Hello Friends! It's been a while since our last post. We have been very busy since reopening Clifton Heights Inn in April. We are busy planting new flowers, creating new breakfast recipes and have welcomed a new staff member: Skippy, our Apricot Standard Poodle puppy. I'm not gonna lie...I forgot what it takes to having a puppy. He is into everything and has managed to rip two pairs of shorts, my favorite pjs and a new summer dress. I have yet to find one of my missing slippers and have searched high and low! It's a good thing he is cute....

In other news, the St. Louis Cardinals are in full swing and back to full capacity on June 14th. Tickets are available thru MLB.com (and other places.) In addition, the St. Louis Many is back with a shortened season but there is a great line-up beginning July 26th running thru September 5th. Here is a link: www.muny.org.

We have an incredible Van Gogh Immersive Experience beginning September 1st thru November 30th. I have already purchased our tickets and am so very excited about it. Here is the link: www.vangoghstlouis.com.

I will say that St. Louis has done an excellent job in combating covid. We pride ourselves in continuing to mask up and our local restaurants and bars have done a fantastic job in opening up outdoor spaces to accommodate their guests.

Come back to St. Louis for a visit! We would love you to come stay with us!

ANNOUNCEMENT! Hi friends of Clifton Heights Inn! I hope you are having a great Saturday! We have a couple of announcements. First, due to the increase of the COVID virus, we will be shutting down our b&b until March 1, 2021. This will take effect December 1st. At that time, if the virus is still raging, we may choose to extend that date. We do not take this decision lightly. Along with that decision, we have also decided not to have our extended family and friends here for our annual Thanksgiving dinner. That decision brought to mind the fact that lots of families will be paring down their guest lists this year which in turn will force some of those attendees to fend for themselves. Many families will be struggling to come up with their own Thanksgiving dinner and we would like to help.

It is our honor at Clifton Heights Inn to offer up a full Thanksgiving dinner to 5 eligible families. The dinners will include a turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, potatoes, green vegetable and a pumpkin pie. The dinner will be designed to feed a family of 4. All meals will be ready for pick up on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. To clarify, we are not making prepared food but offering up food for them to cook at home.

If you know of a family that you feel is in serious need of this offering please have them contact us directly by emailing us at: [email protected].

CHALLENGE: We realize that the need will be much greater than the assistance we are offering. I am challenging our neighbors who own their own businesses to join in on this with us. Imagine how many more families we could help?

Peace to all.

6 Reasons To LOVE Staying in B&Bs!

Yes, most hotels are "nice." But why stay in a uniform, cookie-cutter hotel when you can cozy up in a quaint, unique B&B?
There's nothing quite like waking up in an old, beautiful home and being greeted by a friendly local, holding a scrumptious breakfast. Turn in your electric key card and turn the k**b open to homey, local living.

Unique Rooms
First, let's talk about hotel rooms: stark white bedding, some boring furniture, and a mass-produced art print on the wall, right? Now, let's talk about B&B rooms: charming little hideaways filled with character, tradition, and unique decor. Quirky trinkets, antique mirrors, and ornate wooden furniture? You betcha'. Hosts personally decorate the rooms of their B&Bs to make guests feel right at home. Many times, B&B rooms are even "themed." For instance, the "blue room" may be painted soothing hues of blues or the "rose room" might have a floral, tea-party-like feel. Usually, B&B rooms capture the history of their destination, and you may even feel like you're in an old mansion or museum. Of course, decor depends on the B&B, but you can always count on it being warm and homey.

History
Did you know that most B&Bs are actually restored buildings, old mansions, or historical homes? As a matter of fact, many are hundreds of years old! Sure, B&Bs don't usually have shiny new elevators or state-of-the-art fitness centers, but that's the charm of them. Staying in a B&B is like taking a step back in time and immersing yourself in the history of a destination! Take note of old architecture and antiques that fill the structure. Your host will be more than happy to share with you the history of your home away from home.

Personal Attention
Innkeepers go the extra mile to make sure you're all comfy-cozy. Your host will always be available to help you when you need it. Not sure where to eat, what to see, or how to get somewhere? Simply ask. That's what they're there for! And the best part is, they will give you an authentic, local response. They know what's touristy and overpriced and what isn't. With their advice, you'll feel like a local! You might even catch yourself saying, "I feel like I really live here."

Little extras
Since B&Bs are usually family-run, hosts want to make you feel like you're part of that family, even just for a few days. That being said, your host might offer you some extras to enhance your stay. They may lend you free dvds or books if it's raining, they might leave cookies for you to snack on, or they might even offer you a glass of wine in the evening while you chat about where to go for dinner. The home itself may have a secret garden or a working farm out back - you never know! It's the little surprises that make B&Bs so special.

Breakfast
I mean, come on - what's better than breakfast? How about a home-cooked breakfast of traditional favorites shared with friendly fellow travelers! This is a much-loved perk of staying in B&Bs. Nibble on scones with jam in England or savor the flavors of bacon and sausages in Ireland. Chat with your host and fellow travelers about your favorite sites over a cup of morning coffee or tea! With that being said, breakfast is not mandatory. If you'd like to try a local restaurant's breakfast, go for it! Did you have a few pints too many last night? Skip breakfast and sleep til noon. It's your vacation, and your hosts understand that.

Security
Traveling with valuables can be unsettling. You're often told to hide precious items in your suitcase, use safes, and make copies of your passport, right? Well, at B&Bs, there are only a few people coming and going, and that makes them a lot more secure. With less going on, hosts can keep a much better eye on the property than the staff of a huge hundred-room hotel. Of course, always be cautious with your stuff, but rest easy knowing your innkeeper is looking out for you.

Hello friends. In these high uncertain times, anxiety creeps in and can build to a point of physical reactions. Here is a short article published in Natural Medicine Journal:

Throughout history, lavender has been cultivated for its flowers and oils and used both cosmetically and medicinally. A member of the Labiatae family, lavender is primarily used either dried or as an essential oil. Historical use includes documented activity as an antibacterial, antifungal, carminative, sedative, and antidepressant.34 Lavandula angustifolia, Mill. is the most common species of lavender utilized for health purposes.35 Lavender is native to the Mediterranean, the Arabian Peninsula, Russia, and Africa.

Lavender has a high concentration of volatile oils, which impart its distinctive and pleasing fragrance. The relaxing experience of lavender fragrance led to its deliberate, therapeutic use in aromatherapy to relieve mild anxiety. Lavender has been also used internally for mood imbalances such as anxiety, insomnia, and gastrointestinal distress, including “nervous stomach.”

We LOVE lavender here at Clifton Heights Inn. In fact, we make all of our own soap. Lavender is our biggest "seller." It is offered in our rooms and as a gift upon departure! We just made a new batch yesterday and it is curing.

WE ARE RUNNING A CONTEST: Upload a photo of yourself depicting how you are spending your time while stuck at home, or getting outside. We will pick a winner and send you some lavender soap! Below is a video of a Social Distance Dance Party we had yesterday with neighbors! It was such fun!

Stay well!

Good morning friends! We have made the difficult decision to close down Clifton Heights Inn until April 3rd. In light of the increasing cases of the coronavirus, we feel it is our moral duty to keep a social distance from our guests. This decision did not come easy but we believe it is the right thing to do. We will take this time to do a super spring cleaning and touch up of areas that need a bit of sprucing up. Also, please know that our website is still up and running and we are taking reservations for future dates and of course, our gift certificates are available online. 😉😜 This will pass, stay strong and stay healthy!

What's on everybody's mind these days?? I have a thought. As a small business owner and directly effected by this virus with one cancellation after another at my Bed and Breakfast. I read a suggestion yesterday that I want to share. The small businesses out there need your help. Local restaurants, bars, gift shops etc. are suffering. It is understandable that people don't want to go and hang out. Here is what you can do. Walk in, buy a gift card and walk out. Or, buy it online! That purchase will help keep the lights on for that small business and allow you to come back in the near future and spend it! It's a win-win situation! Take care but live your life!
