Thank you Tara Kitchen In 25 years, we have seen some great work from kids in our community. We are so looking forward to reading their words.

Our country has experienced trauma: immense loss of life, systemic racism, protests, canceled celebrations and beloved traditions, guilt from ignoring injustices, and loss of everyday life as we know it. In the midst, parents are struggling to communicate what is happening to their children.
But children need a safe place to express their feelings. Tara Kitchen is proud to partner with Schenectady Kids Arts Festival to sponsor the Kids Arts Festival Essay Contest. Now through July 1, we encourage any child ages 6-18 to submit an essay about their COVID-19 experience. Two essays will win Google Chromebooks. Joan Gould, Janet Rogers Hutchison, Karen Brown Johnson and Eli Taub started Kids Arts Festival years ago because state budget cuts to education had taken arts and music away from elementary classrooms. Now, COVID-19 has taken the classroom experience away. Thanks to the Founders Club, art supplies will go to children in municipal housing so they can create musical instruments, peace lanterns, explore the night sky and even a make a fun mask out of the bag holding the crayons, chalk, tape and more! For a full list of those making these bags possible, please go to https://kidsartsfestivalschenectady.com/index.php/founders-club/

Our Story

Always the first Saturday in June from noon to 4, our outdoor arts festival has grown along with the kids who attend, some of whom now are parents bringing their own children. We seek to offer high-quality experiences in arts programming and family-friendly performances. Thanks to a long list of sponsors, from the Schenectady County legislature and MVP Health Care to small businesses and individuals, who believe investing in the arts helps communities with strong economic growth and an enhanced quality of life, all programming is free.

Awesome job everyone on the Kids' Arts Festival committee and volunteers. I just watched all episodes and ti was fantastic!
I was so excited to see the add on the back of the April 3-9 Your Niskayuna until I did not see Brookdale Senior Living on Union street especially since our local Nisky schools visit there! My parents are there and are confined to their rooms as are all the residents. Maybe because it is not technically a retirement home but assisted living? In any case they love when the students visit and would love to receive this mail. The mail is pretty much the brightest part of the day right now. PLEASE add our local Brookdales inalso don’t see Ingersol on Consaul road. Even though assisted living many residents are wheel chair bound and non or limited verbal. Please don’t forget them!
This woman, does it all for the kids in the community...

Thousands of children of all incomes and backgrounds participate in hands-on arts activities that are both fun and promote sound visual education principles. More than 50 community groups, businesses, non-profit groups and artists joined firefighters, the county sheriff and the Dudley observatory to provide tried and true arts and crafts activities for kids.
