Due to the current limitations on large public gatherings and the continuing uncertainty brought about by the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Northwest Flower & Garden Festival, scheduled for February 17-21, 2021 at the Washington State Convention Center.

Though we have been working diligently with local health authorities and our facilities to develop a safe action plan for a return to events, the current climate of the pandemic is not conducive to the operation of consumer and trade shows in the city of Seattle at this time.

Stay tuned to our feed over the coming months for updates.

We're committed to creating safe, successful and vibrant marketplaces for our consumers and exhibitors alike, and will do so in a virtual manner until the day when we can all meeting in person again!

Thank you Gardener's!

And that's a wrap at the 2020 Northwest Flower & Garden Festival! We chatted with thousands of gardeners of all ages and from all countries, handed out 2000 coupons, gave away $50 gift cards to five lucky winners, stood on our feet for 5 days straight (thank goodness for our Recycled Rubber Mulch Mats, they saved our backs!), drooled over fabulous flower fashions, hung out with friends Charlie Nardozzi, Laura from Garden Answer , Toni Gattone, and Marianne Benneti — and are going home tired, inspired, and ready for gardening season! Thank you Seattle - see you next year!

If you are in the Seattle area, come on down and say hi at the NW Flower and Garden Show at the Seattle convention center through Sunday. We had a great day today meeting long-time customers in person and chatting seeds with folks. It’s been a while since our farmers market produce-slinging days and our business has shifted to less face to face contact over the years, so we really enjoy the opportunity to get out and meet real live people when we can. We’ll be here 9am-8pm through Saturday and 9-6 on Sunday. Hope to see you there! We’ll have almost the entire catalog available throughout the event, booth 2427.

As the Northwest Flower & Garden Festival opens its doors tomorrow, John and Toni Christianson, and the Christianson's staff are placing the finishing touches on this year's display garden, "Hill Top Farm."

Their interpretation is derived from inspired travels to Beatrix Potter's Hill Top Farm located in the Lake District near Sawrey, England.

We hope that your imaginations will leap through our garden as Beatrix's little animal tales leaped through your hearts.

Metal Pine for a ‘Zen Furiosa’ Garden // For his show garden at the 2020 NW Flower & Garden Festival, Tony Fajarillo (Redwood Builders LLC) was inspired by the film /Mad Max Fury Road/ imagining a post-apocalyptic, urban garden. The film’s central character, Furiosa, rebels against a resource-controlling warlord to protect and save the warlord’s life-giving harem and secure hope for the future in the form of the world’s last remaining seeds. So, when Tony asked us to contribute a bonsai to the display, PBM Curator Aarin Packard said, “I have just the tree.”

Packard began restyling this bonsai in 2016 when he was inspired to design a bonsai to express emotions of pain, grief, hurt, healing, and hope. He believes these feelings are less commonly expressed in bonsai compared to expressions of peace and tranquility. To achieve his design vision, he inserted six, iron nails and one broken saw blade into the trunk of the tree.

The addition of metal does not inflict long term damage on the tree; rather, the tree incorporates the material and grows a callous over the wound. Packard later learned that the practice of inserting nails is a common bonsai technique used in China to produce trunk thickening at the base of the tree: a desirable aesthetic effect that mimics agedness.

The metal--evident to the viewer--stands as a symbol of the process we all go through when we live through difficult events and then carry their residue as a part of who we become.

Japanese Black Pine (Pinus thunbergii) / In training as a bonsai since: 1992 / From the collection of Pacific Bonsai Museum.

The show starts this Wednesday (2/26) and runs through Sunday (3/1). Learn more about NWFGS and get tickets to see ‘Zen Furiosa’ at
