URGENT ACTION NEEDED!! If you have not yet contacted your legislators to restore school levy flexibility statewide, NOW is the time. The form link takes 10 seconds, but phone calls work even better—see below for a script!
In addition to the bloodbath of school teachers, nurses, and librarians wrought by the McCleary “resolution” across Washington State, school theatre teacher positions and programs are often a target for cuts. Without these programs, future theatre performers, educators, technicians, playwrights, directors, artisans, and patrons will be denied opportunities to train for careers in the theatre industry. Please contact your reps and share!
If you live/teach/learn in the Issaquah, Renton, Snoqualmie Valley, Tahoma, Enumclaw; Edmonds, Northshore, Lake Washington, Monroe; Marysville, Lake Stevens, Snohomish, or Everett school district—or know someone who does—your DEMOCRAT state senate reps Mullet, Palumbo, and Hobbs, respectively, are the three remaining holdouts voting against restoring levy flexibility across Washington. The new levy lid from McCleary has had an extraordinarily deep impact on many districts around the state, and theatre positions are being cut due to budget shortfalls. ALL districts in WA should be able to collect their voter-approved levy funds.
While any and all WA residents can and should contact these three legislators (and your own), those who live in:
📌 5th District: Call State Senator Mark Mullet at (360) 786-7608
(Cities include Issaquah, Maple Valley, Black Diamond, Renton, Snoqualmie, North Bend, Carnation; School districts include Issaquah, Renton, Snoqualmie Valley, Tahoma, Enumclaw)
📌 1st District: Call State Senator Guy Palumbo at (360) 786-7600
(Cities include Mountlake Terrace, Brier, Bothell, Kirkland, Maltby; School districts include Edmonds, Northshore, Lake Washington, Monroe)
📌 44th District: Call State Senator Steve Hobbs at (360) 786-7686
(Cities include Marysville, Lake Stevens, Snohomish, Mill Creek; School districts include Marysville, Lake Stevens, Snohomish, and Everett)
You will have a profound impact on all of Washington schools and theatre in our schools state-wide! Do not assail or harass them, just give them your beliefs about voters being able to fund their schools as they see fit.
Please share to reach educators and families in the 1st, 5th, and 44th!!

“Hello Senator __, my name is __, [I am a constituent of yours—IF TRUE] living in __ WA, and I’m a public school supporter and a supporter of arts in our schools.
I’m calling to ask you to restore local school levy flexibility and to trust local voters, educators and school boards to make the best decisions for our students.
I believe in local, voter-approved school levies to fund additional teachers, librarians, school nurses, early learning, and performing arts programs.
I urge you to vote to approve the House's version of levy legislation, House Bill 2140.
Thank you.”
