Axis Dance Center

Axis Dance Center Classes in: Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Tumbling, Hip Hop, and Musical Theater. Competition Teams audition in August!

Operating as usual

Tonight is our last class. We have enjoyed it all!! Thank you to each and every student we have had! It has been the joy of a lifetime to work with each of you! Thanks for the memories!!

One of the hardest parts of being a military family is moving. After years of being able to live here in our home county because of being stationed out of Ft. Benning, we are now having to move. We have loved being able to make a difference in our community and reach out to so many kids, watching many of them learn to dance throughout the years. We have been blessed to have a truly great dance family and we are going to miss each of you so very much. The studio will be officially closed at the end of October.

Congratulations to Elena Cagle and her family on their new arrival this morning!!! Baby Mabel was born about an hour ago making Henry, Wyatt, and Ellie very excited to meet their new little sister!!!

This tuesday we have no senior classes due to the quarantines of several of our students. We will have regular classes tomorrow, and resume normal class schedules as of Monday next week. We hope everyone is doing well, and continues to maintain all safety measures and social distancing recommendations due to the Covid-19 out breaks in our area and the area schools. We will continue to practice all of our safety measures at the studio and take all CDC and state recommendations and guidelines.

Halloween Throw Back for the studio!! Be looking for a surprise posting later this week!!

We are publishing a partial COVID-19 update at this moment, because we're seeing some wildly wrong numbers floating around Facebook about Stewart County.

We don't yet have our weekly updates from the county nurse or the detention center. We'll publish them later today or tomorrow.

But, we CAN allay some fears with the following information, which comes from the DPH website for 1 pm today.

Stewart County has a grand total of 215 people who have contracted the novel coronavirus from the first case (in April) to now. Most of these have recovered; three have died. An unknown number are currently diagnosed but not in a hospital.

Looking back at the two previous weeks, then, here is the progression:

June 29---112 cases total
July 7------183 cases total
July 13-----215 cases total

We have almost doubled the total cases in just two weeks.

There are 45 people hospitalized at this moment. This number is important, because it's an indication of the number of active cases right now.

There have been three people to die. Even though DPH tells us that there have been two deaths of detainees, we have been unable to confirm this figure with either ICE or CoreCivic. We have asked DPH for a review to get accurate information.

Another important number to watch is the "rate per population." Since counties range in population from 1,680 people in Taliaferro County to 1,041,423 in Fulton, the number of cases tells you nothing about how bad the virus infection is in the counties relative to each other.

So, the data can be equalized by figuring the number of cases per hundred-thousand people. THAT rate tells the story.

Here are the top counties in Georgia by rates of infection per hundred-thousand people:

4,963 cases per 100,000 people---Echols County
4,307 cases per 100k people---Chattahoochee County
3,508 cases per 100k people---Stewart County
3,139 cases per 100k people---Randolph County

2,929 per 100k---Terrell
2,820 per 100k---Colquitt
2,783 per 100k---Hancock
2,691 per 100k---Calhoun
2,666 per 100k---Bacon
2,485 per 100k---Troup
2,402 per 100k---Dougherty
2,340 per 100k---Turner
2,329 per 100k---Atkinson
2,226 per 100k---Mitchell

In short, Stewart County has progressed from 14th highest rate of infection in Georgia three weeks ago to third highest rate today.

We will publish updates from CoreCivic and DPH soon.

Parents, due to the on going problems with Covid and the rising numbers in our area, Clay and I managed to find a way to live stream our recital performance on August 8th. Instead of gathering groups of people together in person to watch the students perform, you will be able to pay an access fee online for the link to the performance and watch the dancers live online. The only people allowed in the building the evening of the perfomance will be the dancers and the mothers who are working to help them change in the dressing rooms. We are working hard to keep the number of people down in order to limit possible exposure for our dancers. We feel at this time, this is the best possible option for our dancers safety.

A throwback to year one. The two featured dancer's are both grown and in the army now!! Although one is still a dancer...

Classes will resume on Monday, June 15th. We are looking forward to seeing everyone. We will be working hard to get information out to everyone in order to make up the time we have lost due to the pandemic closure. We are busy planning to amend the show we were working on. We have costumes and will be getting things handed out and a new set of show dates as soon as possible. We are so excited to see our dancers!!!

Hello Axis Families,
First, we miss all of you terribly!! This has been so much longer than any of us could have imagined. I know so many have been impacted by the virus with family and friends who have been sick. We continue to pray for all of your safety.

Considering recent developments, we believe that the responsible thing to do to ensure the health and safety of our dancers, their families, the staff and our community is to remain closed at this time. We have too many families who are caring for elderly family members, immuno compromised family members, and those who are themselves first responders or in the medical field and actively fighting this viral threat. Coupling that with the fact that cleaning supplies are not easy to come by and what we had on hand was donated to first responders, as well as the fact that our area of Southwest Georgia is one of the hardest impacted areas in the nation, I feel like opening and exposing any of our dance family would be an unacceptable risk and highly irresponsible on our part as business owners.

We are looking at possibly being able to have a June reopening to resume classes with an August recital. All costumes are arriving very slowly as you can imagine with the shipping delays that are happening due to the companies being shutdown during the virus outbreak. However, they are arriving. Obviously, our show will be very different from what we intended and the guidelines of how we actually host a show will change as well in order to do so safely. This will all also depend on
guidance from public health officials.

We hope you can help do your part in our community by staying out of crowds and practicing good hygiene.

Your support during this time is greatly appreciated. We will continue to keep you updated!

Thank you,

Amy and Clay Cadenhead,
and the entire Axis Dance Center Staff

Axis Parents: During this time period that the studio is closed for the pandemic, no tuition is due. Please disregard the auto statements that are emailed out. We will resume tuition when classes are able to resume for the year. Everyone continue to please stay safe. We miss all of you so much!
