UPDATE:
The "Vermont Craft Beer 1/2 Marathon" REPLACES the Raid Half Marathon on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30. The race is being managed by our very capable pals at 14th Star Brewing. Same lovely, rolling route along the Rail Trail, but with craft beer tasting at the finish line. Details are forthcoming, but lace up runners ... the race IS HAPPENING! We'll keep you posted on the details as we get them.

02/09/2017

Running friends, many of you have sent messages inquiring about the race. The Chamber will not be hosting the half marathon this year. It's just too much for a small office like ours to manage. We can assure you that the race is in very good hands with another organization, and they are hard at work coming up with a plan for this year. As soon as we have details, they will be posted here, very likely toward the end of February. We apologize to those of you who like to plan ahead, but we think you'll enjoy the end result :) Patience, runners ... we will be in touch soon :)

It is with heavy hearts that we share with you all that our very special runner friend, Jill Hartman, has passed away after her brief, but fierce battle with ALS. Her participation in this summer's Raid Half Marathon was just a hint of her strength and determination. Wife, Mother, Nurse, friend, athlete ... Jill was all this. We mourn her loss, and send our deepest condolences to her family and friends.

Our pals at WCAX are again, at the ready with a wonderful feature about our race. Thanks Rose, for another excellent piece of news coverage!

Congratulations to everyone who helped, who ran, who propped up the finish line in the crazy wind, who served food, gave out massages, helped with sprains, aches and pains, directed traffic at crosswalks, to our fabulous Police Department, to our finely tuned Ben & Jerry's team, to all the spectators who clapped and cheered, and most of all, to our wonderful Race Director David Southwick. We love that you come out and run with us every summer, and we hope to see you again in 2017. The Chamber Office will likely be closed tomorrow as the team recovers. If you placed in your age group, and you received an award, feel free to stop in later in the week to pick it up. :)

Friends, online registration is officially closed now. If you have a hankerin' to run 13.1, the only way to do it is to register in our St. Albans office by 4pm. Rest up and drink up. Tomorrow promises to be warm and humid, but we'll be prepared :) Please note that we will not be able to reply to FB messages tomorrow morning, and our office coverage will be brief! See you all at the starting line!

08/19/2016

Runners, we have a special person running the course with you on Sunday. Jill Hartman is a St. Albans resident, runner, bootcamper, and all around athlete. Recently, she was diagnosed with ALS, and it's swift progression has curtailed her doing a lot of the things she loves. Her besties and family are assisting her in doing the race, and she's super excited to be joining everyone. When you see her on the course, give her some love, a shout of encouragement or a high-five .... her will is a lot stronger than any disease could be :)

Thursday & Friday, 8/18-8/19: 9am-5pm

For those of you who have expressed concern about the growth along the Rail Trail, Good News: The trail is being mowed this week!
We just got off the phone with VTrans and they assured us that they are on the job! No more wild parsnip to contend with, the trail will be shiny and clear by Sunday :)

A volley of gunshot will start the race at 8:00 am when a throng of mask-wearing runners hit the streets of St. Albans, Vermont, running the same route a band of Confederate bandits took in October, 1864, after robbing the St. Albans Bank, the Franklin County Bank and First National Bank. We are thrilled to announce to you all that our dear friend Jill Hartman will be running the half marathon this year, with a little help from her fabulous team of friends, spearheaded by Dawn Mulheron. She'll have a special running stroller, and a literal pit crew of friends and family making this happen for her. We are so glad that she is going to join us, and wish her good health and the wind at her back for this race. We can't wait to meet her at the finish line!

07/26/2016

We are thrilled to have Bike Marshall extradordinaire Mary Pelkey return to ride the trail with all of the runners! She'll be at the end of the pack, making sure all the runners are running safely, and ensuring that our final runners come across the finish line with a bang!

07/20/2016

One of things we always hear post-race is how great a volunteer corps we have - so we are especially excited to welcome back our superhero CAT Team from Ben & Jerry's, plus a company of men from the VT National Guard - y'all will be the best-taken-care-of runners in the state :)
