07/29/2020

Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival is canceled for 2020. We send our support to our friends at GRACE and look forward to the return of the Festival in 2021, until then stay safe out there.

It is with heavy hearts that today we announce the cancellation of the 2020 Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The festival, which had already been rescheduled from its normal spring date, will return in 2021 to its typical weekend, the third weekend in May (May 14–16).

We carefully surveyed all options and held on as long as we could; however, we have reached the point where we cannot, confidently, safely or practically proceed. The safety of everyone involved is our top priority.

This was a hard decision, knowing how deeply this impacts our artists, our audience, and ourselves (as a small arts non-profit with the festival accounting for over a third of our annual net income) But we are confident that this is the best course for protecting the participants and the general public, while preserving the integrity of the festival for 2021 and years to come. We look forward to next year, the festival’s 30th anniversary, and delivering another culturally-enriching, successful, and safe experience for all.

Pandemic blues: Crush it with creativity

During the last four months, creativity has flourished, which has helped countless people deal with the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The world is stressed out, for sure. But many people are also beating those blues by getting their hands dirty with paints, dirt and dough. One way for people to take charge of their feelings and alleviate stress is to try creative activities at home.

For years I have been calling and asking to stop mailing the expensive booklets. We have not use the community center for over 25 years. I left voice mails to top executives and they have never been retruned. This is a waist of money. People should be asked if they want to receive this type of mail...or just check the site. I did not know that most executives work from home on Friday...which, I think this is when the center is used the most...righrt?
