One day this year, we hope to REBOOT this campus race for those waiting patiently until we can find a date confidently! Virtual runners can join in again too for the live run. And while there won't be real cherry blossoms, there will be a couple real GIANT inflatable cherry blossoms in the Quad near the finish line, in honor of the date we should have had this coming Sunday.

Head on over to www.racethebloom.com if you're registered and let us know if you want to wait for a postponed date this year, defer to next year, get a discount code for all of our other races, or join in the virtual run fun now! First drive through packet pick up is this Saturday, March 21st at the UW Center for Urban Horticulture (3501 NE 41st Street, Seattle, WA 98105) from 10 AM to 6 PM).

If you can't make any packet pick ups, you can pay to have your stuff shipped. Just fill out this form and we can invoice you for shipping. https://cutt.ly/4tzhnau

03/19/2020

📣ATTENTION: For those coming through the DRIVE UP packet pick up this Saturday, March 21st, from 10 AM to 6 PM, the location is now at UW Center for Urban Horticulture. 3501 NE 41st Street, Seattle, WA 98105.

Due to restaurant restrictions and travel bans, the Graduate Seattle hotel staff has diminished and have canceled packet pick up there 😔

At the Center for Urban Horticulture follow signs to the main road entrance. Staff and volunteers will be screened for symptoms in the morning, and in our arsenal we'll have masks, gloves, sani-wipes and hand sanitizer. But YOU guys don't have to get out of your cars :)

Everyone who has signed up are welcome to come get their shirts, bibs and medals if purchased. Again, whether you've deferred registration to next year, are waiting for our postponed date this year, or are doing the virtual run option, come to packet pick up! (unless you opted for shipping).

Let’s all abide by UW requests. Thank you everyone for understanding. Hopefully all this goes away soon, we all stay healthy, and we can get on with the live event on a future date this year.

UW is asking people to avoid visiting campus to see the cherry blossoms this year and enjoy them online instead. Here’s a live look!

Run for Good Racing Company

Well said. Thank you for these words, Run for Good Racing Company!

We are living in crazy times here! Things are changing every minute and as we get into the thick of the canceled race season, we wanted to send a message to everyone who thinks that the PNW has a great racing culture and would like to help preserve this culture and our great events well past this crisis.

Almost all race production companies around this area are run by small businesses which are also struggling during this time. When a race is canceled we take a huge loss, along with all the small businesses that rely on our events for income too (think medical teams, toilet rentals, MC's, cone rental companies, photographers...). So many of our events are fundraisers for local nonprofits as well. Even when a race is postponed there is a good chance the race is either losing money or just breaking even.

So yes, it is disappointing when all the training you have done goes out the window and you cannot participate in a race. But, far more disappointing it would be to lose a race in future years due to this crises.

Here is the ask - when you get a cancelation notice, please do not ask for a refund, there are hard costs that we have laid out months ago that we cannot get back. Instead opt for the virtual option (we know, it is not as much fun and you lose the camaraderie of the race experience but you still get all the swag). Or, take the offer to roll over to a different race in the series. We realize that many of you are also feeling economic woes these days and this might be a big ask but we are all trying to make as many options available to you as possible.

When you get a postponement notice - do your best to make the new date work. Then recruit all your friends to join you as a post-virus running party!

Here is the biggest thing you can do to help - even if you are not affected by any cancelations - Take the time you have in social distances at home and sign up for future races and sign up now. Think of it as motivation to see you through these rough times. There will be an end to this and we will still keep on running fun and social events. So, sign up, and sign up now! There are so many great late spring and summer races coming up.

And yes, we will encourage you to sign up for our competitors events too, just this once! Snohomish Running Company, Fizz Events, Orswell Events, Run 2 Be Fit, Orca Running, Rainshadow Running, Run Snoqualmie, Northwest Trail Runs, Rivalry Events, Tacoma City Marathon Association

And also in the meantime, if you are healthy enough to do so, please shop at our local running stores who support us all year long. Some have even implemented curb side pick up. West Seattle Runner, SHOES-n-FEET, Super Jock 'N Jill, Fleet Feet Seattle, Road Runner Sports, Run 26, Seven Hills Running Shop, Brooks Trailhead, Kirkland Everyday Athlete

Thank you for supporting our events and events in this area. Are races an essential part of society? Well, no, if we went away society probably would not collapse. But, do we provide a much needed positive way to bring people together, challenge themselves, support each other, raise funds for nonprofits, and bring a fun way to keep healthy and get out on the trails and streets in a positive way? Yes. We think races are a huge part of why we think this is the best place to run in the world! Now, go out for a run, and wash your hands. Let's get through this with strength and pride in our running community.

And for the love of all things - is it 'canceled' or cancelled'?! And why is dismantling a word and mantling is not?

- The team at Run for Good Racing

We are all set to gather your choices due to a ban on live events larger than 250 people!

March 21 will be the first DRIVE THROUGH packet pick up day! Scheduled at the UW Center for Urban Horticulture entrance from 10 AM to 6 PM. We're searching for more packet pick up locations and times for the future as well as waiting to schedule the postponed live race. Stay tuned at www.racethebloom.com

But we need your help! Everyone who is registered, or who still wants to register, please VISIT the WEBSITE and let us know what you want to do in the options on the front page! ➡️www.racethebloom.com

Dear beloved fans,

Thank you for your patience. We are so sad to say that we have to cancel the March 22 UW Cherry Blossom Run date due to executive orders by local and state government to ban sporting events larger than 250 people, which includes this race at ~3,000 people. However, we are in compliance with the decision to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus and keep our loved ones safe! These government announcements are serious. We're in this together, and we have to listen to health and government authorities if we're going to beat this outbreak as a community!

After round-table discussions with event staff, and in reference to our refund policy, we'll be donating to the University of Washington Facilities and Botanic Gardens departments who keep the entire campus and more than 250 cherry blossoms beautiful! We're also coming up with additional options that work for everyone:

1. Our first desire is to postpone the event to a future date this spring, after the ban is lifted, and after we discuss with various departments at University of Washington. With UW spring break and current class closures we won't know feasible dates for another 2-3 weeks.

2. On the website, we'll be adding a virtual option this week (which we highly recommend so you can still keep all your other plans)! You can transfer into those virtual race options at no cost during a window of time and also run on your own time from anywhere. To be included in the results you just need to submit your watch or phone geo-tracking data to us. A great suggestion from us is to run the course on campus and see the cherry blossoms between March 21 and March 29! Please see the website menu for our course maps: (https://runsignup.com/Race/CherryBlossomRun/Page-2) and (https://runsignup.com/Race/CherryBlossomRun/Page-5).
For those doing the virtual run, we'll be creating multiple locations and venues where you can pick up your shirt, medal (if purchased), bib, goodies, tumblers (if purchased). Grab a few friends/family and make it fun run to the blossoms!

3. Additionally, we'll be offering deferment options to next year's race for a nominal fee, or a generous credit towards a future Rainier Running race this year as those race plans unfold! And we'll let you know more detail in future emails, website and social media updates.

Thank you for your solidarity and understanding in these trying times. We'll be in touch with more info and details soon,

-UW Cherry Blossom Team

Way to go UW Medicine!!! 👏🏽 👏🏽

Ken Price waited his entire life to catch his breath. Then the transplant surgery team at University of Washington Medical Center helped him breathe easy — for the first time ever.⁣ 🫁

Cystic fibrosis caused breathing problems for Price since childhood, but after he received the first-ever double-lung transplant at UW Medical Center, his condition quickly improved. ⁣⁣

Within four weeks of transplant he was getting active again and has since completed many bike races and a marathon, even completing the Seattle-to-Portland bike event in a single day.⁣

More than 25 years post-transplant, Price is still going strong.⁣ #AHigherDegreeOfHealthcare

Have any of our fans lived in or visited Japan during cherry blossom season?!

“Come spring, Japan’s cherry trees, dormant through winter, burst for a few short weeks into shades of pink. As Japan’s national flower, the cherry blossom—or sakura, as it’s known in Japanese—is celebrated for its symbolism, its brief appearance a metaphor for the fleeting nature of life. Here’s what to know about Japan’s 2020 cherry blossom season.“

Race the Bloom!

We are Seattle’s annual Cherry Blossom Run benefiting UW Botanic Gardens. Race distances feature a USATF certified Half Marathon, a 5K from the Center for Urban Horticulture to Red Square/The Quad, and a Union Bay Kids 1K run.

Did you know over 200 cherry blossom trees exist on the University of Washington campus, and the largest cluster of cherry blossoms are in The Quad with 30 Yoshino cherry trees?! Thousands of people come to view these stunning Yoshino cherry blossom trees in bloom each year in late March to early April, and we want YOU to be a part of this tradition.

The Cherry Blossom Run is bar none one of the prettiest runs you’ll ever do! From the start, you’ll run/walk through acres of urban natural area and see wildlife, Lake Washington, the 520 Floating Bridge, and the Bellevue skyline. You’ll pass by renowned UW sports facilities including the new Husky Ball Field and the impressive Husky Stadium! As you go past the UW Link Rail Station and over the Montlake Blvd Pedestrian Overpass, look back to see Mt. Rainier! Head past various academic buildings and when you reach the main entrance it’ll be a downhill finish into an oasis of gothic-style architecture and one of the nation’s most stunning displays of cherry blossom trees in bloom!

Finally worthy of showing off my medal! I kept postponing because I was too nervous to run a half on my own. No water stations, no bathrooms, no support. But I did it, and it felt good. 🌸
I am having similar issues as others. I transferred to a virtual run but when I try to enter my info it just shows my registration information. Please help. 🥰
I chose to do the run on the Race Day as the weather was good and people were very aware of social spacing. It was my first time to actually spend time on campus and definitely not disappointed. Saw quite of few bicyclists and folks with their dogs, and this family that dressed their dogs in UW fashion [keeping our social spacing] Thank you for the opportunity to do our own virtual run.
For those of us interested in running the 5k course around the day that the run had been scheduled, will the course be marked? I’m not so great at running with a map🤪. Also thank you for your clear communication and creative options❤️
I’m not signed up for this run but your choice to cancel the run and NOT have an option to reimburse people seems pretty unethical and not customer service oriented. I get the health concern but as people’s livelihoods are affected by whether or not they can work, the choice of reimbursement should be an option.
With the ban of gatherings through the end of March issued today, will the race be rescheduled?
Is the race still on???
Packet pick up? It’s March 21st but what times is it going to be open?
Can you tell me about shuttle from the finish to the start? When does it run? How often? Where do we catch it? Thanks!
Erin Norris Ifeanyi Echeruo are we doing this?
You have the most amazing customer service! Thank you. Can’t wait to support and run this race.
