Hello Trans Pride Seattle+ Family. The past several days have been heartbreaking and horrifying, although unsurprising. As we continue to stand in solidarity with our queer and trans black community, we’re sure there can be no easy answers to a problem we know to be so deeply embedded not only in our daily lives, but in the history of our country.

Blackout Tuesday is a country-wide initiative in which many organizations, for-profit and non-profit alike, are taking part. It’s an act of solidarity designed to shift our focus away from work and onto our community by cancelling non-urgent meeting, calls, social media postings, shopping, and other non-essentials. Instead, it is an opportunity to shift focus to stand in defiance of the continued racism, police brutality, and ignorant leadership that we see on a daily basis. It’s important to note that it’s not a day off — it’s about listening and learning, and applying the same energy we would apply to other areas of our lives to figuring out how we can bring about positive change.

What can you do today to help? Trans Pride Seattle+ urges action, whether that is protesting, supporting protesters, demanding explanations from elected officials, educating others, or donating where money will do the most good. If you have been fighting this entire time, it is an opportunity to rest in preparation for what comes next. Whatever you do, Trans Pride Seattle+ with be with you the whole way.

The Stonewall Riots were started by Black Trans Women and it's the reason for Pride Month. We felt that honoring our QTPO ancestors, their triumphs, and continued struggles was more important than a giddy "Happy Pride" message today. There is a time and place to celebrate, and a time and place to fight.

At Trans Pride Seattle+ we will have powerful collective action centered around homelessness, police accountability, and QTPOC brilliance to share. Donate now at www.transprideseattle.org/donate2020 to support.

In March, when the world changed, Gender Justice League knew that we could not abandon our community. Nor could we give up Trans Pride Seattle. The Stay Home, Stay Healthy initiative gave us a chance to evaluate what was most dear to us about Trans Pride - community, resiliency, and pride. It also afforded us the unique opportunity to partner with like minded organizations and grow into something stronger - Trans Pride Seattle+. Yes, it’s different. It’s online. We’re partnering with some of the best trans, non-binary, and QTPOC organizations in the northwest to bring you workshops, a film festival, and youth programming in addition to performances, a resource fair, and accessible opportunities to gather virtually. But more than ever, we’re going to need your help letting everyone know about this momentous shift. Share the news, invite your friends, and donate today so that we can make all of these wonderful additions. Trans Pride Seattle+; This Year, We’re Online!

Good morning, community!

As many of you already know, we had to make the difficult decision of not hosting an in-person Trans Pride event until after the current outbreak of COVID-19 has settled down. However, we know that our community needs each other more than ever before. So we've been brainstorming with our friends at Heartspark Press and Traction PNW for the last month to create something entirely new for June 2020: TRANS PRIDE SEATTLE PLUS!

To our Trans Pride Family, we want to share with you that after conferring with local public health officials and the City of Seattle, Trans Pride Seattle, Seattle PrideFest and Seattle Pride made the collective decision to shift our annual Pride celebrations to a series of virtual events this year in an abundance of caution and concern for our community’s health and well-being.

Although we want to march with you more than anything in the world, we will have the opportunity to connect and make our voices heard during a series of virtual events this June (to be announced early next month). In the meantime, we’re asking for your help in taking a Trans Pride Seattle survey (linked below), which will help us determine which virtual events would be most beneficial and enjoyable for our community.

Don’t worry though! We’re also working together with Seattle PrideFest and Seattle Pride to celebrate in-person later in the summer, when it may be safer to resume community festivals. We’ll be sure to share these details with you as soon as they are available.

We are so thankful for our community support, and for you as we now shift towards creating a new kind of Pride celebration - one which will bring all of us together when we need it the most. Until then, Rock on!

It’s been 50 years since the untimely death of diva and gay icon Judy Garland in June of 1969. But she is still a star to many a queer kid, whether through the timeless THE WIZARD OF OZ, emotional ballads sung with her famous intensity, or the many drag queens that still belt out her powerful song...

No matter what happens tomorrow, we will have a safe and prideful event. Please join us and lead in the resistance with your community!

From the article: 'U.S. society is so opposed to trans liberation that even just coming together and living freely as trans people is a powerful, radical act. Author, artist and Trans Pride headliner J Mase III said “us getting together as trans people and all the expansiveness of that — it’s doing radical work for us to gather, everytime we gather.”'

Trans Pride Seattle

Trans Pride Seattle is Seattle’s annual Pride event for the Northwest’s two-spirit, trans, non-binary, and gender diverse communities to come together in a show of solidarity, power, and celebration. Welcoming people from all over the county and featuring some of our communities most incredible performers, Trans Pride Seattle has become a hallmark event for the Northwest’s LGBTQQIA+ communities. We are proud and excited that Trans Pride is on it’s 7th year, taking place on Friday June 28th in Capitol Hill - with the march assembling at Thomas & Broadway from 5:30pm to 6pm and then marching down Broadway, up Pike St, onto 11th Avenue, and into Cal Anderson Park for a community celebration and performances in the Cal Anderson Park grotto & Bobbi Morris Playfield starting about 6:30pm. This year we will feature nearly a dozen performers, speakers, and dancers from around the nation and showcasing QTPOC performers from the Northwest. We are a grassroots funded community event that seeks to self-fund without coorporate influence - you can help us achieve that goal by donating to get t-shirts and other stuff at www.transprideseattle.org/donate or volunteer at www.transprideseattle.org/volunteer
