Saturday Conservatory Of Music - SCM

Saturday Conservatory Of Music - SCM SCM, a project of Community Partners, was established to provide affordable, quality music instruction to children in the greater Los Angeles area, targeting children from low income families and the school trained musician.

Almost any one can learn to play an instrument but to become a musician, you must not only be able to play an instrument, you must also be able to take direction from the conductor while playing with a group of other musicians. The Saturday Conservatory of Music is centrally located in Pasadena, CA and provides children an opportunity to become musicians. SCM offers young musicians the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument, learn music theory and then apply those skills to the art of musicianship by participating in a real orchestra. Each SCM student learns the skills to play beautiful music in concert with other young musicians. SCM has nurtured and inspired many children to realize successful careers in the music and entertainment industry. Many students take to the foundation of musicianship learned at SCM and their training at local arts high schools such as The Los Angeles County High School for the Arts or Orange County High School of the Arts. Many students have gone on to universities such as University of Southern California, University of California, Berkeley and Julliard. The dedicated staff of SCM will provide the foundation and inspiration necessary for any young musician who wants to reach for the stars or simply wants to learn to play an instrument.

Mission: To provide high quality, low cost music instruction for young people in the greater Los Angeles area.

Some good mental health resources for students who are affected by COVID-19 related school closure.

State Superintendent Tony Thurmond and the CDE are extremely concerned about the mental health and wellness of students whose lives have dramatically changed during the COVID-19 response, as well as the health of staff who are also coping with these changes.

To support students, schools, and communities during this challenging time, the CDE has gathered information regarding mental health resources, including links for students to get direct access to mental health professionals. The new “Help for Students in Crisis” web page includes crisis and warm line numbers, along with other COVID-19-related resources for providing virtual mental health services, and information for mental health providers, families, and youth: https://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/cg/mh/studentcrisishelp.asp.

Dear SCM families,

Hope everyone is doing well and is staying safe!
Last week, we informed everyone that on SATURDAY, 4/4/2020, we successfully launched the online music courses for the spring quarter and how the teachers expressed the joy they felt to see their students on that first day. Since last week, we received numerous emails from families, inquiring about the online music program. This SATURDAY, 4/18/2020, will be the 2nd day of instructions. We understand that many of you might be wondering how this works. Many of the teachers had reached out to you, explaining how they are conducting their instructions online and what their curriculum entail. Hope their messages will answer some of the questions you might have about online learning. If you are still interested in enrolling for the Spring, it is not too late. Please email us at [email protected]. We will provide you with information on how to sign up for classes, make payment or any questions you might have about the program. Be sure NOT to miss out! The teachers have been working tirelessly each week to develop a fun, educational and interactive music courses, that will ensure you retain what you had learned in the fall and winter quarters, so when we return to Jefferson Middle School campus, you will be ready to make music together again. Please note that the quickest way to reach us at this time is through email. We appreciate your understanding.

Of course, we would like to continue the online music program this Spring. With your help, we CAN do that!
