We've got a few seats left for NEXT SATURDAY'S WORKSHOP: POETRY OF WITNESS with GAIL WRONSKY!
21 March, Saturday - 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
BEYOND BAROQUE MINI MASTER CLASS
with GAIL WRONSKY
THE POETRY OF WITNESS
Not all poetry is love poetry. Sometimes poets bear witness to historical and political events such as wars, or major political movements like the Civil Rights movement or the women's movement. In this class we'll be looking at some poems of witness, as these are called. Also we'll be talking about the relationship between politics and art. There will be brief exercises. Students will take away from the class a deeper understanding of and familiarity with this particular kind of poetry. Please bring poems, not necessarily witness poems, for workshop.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP LEADER:
Professor Wronsky, teaches poetry, poetry writing, and women’s literature, is the author of So Quick Bright Things (What Books Press, with Spanish translations by Alicia Partnoy); Blue Shadow Behind Everything Dazzling: Poems from India; and coauthor with Molly Bendall of Bling & Fringe: The L.A. Poems. Gail’s poems and essays have also appeared in many journals, including Volt, Pool, Runes, Denver Quarterly, Colorado Review, Antioch Review, Boston Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, Santa Monica Review, Laurel Review, Crazyhorse, Burnside Review, Lafovea, and Pistola.
