Our fifth and final winner in the Winterfest Coloring contest is the amazing and talented artist Alia H! Alia will enjoy prizes from Seattle Center Monorail and Book-It Repertory Theatre.
Thank you to everyone who entered our contest this year. Seeing your vivid and colorful drawings really helped brighten our season. Best wishes for a happy new year!
The Gardeners at Seattle Center took some time away from from weeding and leaf blowing to safely transplant a Chief Joseph Lodgepole Pine in December. After securing the roots and root ball, the pine was placed on a tractor for the ride to its new home on the other side of the Space Needle. Gingerly it was placed and replanted next to another Pine already in the landscape. 🌲
If one our your goals for the New Year is to try new things you should totally sign up for a virtual class at Pottery Northwest. They have new classes starting in Jan.
Happy New Year! Our wish is that we get to see you soon! What is your wish for the New Year? ❄️

These drawing outline the Armory Stage proscenium and our Winter Train & Village, as well as some other elements featuring pinecone and snowflake medallions, which are signature images in Cook's overall design. One of the enduring elements of Seattle Center Winterfest, when we fill the Armory Food & Event Hall with holiday cheer and family-friendly activities, is Winterfest Student Showcases. Between Thanksgiving and New Year each year, this beloved tradition commands the Armory Mainstage, alongside professional Winterfest performances. Over 100 public school orchestral, choral and dance ensembles as well as private youth performance groups, travel from throughout Western Washington with instruments and music in tow to share their prepared seasonal repertoire. The trip provides a platform for these young artists to practice their performance skills and share their artistic accomplishments with family, friends and the public. They also get to try out Winterfest Ice Rink and take in Winter Train & Village (both sadly closed in 2020).
Seattle Center campus is still illuminated in thousands of twinkling holiday tree lights, however, COVID-19 has sadly canceled in-person Winterfest events. So in 2020, we invite you to participate in our Virtual Student Showcase platform, featuring video content from schools and youth arts training programs, available now through Dec 31. The performances will warm your heart and put some holiday spirit into your day. Check them and additional Winterfest activities out at ❄️https://fal.cn/3cl9k.

Polish Festival Seattle is delighted to offer a celebration of Polish Christmas traditions centered on Wigilia, Christmas Eve. Family members decorate the tree & set the table, where hay is placed on a white tablecloth, recalling Christ's humble birth in a stable. An extra place setting is added for those who cannot join or for the stranger who may stop by. When the 1st star appears, the meal can begin. A prayer is said and all share the opłatek, a thin wafer made of flour and water & exchange wishes.
Tradition calls for 12 meatless dishes to be served made from foods from the 4 corners of the earth: forest, sea, field, & orchard. From these limitations, a rich variety of recipes emerged over centuries. After the meal, all gather by the tree to exchange gifts & sing carols. Shortly before midnight, many go to Midnight Mass.
Brought to you in videos generously created by our Seattle-area Polish community members & friends. We hope you enjoy & that we will soon meet in person again.
