We are grateful beyond description that our ranks are full and overflowing in the SOPRANO and ALTO sections of the Chorus.

Any SOPRANOS and ALTOS interested in joining beginning in Fall, 2016, will be wait-listed and contacted as space becomes available. Additionally, a very brief vocal survey will be heard ("Happy Birthday").

Seats for TENORS and BASSES, however, are still available.

Got some Chorus pics to share?
Please do!

South Pasadena Community Chorus welcomes the New Year and we prepare for some exciting programs in the months ahead.

This is a special announcement about a small change in procedure:

The chorus is still OPEN for Sopranos, Tenors, and Basses. Or, regretfully, put another way, we have closed the Alto section to new members at least for right now. Factors such as balance between the sections and capacity in the performance area (loft) have lead us to this choice.

If you are an Alto and wonder about your current place, we’re using this benchmark as a guide for those who still have a secured place in the Chorus: If you sang at least one of the last three concerts with us, you are still IN. Those three concerts are Messiah II & III, Spring 2015, Brahms’s Requiem in October, 2015 and Christmas Messiah, 2015.

Grab your calendar:

Rehearsal and Performance calendar is set and it all begins next week! Yes, February 13th, 8:55-11:30 a.m. is our first rehearsal for the spring semester.

“In the beginning”, we felt called to convene and sing together as a community when faced with the adversity of 9/11. And, for the last decade and a half we have enjoyed the value of building our singing community with an annual concert in December, then adding a spring concert a few years back, and most recently, this past fall we had two concerts (Brahms in October and Handel in December).

This year the growing continues:

Sunday, March 13th at 4:00 p.m. is a VESPER CONCERT entitled, “Where Can I Put My Feet?” It is designed to bring attention to two groups of disadvantaged peoples: the Homeless (particularly youth and children) and Refugees who flee their land because of unimaginable threats to their lives.

Sunday, April 17th at 4:00 p.m. is a VESPER CONCERT entitled, “Enjoy the Earth Gently” with a celebration for Earth Day (April 22). We are planning to enlarge the concert experience before 4 o’clock with an outside event on the lawn, perhaps even schedule activities or experiences on the lawn the day prior (Saturday) to the concert as well. Hopefully the weather will be in our favor after having survived the ravages of El Niño!

Sunday, May 15th, at 4:00 p.m. is our SPRING CONCERT: “Rutter Requiem and Other Sacred Music.” In our traditional format, the concert will be followed with a welcoming reception afterwards.

The Rutter portion of the rehearsals will begin in FEBRUARY, so plan to attend and participate at all THREE events.
Sign up right away here on MEETUP. Tell your Soprano, Tenor and Bass singing friends to come and join the fun, they won’t want to miss it. We can expect another exciting, joyful, and satisfying spring with time shared singing the best in choral literature. We’ll also enjoy sharing and laughing in community with others.

Now that Groundhog Day is over, we can hardly wait to get started! See you soon!

Messiah 2015~ We ran out of 500 programs, it was "SRO"

Today is the day! Music and cookies! Come on down!

We'll miss you, Bonnie! So glad you rehearsed with us. We can look forward to the spring concert, though. Right? Cheers!

Unfortunately I will be in Ohio on this date and won't be able to sing in the performance, but I have been practicing joyously! Please attend this free event if you can and donate to a great community group. This is their 15th year singing the Messiah, so you won't be disappointed.

A spectacular performance today of the German Requiem! Kudos everybody!

Well balanced sections.... always room for more basses and tenors. Come Saturday morning 9/25 --- 8:55-11:30 a.m.

Now where's that Brahms' score??? "A GERMAN Requiem" ??? It's sung in ENGLISH??? Oh!!! :) [Whew!]

Some of us are STILL have echoes of those beautiful sounds the chorus made last week!

Our amazing tenor, Daniel Chaney, sent a glowing Thank You and it needs to be shared:

"Mike, that performance was one of the best in my recent memory. I don't mean myself. The orchestra, you, your wonderful choir, Nike, Marianna, and the fabulous Gregorio.
Honestly a perfect storm that I'm sure blew us all away!!
Thank You!
Can't wait til next time."

My thanks to you as well: For your gracious collective spirit, for your unending energy, and for your ceaseless appetite for learning. Every rehearsal and every contact with you (the gathered "you" and the individual "you") is a privilege.

And, by the way, remember we have BRAHMS' "German Requiem" rehearsals on THURSDAY NIGHTS from 7:30-9:15 (7:25 !) now through June 11 th.

Our Saturday schedule resumes SEPTEMBER 12th.

Saturday's rehearsal was terrific. The choruses are sharp and clean.... Come this THURSDAY NIGHT at 7:30 in you'd like a little choral touch-up before next Saturday's rehearsal. Nice group! (Still room for tenors and basses!) :)
