Amazing Article!
can you take me back where I came from, can you take me back. ➡
vinyl is back
What is the status on Tower Records as of today (March 9th, 2019) I can't find any up to date info. I love Tower...grew up in the neighborhood and was there at least twice a week from age 7 through graduate school!
We had to drive all the way into L.A. (from Whittier) when the Beatles White album came here because they were the first to carry it.
Tower Records was THE place to go to buy your records, tapes and essentially anything you needed music wise. This may sound like a line but when I heard that they were closing the U.S. stores I felt like a major part of my life was ripped out and thrown in the corner. Nothing like it has come before it and absolutely nothing like it will ever happen again. I hope that MAYBE someone can TRY and buy the Tower name and TRY to do it justice again. Just glad I was able to go to Tower in my High School years. Classic. I remember going by this Tower on Sunset when I was on my honeymoon with my then wife and as we went by it, I remember pointing to it and telling her that was probably the most famous Tower records out there and the history I knew of it (IE Elton John buying things there, etc) I always went to the Tower stores in the Seattle area God sincerely Bless the memory of Tower Records and all those who have worked there at each and every store, the founder, Russell Solomon, and all those who purchased anything from there and became a part of the great history of a classic name/store. Just like some people say it is a badge of honor to work at Disneyland I say it is a badge of honor if you can say you worked at a Tower records. (Hey Mr. Solomon. If you ever read this and write a book, would love to do a forward to it! Or at least feel free to quote me as much as you like. No charge!)
While surfing through channels I stumbled upon this view of Tower Records in Charles Bronson's 1972 film, The Mechanic.
