I am convinced that you cannot change something you aren’t deeply angered, grieved, or moved by. And I need to hold space for grief. Because grief is a catalyst for change.
I grieve the presence of racism in our country, cities, and hearts. And I desperately want this grief to move me to action.
Action for our Black brothers and sisters.
Action for our communities.
Action for the next generation.
I commit to learning more about systemic racism including redlining, environmental racism, the school to prison pipeline, and mass incarceration. I commit to elevating the voices of Black men and women in our community. I commit to checking and rechecking my own biases. And I commit to own up when I don’t get it right.
Every one of us is a culture-shaper, a “maker of what’s next.”
Let’s make it count.
