Did you see this in the paper? It was supposed to have been in a "special camp issue", but to save money, the Times hid it in a bottom corner of the regular paper. Not impressed, but none the less - we are having camps & need people to know about them!

Next Level Goat Tying

Since so many of us are out riding during this quarantine I wanted to remind the kids about a situation that that could be dangerous. Much too often I see kids leave halters hanging down while still tied to the trailer or fence. If a horse steps into that halter you could have a dangerous situation on your hands. Always tie your halter up high enough your horse can’t get a leg in it or untie it and place somewhere safe. #happypracticing

UPDATE. The United States Equestrian Federation has just mandated the necessity to cancel all USEF Shows for the next 30 days. This will affect the SYH Tri-State Western Dressage Lite I scheduled for March 27 & 28, 2020. However, the SYH All Breed Extravaganza will stay on the schedule for now. A foundered horse we done a dissection on. This sagital view shows the pedal bone demineralisation due to recurring cases of laminitis and rotation.
I have drawn lines to shoe where P3 should be so you can see how much of it has broken down and been re-absorbed!!
There’s also a “normal” hoof to show how it should look!!!

Very moving.

I must pay tribute to the wonderful CHARISMATIC who died over the weekend at Old Friends Retirement Facility in KY. The winner of the 1999 Kentucky Derby and Preakness will forever be in my memory. I cannot forget the Belmont when jockey Chris Antley pulled him up before the finish line and cradled the injured leg in his hands, probably saving his life. This is one of my most cherished paintings as I was so deeply moved by the event.

What are “wolf teeth”? Wolf teeth are the horse’s first upper premolars and may have helped horses eat things like brush and twigs in prehistoric days. These days, horses are grazers, and wolf teeth don’t serve much of a purpose except to interfere with the bit in some cases, so they are often removed in performance horses (known as a “performance float”). They are substantially smaller than the other premolars and may be missed upon examination without palpation. #DentaHealthMonth
