Anh Thu Nguyen is our Under-Secretary General of Public Relations. She is currently a Freshman (our youngest U-SG) at the University of Washington, who is planning on majoring in Informatics and/or Business Management. She is interested in how the effective flow of information technology can have a vital impact on the profitability of companies, whether big or small. This curiosity illuminates in her passion as a USGPR. After graduation, she aspires to continue her higher education in graduate school, and hopefully work as a Business Analyst.
During her spare time, Anh Thu likes to keep fit and live a healthy lifestyle. Her go-to recreational activities are running, playing soccer (she rather calls it football), and exploring the outdoors!
This is Anh Thu’s first year as part of the S|CON team so she is bound to create lots of memories at this week’s conference. Her experience has been “eye-opening” and she is “blessed to work in a team of talented and humorous people”.
Her message to all delegates is: “I haven’t done this before and everyone is so hyped up about S|CON right now. I’m a little nervous but also really excited. Let’s have some fun!”

Anais Gentilhomme is our Chief of Staff. She will be graduating this Spring 2017 with a major in Oceanography. Her future aspiration is to do research in astrobiology and oceanography with a focus on ice properties and compositions of exoplanets. Her hobby is Karate, so don’t mess with her.
Her favorite thing about S|CON is that she loves to see a conglomerate of the best mind at UW come together to a simulated conference and actually predict, with accuracy, events that have happened. Her favorite S|CON memory is using her wildest dreams and unleashing it onto the rest of the delegates.
Her advice to newbies is : “Don't take it too seriously, SCON works best when you have fun with it! And always always have a body double.”

Tyler is our Secretary-General. He is a senior (graduating this Spring!) at the University of Washington, currently double majoring in Political Science and International Studies. After graduation, he aspires to attend into law school, specializing in land rights work with an international organization.
His favorite hobby is playing tennis, hiking, and generally being in the outdoors as much as possible. a true Pacific North Western! He is allergic to animals but every house he has ever lived in has at least a cat in it because he love animals “to death”.
His decision to become Secretary-General illuminates in his passion for leadership. He loves to see how creative delegates can be, how free they are to shape the conference and how they want it to look. MUN conferences can be pretty standardized at times which seems repetitive, but S|CON is something new every year.
His favorite S|CON memory was last year when he was the director of his fictitious rebel group in Brazil. During the conference, there were so many “crazy things” happening that he had no idea what was going on. However, he knew everyone was having a great time. It is the livened ambiance that mattered to him.
His advice to new delegates is: “Be creative and be specific in everything you do and say. Know that we, as staff, enjoy messing with your plans and will take any opportunity to do so.”

Aidan Killackey is our Under-Secretary General of Logistic. He is a sophomore (Class of 2019) at the University of Washington, majoring in Political Science. However, he has prospectives of double majoring in European Studies (unless his study abroad trip to Spain this fall makes him want to renounce the continent). Aidan aspires to go to either law or graduate school, and eventually work in the field of humanitarian law.
During his spare time, he enjoys reading books, or rather just buying books (to be honest). He once wished that one day he is able to go around and trick people into thinking that he’s from Seattle. However, this dream was thwarted when he said ‘Pike Place Market’, whilst also being from Spokane.
Aidan’s favorite thing about S|CON is that he is able to use the vertical symbol ‘|’ whenever he types. Before, he never really found a use for it - What a waste of keyboard space until now. This is Aidan’s first year in S|CON, so his best memories are in the making! Although he is a new face, Aidan is very charismatic and approachable.
His message to you is: “Have fun! I haven't actually done it before, so you're already more experienced as a delegate!”

Tiffany Dao is our Director of Simulations. Tiffany is a senior and will be graduating this spring 2017, with a major in Law Societies and Justice. Her future aspiration is to become an immigrant lawyer, working in immigration policy. Tiffany’s ultimate goal is however to land a position in the prestigious United Nations - which is very plausible!
Her passion for MUN, and diplomacy in general, started when she attended her very first MUN in New York, which she thought was “life-changing”. Her fervent contribution would not have resonated here today if it wasn’t for New York.
During her spare time, she has an avid passion for singing and listening to music. She has been singing for over 10 years! Care for an S|CON opening song, Tiffany? ;)
Tiffany’s favorite aspect of S|CON is seeing the delegates’ creativity. Her best memory was working in Simulations with Isabel. ( Can we feel the S|CON love already?)
Tiffany’s advice to new delegates is: “It's a fast paced conference, but don't be afraid. It's really fun."

Isabel Nelson is our Assistant Director of Simulations. She is a Sophomore (Class of 2019) at the University of Washington, currently majoring in International Studies. Isabel’s future aspiration is to simply have a nice garden one day. During her spare time, she likes to solve crossword puzzles. If any lucky someone takes her out for dinner, remember that Isabel hates mayonnaise!
Isabel’s favorite thing about S|CON is the creativity that it allows - she is interested in how delegates build and expand their character over the course of the conference. Her best memory at S|CON is being in Sims with our fellow Director of Simulations, Tiffany Dao, in last year’s conference.
Her advice for S|CON newbies is: “Go with the flow, don’t stress and be creative”.

Kevin Zhou is our Under-Secretary General of Simulations Analysis. Hard-working and determined, he is a junior (Class of 2018) at the University of Washington who aspires to attend medical school and become a medical doctor after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology.
He is also the President of the Washington Gaming Association; so if you’re interested in the gaming community on campus or eSported-related events, he’s the man of the match! In his spare time, he enjoys competitive gaming and watching movies and TV shows.
Kevin’s favorite thing about S|CON is the ability for delegates to represent positions within a government, each with their own personal aspirations and agendas. The autonomy of delegates results in a more dynamic and constantly evolving conference. One of Kevin’s fondest memory of S|CON was when he was murdered by U.S spies after defecting to China during the 2015 South China Sea Crisis.
His advice for new S|CON delegates: “Don't be afraid to work in groups to help push your own personal agenda. Additionally, early in the crisis, it is imperative that you collaborate with your cabinet to implement directives that are in the interests of your country and not only your own.”

Professor Reşat Kasaba is a professor at the Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington, for over 30 years. He specializes in economic history, state-society relations, nationalism, ethnicity, migration in the Middle East, and world-wide.
Professor Kasaba's insights in today's diplomacy is often reached by local and regional media. He is the commentator for the Voice of America in Turkey.
For those of you who aspire to study in our prestigious Jackson School, he is the man to reach to. Dr. Kasaba has made tremendous contribution to the department, and has opened minds of many International Studies major.

It is my honor to invite you to Seattle for the 2017 University of Washington Security Conference (S|CON). Held May 20-21, 2017 on the beautiful University of Washington campus, S|CON is UW-MUN's innovative international crisis simulation conference, wherein delegates and cabinets respond to a simulated, yet realistic, international crisis. Our hard-working staff, composed of Committee Directors and Assistant Directors, Simulations/Intelligence Officers, and the diligent members of the International Press Corps team (who will keep delegates across all cabinets updated on the latest news of developments through our live-updated news blog), will work with delegates and the Secretariat to produce an engaging and enriching experience for all.
S|CON's fast-pace requires diplomatic, strategic, and out-of-the box thinking, with a wide array of unforeseeable scenarios awaiting delegates. Delegates take actions through directives to respond quickly and thoughtfully to events as they unfold, using their unique powers and goals to shape their decisions. At S|CON, we take pride in providing a unique conference where all cabinets operate in conjunction with one another, each capable of influencing the conference's outcome.
Registration is open to all collegiate schools, teams, and individuals interested in attending. If you are not associated with a collegiate MUN team or are a MUN team from outside the Pacific Northwest/SW Canada, please contact me at the email below before registering! The delegate fee is $40 per delegate, and there is no delegation fee. We can also assist your delegation with finding lodging upon request.

Dear participants of S|CON and those who have heard of us,
It is a tradition for the Model United Nations team of the University of Washington (UW-MUN) to host the Security Conference (S|CON) every year at our beloved University. This spring, we are back at it again! However, we cannot do it without a team of diverse diplomats, who are the core of the success of S|CON.
For returning participants, we hope you take part in this year’s conference to enrich and diversify your diplomatic experience. And for new members, need not to worry because S|CON warmly welcomes you to commence your understanding of a 2-day UN conference. No matter how experienced you are, or what school you go to, everybody will benefit from this opportunity to improve oneself and to be able to actively debate on a global scale. After all, we are a team that believes in the celebration of diversity and unity.
