAPS Class of 2017 just competed a very challenging 19 Days of INDOC. Very proud of Alex and all of his fellow Midshipman Candidates. They now are off to their well deserved 1st Weekend of Liberty!

NITRO, which marks the end of INDOC, has squads of midshipman candidates competing against each other in three phases – the Nimitz Field phase, the Prichard field phase and the Pit/Amphibious phase. While the most visible focus of each phase was on physical activities such as Tug of War, Wet and Sandy and the pugil sticks, each phase also included a mental challenge put on by the NAPS English, math, chemistry and physics departments.

The Real 'Red Tails': Life Lessons from A Tuskegee Airman

Last night, I had the honor and privilege of spending a half hour with Mr. Hiram Mann, 91 years young; one of the first "Black Fighter Pilots." I thanked him for his service, he thanked me for mine. Saluting all "Tuskegee Airman," wherever they are. May God continue to Bless and Keep you. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mobileweb/karl-a-pillemer-phd/against-the-odds-lessons-_b_1229642.html

Hiram Mann, 90, had to fight to find the work he loved, overcoming tremendous odds. The struggle and the rewards of his 90 years were encapsulated in his first words in our interview: "I was one of the original legendary Tuskegee Airmen."

Pensacola, FL residents are in for a treat tonight. The legendary Riley "B.B." King holds court. http://www.pensacolasaenger.com/events/an-evening-with-b.b.-king/

Throughout the 1990's as well as the 1980's, 1970's, 1960's and 1950's, there has been only one King of the Blues - Riley B. King, affectionately known as B.B. King. Since B.B. started recording in the late 1940's, he has released over 60 albums many of them considered blues classics, like 1965's de...
