Why Did God Allow COVID-19 to Happen?

Do You Have Spiritual Questions About the Pandemic?

“Why did God allow this pandemic?”

“What good can come from it all?”

“I’m afraid. What can I do with this fear?”

Do you struggle with these questions—or do you have loved ones who do, but you don’t know how to answer them?

You can find Biblical responses to questions like these through seven newly-posted answers by Will Graham, Franklin Graham’s son and Billy Graham’s grandson. The current pandemic is turning many hearts to spiritual matters, and as Christians, we have an opportunity to trust Christ and comfort others. “Through these difficulties,” Will said, “we can understand God better and learn to rely on Him more, having our faith strengthened.”

We pray that these short answers will encourage and equip you to be a light for Jesus Christ wherever you are. Then, as Will said, “make yourself prayerfully available, and allow the Holy Spirit to work through you to provide answers in a time when most only have questions.”

May God bless you,

—The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association

I had not heard the term “social distancing” until the outbreak of the coronavirus. Intentionally staying several feet away from the nearest person had never crossed my mind. In Biblical days, however, it was very much a practice in relation to leprosy. What can we learn about our own spiritual condition through the social distancing story of Naaman?

BGEA Rapid Response Team Chaplains depart from Charlotte, NC, heading to New York City to minister to New Yorkers dealing with the Covid19 pandemic. They will be serving in conjunction with the mobile hospital Samaritan's Purse has sent to NYC. Please pray for the Samaritan's Purse team and the Rapid Response Chaplains as they serve the Lord during this crisis.

Will Graham and his father, Franklin Graham, will pray with and encourage chaplains from the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team as they leave Charlotte, North Carolina, to minister in New York City. The crisis-trained chaplains will offer emotional and spiritual care at a Samaritan’s Purse field hospital.

FROM THE DESK OF FRANKLIN GRAHAM

Dear Friend,

I wanted to write you with an update. The coronavirus has turned everyday life for most people upside down. America, like most of the world, is in a state of emergency. Millions are faced with unemployment or business loss, and most tragic of all, so many are facing this pandemic without the hope of Jesus Christ. People are filled with anxiety and fear.

At the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, we opened a 24/7 prayer line for people who want someone to pray with them. Early this week, we began airing a 60-second evangelistic message on TV across the entire United States, and we have had thousands of people call. We are humbled by this opportunity to share about His love and salvation.

If you are struggling with worry in the midst of this crisis, call us at 888-388-2683—or share this number with your loved ones, friends, or others on social media. We know that prayer does make a difference.

Chaplains with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team are in Italy, the epicenter of this crisis. As they minister to medical personnel, patients, and families, pray with us that many will find new life in Christ.

I am deeply grateful for your partnership. Your financial support and your prayers make this ministry possible.

The days may feel uncertain, but we serve a God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He alone “is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1, ESV), and we are urgently sharing that truth with a hurting world.

May God richly bless you,

Franklin Graham
President

TIFTON, Ga., March 17, 2020 – Will Graham will hold a one-night online Celebration on Friday evening, March 20, at 7 p.m. ET, despite the postponement of the Tiftarea Celebration with Will Graham due to the coronavirus pandemic. Graham will be joined for the event by Josh Havens and Matt Fuqua of The Afters, who were originally scheduled to perform during Friday night’s opening service of the Tiftarea Celebration in Tifton, Georgia.

“We were all very disappointed that we had to postpone the Celebration, and we did everything we could to avoid it,” said Graham. “We decided that – especially with everything going on in the world today – we were still going to share the hope of Christ in Tifton and beyond.”

The online outreach will be shown online at www.WillGrahamLive.com and on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/TiftareaCelebration and www.Facebook.com/WillGraham4. The event will air live from the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove in Asheville, North Carolina. The start time of 7 p.m. ET coincides with the original start time for the now-postponed Tiftarea Celebration.

“It’s a different venue and a different form of delivery, but the message is very much the same. Jesus is the answer to all of our fears, our hurts, and our regrets, and He wants to give us hope for today and for eternity,” said Graham. “I would encourage all of those who were planning to attend the Celebration to tune in, and to spread the word to their friends who need to hear this good news.”

Discussions continue to take place regarding the rescheduling of the Tiftarea Celebration with Will Graham. A public announcement will be made as soon as updated plans are finalized.

In the midst of the chaos this world throws at us, we are called to trust in the Lord, not ourselves. We can make predictions, and assumptions, and scenarios... but when we hand our own ideas and understanding over to the Lord, He says in His word that he will make straight our paths.
Folks, be encouraged. If there’s ever a time lost souls need to see our powerful Lord, it’s now. Love others, and show them that there is eternal hope in Jesus Christ, even when it seems the world is dying. Because when Christ lives in us, we are more alive than ever!

BGEA Postpones Ministry Events in Tifton, Ga., Asheville, N.C.

The Tiftarea Celebration with Will Graham, scheduled for March 20–22 at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center—is being postponed until a yet-to-be-determined date.

The decision was made following Saturday’s announcement from Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp declaring a public health emergency in Georgia.

“This is a sad day and difficult decision, but ultimately a call that we had to make,” said evangelist Will Graham. “I want the people and churches in and around the Tiftarea to know that I have a burden to share the hope and love of Jesus there, and I prayerfully anticipate being with you as soon as possible.”

The Celebration will be rescheduled, although the date is to be determined.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association has postponed events due to concerns over COVID-19.

03/16/2020

Please be advised that the recent notification sent out saying the events have been canceled is only so that we can post a new event for the rescheduled dates, once those are determined. Thanks for understanding!

Tiftarea Celebration with Will Graham

***Important Information***

The Tiftarea Celebration with Will Graham – which was originally planned for March 20-22 at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center – is being postponed until a yet-to-be-determined date. This difficult decision was made following the declaration below from Gov. Brian Kemp, and in communication with UGA Tifton leadership.

The Regional Prayer Gathering, which had been scheduled for Sunday night, March 15, at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center, will now be an online-only Facebook Live event at www.Facebook.com/TiftareaCelebration (March 15 at 7 p.m.). Please share with your family and friends and join us as we lift our prayers to God. We believe in the power of prayer, and need it during these uncertain days.

Will Graham and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association remain committed to proclaiming the Gospel in southern Georgia, and will work with local leadership to reschedule the Celebration in the near future.

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” –II Chronicles 7:14 ESV

Read the full text of Gov. Kemp’s declaration below:

Gov. Brian Kemp is declaring a statewide public health emergency effective Saturday, March 14.

The declaration gives the governor wide latitude to enforce or bypass state laws, seize or commandeer property, compel quarantines and evacuations and other actions to cope with the pandemic.

Following President Trump’s national emergency declaration, Kemp issued the following statement:

“Based on President Trump's emergency declaration, I will declare a public health emergency for the State of Georgia tomorrow morning. This declaration will greatly assist health and emergency management officials across Georgia by deploying all available resources for the mitigation and treatment of COVID-19."

Kemp called for a special session Monday, March 16, of the General Assembly, which just on Thursday was suspended in light of the pandemic, to ratify the emergency declaration by joint resolution.

Kemp also called on churches and "similar entities" to cancel public events and services and urged elderly residents and those with otherwise compromised immune systems or health problems to follow recommendations for preventing transmission of the disease.

"Continue to support one another, be mindful of potential exposure, use best practices to prevent infection, and pray for your fellow Americans in the weeks ahead," Kemp said in the statement.

Officials said it appears that the declaration will constitute Georgia's first ever public health emergency.

I just want to say how very sorry I am that your Celebration is postponed due to the Coronavirus. I'm working with the Mountain State Celebration in West Virginia, and I know that your hearts are broken, even as you continue to trust and obey. I pray that the Tiftarea Celebration will take place at a later date and bring many souls to the Lord. Do not think that your work has been in vain! Many lives in the Tifton area have already been changed and so many people are going to spend eternity with God because of you. Sending prayers and a whole lot of West Virginia hugs (we're a huggin' bunch!) to everyone. We love you!
48 years ago I fell on my knees in front of a TV set and got saved by the grace of God. Billy Graham was the preacher who pointed me to Christ. Soon I will be blessed to be involved in a Celebration with Will Graham the grandson of Billy Graham. I am looking forward to seeing many come to Christ.
So excited about the Tiftarea Celebration with Will Graham! The free Christian Life and Witness classes are awesome ways to learn how to share your faith. They make sharing your faith transform from what many perceive as intimidating into a simple conversation with those you love and those you meet.
