It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that our founder, my Grandmother, Estella “Nonosina” Reid, on 8/9/2020 has left this physical realm to join our ancestors in the peaceful realm of pō.

She leaves this world with a beautiful legacy of love, music, dance & culture of our beloved Polynesia through our family & all the students she has ever taught. She has touched so many lives and all of you have also touched her in so many incredible ways. We at Nonosina want to thank all of you for your continued love & support of our aiga.

We humbly ask for privacy at this time so that our immediate family can celebrate our matriarch together. We will keep our extended families, students & friends informed about future plans for a celebration of her life ❤️
We thank all of you for your prayers and well wishes.

Rest in peace Uncle Willie K knowing you are loved by millions! 💙

Thank you to EVERYONE for all the love, support and prayers you have given.

We are sad to announce that Willie K has passed away on Monday night (May 18th) in his home in Wailuku surrounded by his ohana.

Initially in January 2018, he was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. He fought hard for over 2 years while still performing. In mid February of this year, he was hospitalized for pneumonia which caused complications with his lung cancer.

He was in positive spirits and doing okay, and he was looking forward to performing again. He then suddenly turned for the worse and lost his battle.

A celebration of Willie's life will be announced at a later time.

What Does It Mean To Be Hawaiian Outside Of Hawaii?

Nearly half of all Native Hawaiians live outside Hawaii. But, as we discover in the new season of Offshore, Hawaiians carry the islands with them to far-flung places.

Drew this #KimoKartoon to try and help with differentiating between the two words since THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. Not every definition is listed but you get the idea.

Wehewehe.org (on Ulukau) is a great resource to define a huaʻōlelo (word) in case you’re uneasy about something and I encourage you to try and expand your vocabulary during self-isolation! Mālama!✊🏽❤️

The Ho'oilina Foundation will be doing our part to keep our kupuna and community safe by cancelling this year's Heritage of Aloha Festival on May 16 & 17, 2020. We are following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's recommendation to not hold an event with 50 or more attendees for the next 8 weeks to contain the fast-moving coronavirus pandemic.
